I don't think they have found her. The report said they proceeded without new evidence and if they had found her, we would have heard about it. Also, if they had found her before, and just didnt tell us about it, they certainly would have told the family, which is not consistent with the parents being upset with the news today.

You have a point there regarding whether Venus has been found.

I think they said no new evidence, because the results came in with evidence previously found..... so the results are new but not the evidence.

I guess upon hearing the news 'murder charges' (if that is what they are confirmed to be in the morning) and the realization that LE does not have hope Venus would be found safe, could also cause Venus' poor mother to be so distraught she needed to be hospitalized. IF that is why she was hospitalized - and we don't know the reason why at the moment.

Just so thankful he has been arrested.

Actually, they apparently do potentially have new evidence. This was in an article posted earlier today by BeanE.

They were expecting "very important" evidence back this week or next...perhaps that came back today and thus the arrest.

Venus Stewart evidence expected to be processed

It has been about three weeks since the Michigan State Police submitted what the department calls "very important" evidence relating to the disappearance of Venus Stewart to the crime lab in Grand Rapids.

snip

Officials from the state police's White Pigeon post expect results about the "very important" evidence this week or next week, which is less than one month after they sent it in to be analyzed.

This is so sad and I really don't think there is much to be thankful or grateful for.

There are now two children without a mother or a father. They might as well be orphans.

The only thing is now the children will always be the kids whose father murdered their mother so there really are no winners.

Too bad and so sad that some people kill others just for something as stupid as control.

I dont know that the family's reaction can be charecterized as odd, jmo. I would think that being told your daughter's murderer (in the opinion of LE) has been arrested when you were hoping that she would be walking through the door some day is horrific to hear. LE all over the house is also to be expected for two reasons: the children are in hiding there IIRC and LE knew the media would head to the Mccombs for comment as soon as the news broke.

Probably they had exhausted all their leads, had no body and decided to throw the dice and go with what they had.

That would surprise me-we will see tomorrow. Umm today.

Actually, no. I highlighted the important piece of information in your quote. It implies that it was evidence submitted for analysis just short of a month ago. The only evidence that could be would either the products of the search at DS's parents house, or the evidence collected during the May 5th search warrants (if they were slackers in submitting it for analysis).

So it isnt something that is new for the case.

Well, apparently it is in this case, if they are going with what they have, since at the moment they appear to have neither evidence of homicide nor are they able to place him at the scene.

Totally and completely disagree.

We have no idea what they have. After all this time, I sincerely doubt LE would jump the gun at the possible cost of the entire case. IMO, they have all they need.

It is odd because (a) they made it very clear right from the beginning that they thought she was dead, allthough they later changed that view, and (b) the police would not have been telling them anything new today that they didn't allready know, other than that DS was arrested.

Unless they told them something else that is not common knowledge, but I would think that LE doesn't share those sorts of details with the family.

It is possible LE has told the family if she has been found and waiting until tomorrow to tell the public, to give them time to grieve before the media starts hounding them just out of respect .... just a thought

Natal, I believe that there may be something new (there is some discrepancy between the new evidence link that BeanE posted this am which has been referenced again and the latest link which you have quoted) that sparked the move.

We can disagree on that for sure. ;)

However, stating you think your child is dead and LE confirming it is a world of difference. It is still going to suck the wind out of you. At the minimum.

Natal, I think you are on the right track. I'm now hearing locally that there is NO body. But that DS is arrested for murder.

The child who is the subject of the sexual abuse charges has had a forensic examination that has corroberated Venus' story to at least some degree. That was stated in the hearing as it has been reported to us. By the media.

Having supervised phone visitation and supervised physical visitation is a HUGE difference. Beyond the difference in those types of visitation, DS was denied access to his children by this family court judge. Period. Until there can be a trial.

That is substantial in the world of family court. IMO.

That is unlikely, the original complaint was made by Venus months ago and it would have been investigated back then. The current trial was clearly a tactic by child protective services to do anything to avoid or delay DS getting the children. They only filed the charge after he petitioned for custody. If Venus had not gone missing there would have been no abuse charges and the status quo would have continued. Obviously this stuff would have come up (or should have) in the original custody hearing and whatever it was couldn't have been all that serious otherwise DS wouldn't have been allowed contact at all.

Hi Natal,

Could you please clarify what you mean when you say
,"Obviously this stuff would have come up (or should have) in the original custody hearing and whatever it was couldn't have been all that serious otherwise DS wouldn't have been allowed contact at all"

I took it to mean in your opinion you felt the evidence wasn't there to support sex abuse charges. However, it can be taken to mean you are saying child sex abuse charges are not all that serious. Would you please clarify for us?

Thank you,
Tricia

Authorities would not say on what charge Stewart was being held.

But a source close to the investigation said Stewart was being charged with murder and kidnapping.

Here's the NEW BOMBSHELL INFO

The source close to the investigation said police believe they found the alleged impostor and the man is cooperating with authorities. The charges against Douglas Stewart would be based, at least in part, on statements of the witness, the source said.

CENTREVILLE — Douglas Stewart, who police have described as a person of interest in the case of his missing estranged wife, Venus, was taken into custody Tuesday evening, police said.

Authorities would not say on what charge Stewart was being held.

But a source close to the investigation said Stewart was being charged with murder and kidnapping.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough said a press conference was scheduled for 10 a.m. today. He declined to comment further late Tuesday.

Michigan State Police brought Stewart to the St. Joseph County Jail in Centreville at about 7 p.m., said Sgt. Jim Hasbrouck of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.
