I thought I would make a list of the reasons SG gave for murdering his wife from his own words in his confession. While this is not directly related to this case, I think it demonstrates how easy it is for things to spiral out of control. By all accounts, the Grants were also a happily married couple, both good parents to their children and so on. The list:

1. They argued over her work schedule-Tara informed him she had to do her job (note she did make more money than her husband)

2. During this argument she turned to walk away from him and he grabbed her, she slapped him.

3. He struck her back knocking her to the floor. She hit her head and got angry and told him that was it, she was taking the kids and this was the end of it and she was going to call the police because he had hit her.

“Because she fell she started cussing at me telling me she would take the kids and house and I was going to jail and I would become the loser I always was. I then grabbed her neck to make her stop talking; instead I found myself squeezing and choking her with my right hand.”

4. He began choking her. She scratched his hand.

5. At this point SG decides that he cannot stop because he will go to jail so he proceeds to choke her to death after he places something over her face.

One other note - he was having an affair with the au pair. The only logical thing about this is SG decides to kill her because he is afraid he will end up in jail once he had gone a bit too far. Otherwise this is a terribly senseless murder IMO. For some reason I suspect that Michelle Youngs murder will turn out to be as senseless as this one.

Raisincharlie,

your summary could also describe michelle and jay. it has all of the same elements. jay even probably covered michelle's head with a pillow after he killed her.

after reading posts about michelle and jay fighting in front of people, it made me realize that this must be what the investigators were talking about when they siad that there was a history of fighting.

does anyone know whether any of their friends ever witnessed a physical
fight between michelle and jay?

imo

I think you are too kind Saint. I think the last thing the killer did as he walked away from her body, thinking she was dead, was to pick up a pillow off the bed, turn and toss it at her head like a frisbe, saying There you go b**tch, you asked for it! He had tried to annialate her and as a finishing touch blocked her out with a pillow to cover her identity.

it could have happened that way too, flicka.

it was an unspeakably cruel murder, especially that it caused that little boy to suffocate in darkness inside michelle's womb.

why?
why did this happen?

I am sure you are right, raisin. Totally senseless in both cases.

Well, Sami...I, for one, am glad you peeked back in

Interesting question for Jake.

Guess it helps us understand why Mr. McI acted as he did the day of the murder. No love lost for any LE. IMO, of course.

Jake,

I'm still looking for the answers to my questions - Who was the beneficiary for her life insurance policy(ies) and have the funds been disbursed? If so, who received them?

Or, has the claim process even been started for the insurance proceeds?

And just for your information, when the funds are finally disbursed interest will be paid as mandated by state law, if it is applicable. You mentioned a question about this on CTV.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I thought I knew the answer about the insurance. But after talking with my wife, I'm not sure of anything anymore. Let me ask some others about it and get back to you when I can.

What's with my board? I can get only one post at a time. Do I need to reset something? Does anyone know? And I see I'm locked out at CTV. Maybe I was a bad boy again?

Your first mistake, imo, is going there at all. :)

Here you go for whatever it was Jake :slap: LOLOLOL

Carolyn had a run-in with the law as I remember, and her husband must have felt LE was unduly hard on her for some reason. Sami, glad you're back for a 'sneak attack' too! YaYa Scandi

I vaguely remember the case and remember it had something to do with embezzlement. So far as I know, Mr. McIntire was not involved directly. He's never expressed to me that he has hard feelings toward LE.

He did state his distrust for LE though right off the bat after Michelle was killed. I always thought that an unusual response for that situation his stepson was in.

SueY,

Well the Grant case pretty much dissolves any argument about someone not being able to murder because no one thought he could or would. Nice people, nice family, not so nice murder. By his own words it came down to his sense of self preservation. He murdered his wife with the children in the house, he played the sympathy card on the au pair and played his lawyer, family, and friends for fools. But he was a nice guy before the truth came out...

Since he was obviously well acquainted with embezzelment , was he part of the driving force behind trying to get Meredith arrested for the same or just coincidence?

Coincidence is my guess. The only one who had anything definite about Meredith and embezzlement was rpd, if I remember correctly. And he backed out of that later. I think even mentioning it got some people banned on ctv.

You might be right. Maybe this mistrust of LE is part of the genes of mountain folk. I feel the same way.

Leave RPD out of it - he was not the motivating factor. I'm afraid you are incorrect about your quess, actually, I know you are. Per friends

Thank you. How long was he divorced from her before marrying JY's mother? I'm sure that's been covered here, but I've missed that detail.
TIA.
