Michigan here, too ... we had a dusting of snow when we got up this morning. All day we have had off-and-on “blizzards” —- driving, blinding snow that lasts only a short time. And the trees are beginning to bud out this week — imagine that.

The Tigers are in town today and it's so hot they are keeping the lid on Skydome/Rogers Centre closed!

It’s going to be really, really hot today

Humidity will make it feel closer to 45 C (113 F) on Saturday. It’s going to get increasingly hot until about 5 p.m., when temperatures will peak. There is no escaping the heat overnight, when temperatures will cool down to 24 C (75 F) , but still feel more like 32 C (89 F).
...
Due to the temperatures, the Rogers Centre dome will also be closed during the Blue Jays game against the Detroit Tigers this afternoon.

Metro Detroit winter outlook 2018-2019: Here's what to expect

All indications point toward less harsh winter

DETROIT - It is the time of year when everybody starts looking ahead, and not necessarily with optimism.

Daylight is shrinking as nights get longer, and temps are dropping. Before we know it, the pitter patter of little snowflakes will arrive.

So, the question you’re probably asking is: “How will this winter be?” ...

Metro Detroit weather forecast: Friday won't be fun

DETROIT - Friday won't be fun, but it's not the end of the world either.

If this system ran through in January, we may not give it a second thought. But it's the first test of our winter driving skills, and we all know how this movie ends...

Central IL saw reports of 30 tornadoes or funnel clouds with at least 12 incidences of touchdowns. Several small towns across several IL suffered damages, no loss of life reported thank goodness but injuries were suffered and some folks were trapped in their homes as rescuers worked to dig them out overnight. Here are some links

Destructive Tornado Strikes Taylorville, Illinois; 30 People Hurt, Over 100 Buildings Damaged | The Weather Channel

15 tornadoes cause injuries, damage homes in rare December strikes

Dozens injured as 22 tornadoes reported in central Illinois

Hardest hit appears to be Taylorville IL, located in Christian County. My husband was there last night helping board up businesses that lost their storefronts, he got home around midnight and was back up at 5am headed back for more. We are used to odd weather in IL but this was pretty rare and unusual.

Lots of videos of the many twisters have been uploaded to social media but this one right here pretty much sums up Illinoisans attitude toward such things. It's duck hunting season.

CAUTION: LANGUAGE ALERT

Wow, tlcya! Nothing makes it feel as bad as seeing the actual damage. Is this your area? Is your home OK?
Shocking to see how extensive the damage. Sure hope the people with injuries will recover completely.

I am in Central IL so they were popping all around us but my town received no damage. Taylorville is about 30 minutes away. Lots of friends live there. Everyone is pulling together and we were so blessed no loss of life. No damage estimates yet but preliminary reports:

But local emergency response officials said 506 residential buildings in the area were damaged, with 34 destroyed, 66 sustaining major damage and 406 damaged but habitable. It was unclear how many area residents were displaced. In addition, one church sustained damage, and two businesses were damaged but could be habitable once they were repaired. Three businesses have major damage.

Taylorville begins long road to tornado cleanup

Metro Detroit weather: Snow Thursday, bigger snow coming this weekend, next week

Coating to an inch possible Thursday

As most Michigan winters go, this has been an exceptionally mild and dry one. DH used the snow blower once, and snow removal vehicles (private contractors) have only been in the neighborhood for one 2" snowfall. Snow removal companies that charge by the push aren't making squat this season, and clients who paid for the season in advance aren't getting their money's worth. We've been known to have major snowfalls as late as April in southeastern lower Michigan, but we've got a lot of catching up to do for this to be any sort of "normal" winter with regard to snowfall.
