My girlfriend's mom was in a nursing home and died this morning. She had dementia. Started to run a low grade fever yesterday, so they moved her to a more isolated area, and they were going to do a Covid-19 test. The staff called my friend at 5:45 this morning and said her mom died 30 minutes prior. Her temp was 102, no other symptoms. They didn't test her because they said they are only allowed to do x number of tests per day, or use only x number of test kits per day. They asked my friend if she could ask the funeral home if they can test her mother. We're both RNs and just can't figure it out. Why test now? There won't be an autopsy, mom had other health issues. I guess I'm just wondering out loud. I keep hearing about all the test kits available, so why would a nursing home be limited in how many tests they are allowed to perform each day?
