Fox just corrected their story - it now says the body is believed to be buried......
BUT...the sheriff said that 'She is dead.' That would be highly irresponsible of him to make this statement if they haven't found her. Why wouldn't he say, "She is believed to be dead."

I feel so angry. Her family called her a compulsive liar this week.
The sheriff is a DUNCE. He ranted and raved at the press instead of giving answers.
The sheriff and military didn't protect her.
She was in trouble, she bought a bus ticket but the timeline hinted at suggests that she was killed soon after the bus ticket purchase, before she had a chance to leave.
She had a military roommate. He didn't protect her and I think he's either missing now too, or isn't cooperating.

The way they know she's dead is because there is physical evidence that she is dead. He didn't say " We think she's dead." He said " A witness has provided evidence".
This is heartbreaking. OMG.

God this makes me so mad... :furious: I am highly pi$$ed off right now at her step-monster how dare her say those things about her? Heartless b**ch!! Could you imagine Sharon Rocha saying anything bad about Laci when she was missing?... I am really fuming over here i'm sorry..

What did she say? I saw a short snippet of an interview and she really didn't say much, but it was a short snippet. The body hasn't been recovered yet, the sheriff says the witness gave this information this morning. The suspect has left the area. Has hired three attorneys, supposedly the corporal that sexually assaulted her, and she was due to testify in the trial.

Forgive me, I'm new to this case.

When was she allegedly raped by this man? And who is the father of her baby?

TIA!

Don't know...apparently the military isn't saying, but working theory is that the pregnancy was the result of the rape.

By Anahad O'Connor
Updated, Friday, 12:25 p.m. Sheriff Ed Brown of Onslow County, North Carolina, announced at a news conference just now that Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach was dead, with her body found buried. He also named a superior officer as a suspect in the investigation.

I don't think any of them know which way is up!

Sheriff has physical evidence from a witness that she is deceased. We don't know what the evidence is, but it is physical evidence that she's dead. Not that they think she's dead, but that she is indeed dead.
I am so upset!! Another woman murdered in NC who was pregnant. I think this makes number 5 that we know about.

I wonder if it was something from a roommate of the suspect. Perhaps something that was found this morning after Cpl Lauren had taken off?

No her roomate was the one that came back from Calif. and talked. He was ordered to go to Calif.I think he was the one that told the LE that Maria and the suspect had reunited.

Who knows anything about the baby? What if the baby isn't with her? Chances are she was killed while still pregnant, but I don't understand how they know anything in this case.

The sheriff was just talking with a Fox reporter and I swear he keeps mixing up the names between the suspect and the supposed roomie that has evidence....

FOX just re-interviewed Sheriff Brown, trying to clarify what he said a PC.Asked him if he had spoken to Cesar (the suspect in the rape and murder). Sheriff must have mis-understood 'cause he spent the next 40 seconds saying how cooperative he was and not suspicious acting at all, and he knew her best because he lived with her! Hello! Sheriff, I believe you are describing the roomate who came back from California to aid in investigation, not the suspect whm you were asked about! The interviewer interrupted him for breaking news, but did not seem to catch the mistake.

Oh, good question! The baby could have been delivered before he killed the mom...could that be the physical evidence to which the Sheriff refers? Is that sheriff sharp enough to keep a secret like that without even a hint during the presser?

This sheriff is giving my hometown a bad name. He seems like one of those bumbling sheriff's on TV such as Smokey and the Bandit or The Dukes of Hazzard. SHEESH !

This whole case just reeks ! I can't find any breaking news of her body's recovery or anything. Anybody have a link ?

Are the roommate and the officer the same person? That shows you how confused I am...so they have the body...my guess is there was some kind of photographic evidence or maybe the baby...her mother must be in hysterics after all of the unkind remarks she made...

I read (not sure which one) an on-line ariticle that stated that the baby was
assumed dead also. That there was no indication that the baby was still alive. I think it was the Fayetteville NC Local papaer.

This is quit a mess indeed. Well I haven't heard anything about about the baby taximom except that Maria was 8 months pregnant. The sherrif said at the news conference that he knew nothing about the baby, like who the father is or whether she was having a girl or boy. I think it unbelievable also that this suspect was able to get away. The sherrif kept saying well he had a lawyer and wouldn't talk to us, didn't they ever hear of tailing a suspect?
