MN - Beau Shroyer, Wife of Detroit Lakes missionary killed in Angola arrested in connection to his death

  • #281
I literally think this entire thing is bull.
I don’t believe for a minute that Jackie had relations with a 20 year old native.
I don’t believe there was an offer of $50k for an assassination- which would equate to millions of dollars in a country where a decent monthly salary is $250- that’s ridiculous.
I believe these guys stole $5000 from Jackie and family - one was supposed to be their own security guard. I believe they killed the husband and tried to frame her after they were caught.
Lastly I think hell would freeze over before Jackie would want to stay in Angola with her kids and without her husband. They repeatedly complained of safety issues/ danger.
This is far fetched and ridonculous. Who believes this crud? Whoever made it up must hate Jackie.
All IMHO
Lots of great points here! So, so curious, especially since somehow I’m both a gullible and a cynical person!

I mean, haven’t you ever seen 90-Day Fiance? :)

Seriously though, why do you (or the others who also) not believe this could be possible?

I don’t. I think it went exactly as they said. I think Jackie is a grade A nut job and did everything they are accusing her of.
Possibly, the tip of the iceberg..... one does not suddenly go off the rails so publicly, so radically, at 44... she's been playing some double game for a very long time. Or, she is totally extremely low IQ, and bowled over by the sophistication and charm of suave Angolan chaps..... Portugal language is very musical and mesmerising.. maybe these men were kind to her, in a lifetime desert of unkindness... kindness tends to send some women right off the map,

Perhaps an education in Minnesota just does not prepare one for social interaction anywhere else.... it seemed to me , from watching their little vid clips that they were almost completely oblivious to any awareness of their own lack of direction and place..... that they lived , and Beau , probably, died, in a bubble of delusion.

That is a mystery to me, also.. .. It is not only possible, it could perhaps been easily foreseen.

Minnesotan here. I take exeption to the comment re: education in Minnesota. Maybe in Detroit Lakes, but certainly not in the entire state, especially not the Twin Cities. And, we have the Rochester Clinic, #1 in the world, which brings many internationals. Cargill operates in 67 countries - definitely employing and interacting with international persons. Personally, I have spent extended time in 13 countries. We are not a hick place.

Your exception is noted. Re Education in Minnesota.;)

I'm not 100% sure, but I tend to agree with you.

The official news agency of Angola has an article showing pics of 2 of the 3 suspects, the interior of Beau's car where he was killed and the murder weapon.

In this article, LE says that Jackie went with Elias (the guard and potential love interest) to the spot of the murder three days before the murder. LE says it was to find an appropriate spot.
So I'm guessing that someone saw them there 3 days before the murder.
That's pretty damning.

Corruption is rife in these countries and lives can come cheap... It sounds like an inside job and then framing Jackie.
What would be the benefit of killing Beau and framing Jackie?
What was the motive for killing Beau?

I'm not thinking that anyone is framing, or trying to frame, Jackie. As far as I can see, LE has just followed where the clues have led. To me, there is no motive for framing Jackie, and possibly two for murdering Beau. One, for money, two, to get his missus, who equals woman plus money. No plans for the kids seemingly? I think this aspect might be what gets Jackie to talk.

I wonder if it is possible that one of the main indicators that the murder and robbery was orchestrated by someone close to the victims is that the ambush didn’t take place until Beau’s vehicle arrived even though there was another car in the area that was both broken down and had passengers in it? Perhaps it led LE to question and grow suspicious as to why the assailants hadn’t robbed and murdered the guard, whose back was turned to the surroundings as they looked under the hood, or the first vehicle’s other passengers in the same swift manner in which they tragically assaulted Beau?

I wonder too if LE possibly also wondered why the assailants chose that area for the crime scene considering it was noted to be remote? Crime was motivated by robbery why choose that spot and what were the chances that potential vehicles and pedestrians would even pass though the spot in the first place? Perhaps to LE the set up of the scene seemed like too much of a coincidence that they had to at least consider the crime was planned beforehand with Beau in particular being the target?

LE may have also asked why were the wife and guard seemingly spared or not as brutally attacked as Beau was when their survival posed risks to the perps should they later serve as witnesses to the attack who could alert authorities, thereby hindering their escape time, and being able to identify them, thus increasing the likelihood of their arrests? How was the wife able to get some or any distance at all from the crime scene itself when one would think the assailants want to keep their eyes on her, thus grab her and the others and keep them close to where the horrific ambush occurred to ensure that they could not escape and alert authorities and that they could be robbed of any potential valuables as well.

The money found among the perps upon arrest too was also a big clue too that ambush and robbery were used as a coverup for a planned hit

And the question was probably asked why did perps with criminal records involving previous robberies go to such extremes this time? With their history they had to know the difference in repercussions between the two crimes and the brutally of the crime causing the LE to be more aggressive in their investigation. Not to mention that by killing a missionary from outside Angola they risked bringing more attention to themselves, Beau, his murder and the investigation from local, national and international media. The more the public is aware the more likely the call for an arrest could grow.

Why escalate to murder when it is very possible Beau and any others would have complied? If not, They could have used Beau or the wife or the guard as hostages to force them to do so. They could have not only robbed all three individuals of their valuables and communication devices but also forced them to fix the supposed broken down car and stolen both vehicles before getting away and buying themselves more time by stranding their victims in a remote area.

'All three are Angolan men in their early 20s — one was a guard at the Shroyer residence — and all have criminal records of armed robbery and kidnapping, according to the Angolan federal Criminal Investigation Service.'

Underlined by me... How was this guard, Bernadino Elias , employed by this mission , with his criminal record ?... all have criminal records, for , of all things, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

Yet he gets a job, as a guard, in a mission household.

Something mighty odd there.

I don't understand how the pastor's comments that "Beau wasn't a perfect man" track with the new information. Perhaps the pastor didn't have many details at the time, or the statement was simply meant at face value-nobody is perfect besides the lord above. Still an unusual statement to make about a recently-murdered parishioner..

Indeed. Perhaps Jackie dropped a few hints to that effect when they were back home on furlough.

I think another angle would be ... it is not really socially acceptable for a grown woman to be smoozing up to and sitting closely with young African boys., either in private or public... I am sorry if this sounds harsh and prudish, but it is how a very great deal of Southern African communities run their lives.. In Central Africa, like the Congo, and Uganda, Somalia, etc, you'd be thrashed publicly.. Northern and Western Africa ,well.... you'd not be seeing the light of day for quite some time.. much is expected of women , behavior-wise, and there are no ifs or buts about it.
That whole photo is nuts, IMO. Those snacks are probably expensive! It might be cheaper and more appropriate to buy them a decent dinner. Photo op, I think.
