Watching cross of Mercil now, Defense and Mercil are talking about choke holds - there was that astounding photo from inside the vehicle where a member here (sorry, forgot who) posted a screenshot of what appeared to be DC’s hands around his neck in the vehicle, just wanted to bring this up since they are talking about this type of hold- I realize the discussion on stand is pertaining to when GF was already prone, but just wanted to mention it bc Mercil said he never saw DC perform this type of choke when asked by Nelson.

Yeah, that photo was a big  for me when I first saw it. I am trying to keep an open mind.

Disregard dbm error on my part, I should’ve waited for his answer, he did not train MMA. Sorry DBM

I don't understand how one unconscious, handcuffed man is deemed to be more threatening than the 'hostile' crowd, then... Three officers restraining Floyd while only one focused on the bystanders is what seems unreasonable to me. And that was the officers' decision. That's contradictory to what Defense is presenting as their evidence. JMO

I can see how the defense is trying to overcome this, whether they can get 1 or more jurors to agree, I don't know.

Regardless of where I think his knee was or wasn't, I still don't know how they expain that.

The crowd? the history of the area? the concern if he was revived he would be dangerous? I don't know if that is enough to excuse not starting CPR.

I'm listening.. trying not to tune out

Even this guy agrees that it's subjective and can be based on the officers experiences. So we already know what Nelson's questions will be, and I fully expect he will be questioned if he knows the area and the history.

And now he went and said "ex-officers"... side bar. ETA: they are back... i thought Nelson objected to the ex officer thing haha

obviously not the sidebars, but I do wish we could hear the objections and grounds more clearly.

We need the ME to testify, until they do then we will just have this constant back and forth about use of force and training and neck vs shoulder...

Making note for further research, re: “both sides of the neck needing to be pressed in order to render one unconscious”. (Nelson says this on cross to Mercil, to which Mercil agrees.)

So how then does any individual die from a blocked carotid artery on only side of their body? ;)

Ooo so this is slightly new unless I've not concentrated on it before.

Chauvin asked for the "Hobble" restraint. Witness is testifying that the other officers present had to make a determination on whether further restraint was needed. Those officers chose not to further restrain GF. Indicates they believe GF was no longer resisting.

ETA: finished for the day. Perhaps they noted more yawning amongst the jury and thought best to restart tomorrow...

Wow that was an abrupt ending to court. What happened before? I was folding laundry. Lol

Ok, I had a kid talking so I missed that. Interesting if so. The State made it seem like Chauvin decided not to use the Hobble because it would then require a supervisor to be called.

and we are abruptly done for the day??? hmmmm

Another clarification I wanted to mention is that Mercil, when talking about hobble, paraphrasing here, mentioned legs being bent. Iirc, DP said he thinks they don’t advise/use bent legs anymore when applying the Hobble. Loose paraphrase from my memory, but wanted to note this ftr.

@PaulBlume_FOX9

Judge Cahill indicated there may be a legal issue that needs to be addressed with the testimony of the state's use of force expert. Cahill sent the jury home.
