From Cathy Russon tweet...."Final note on today's motions hearing, Judge Cahill just told the court, he plans to have closing arguments a week from today, on Monday, April 19th. That will give jury next weekend to get affairs in order, pack bags over weekend & then begin their deliberations after closings."

I guess I sort of missed this...are we saying that Defense will rest their case by this Friday? I always thought it was about one month for testimony and then deliberations. Anyone else hear this?

The doc said Floyd an "ex
GF was very very used to Fentanyl and I think his reaction may be quite different than the average user.

not sure why but his testimony seems off to me.

I think his testimony is a mixed bag. I like most of his testimony but wonder how he could testify GF had a "an exceptionally strong heart"----

Apparently a heart attack no longer has symptoms including: chest pain, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, sweating, etc.
A heart attack will almost always cause the above symptoms. I think he referenced a "silent" heart attack, which he said would be caused by neuropathy, in other words, the nerves can be damaged by diabetes (the most likely reason, but not the only one). But that is very rare. I'm not understanding how you heard that heart attacks are asymptomatic. Can you please clarify? Thanks!

This doc also testified about tolerance and mentioned that GF had one ER visit where he said he took 8 percocets over a 2 hour period, they watched him for a few hours and discharged him.

From other testimony, my understanding is that tolerance can be built up over time, but if someone is clean for a period of time, it takes time to build up that tolerance again.

Will be interesting if we get some time frames on some of the medical info.

This witness is not going to let this attorney jack him around- I kind of like that!

we are back... think we didn't go live right away.

I agree; I worked in cardiology, and IMO, this doctor is absolutely correct. If GF had had even a "mild" heart attack, there would definitely be scar tissue in the heart muscle.

Risk factors are not the same thing as having cardiac problems. Many people have risk factors but no actual “damage” to the heart. If there was damage to the heart, there would have been evidence.

From my understanding of medicine, diabetics most often are a category of people who can have what is termed " a silent heart attack"--

I thought he said only 10 percent develop lung disease.
I'm sorry, I can't remember the percentage he stated. My grandfather died of cancer (started in the pancreas)...he only weighed 68 pounds when he died. On autopsy, the only organs that were cancer free were his lungs. Now, I'm certainly not saying that smoking isn't a major cause of lung cancer!

absolutely he did NOT have a heart attack...however I think he had some conditions as documented by autopsy that could be argued contributed to but not caused the death.
I agree.

yes remember the one that said most smokers never have heart issues etc.
I dont remember anyone saying that. I do remember one saying that 10% of smokers have lung damage.

Pool reporter in the courtroom notes that jurors didn’t seem bored or distracted and took notes. Also noted that there was tension when Nelson objected to the last round of questions. #DerekChauvinTrial

Pool reporter also notes that a woman came into the courtroom and sat in the seat designated for a Derek Chauvin family member or friend just before testimony started. #DerekChauvinTrial

#DerekChauvinTrial - Pool reporter notes re jury reaction during this morning's testimony by Rich: When he said did not die from primary heart event or drug overdose "Entire jury is writing furiously". All jurors take notes when Rich says death was preventable.

Nelson: what is a safe dose of meth?
Dr.: Prescribed? (said with complete straight face)
Nelson: Illicit
Dr.: I would never consider any illicit drug off the street that is not prescribed by a physician to be safe

On that note, time for my lunch break.

I am doubtful that Nelson has the capability and knowledge to successfully cross this witness. But man, I can imagine some Cardiologists and others doing an extreme wt* at his testimony. It's alarming to me.
I thought he was much easier to understand than Dr.Baker. I liked that he turned towards and addressed the jury most of the time.

I don't think the defense has said or implied he had a heart attack. One of the tweets did say something about the defense witness and "silent heart attack". I think they have mentioned arrhythmia though.

We will see with the questioning I guess.
I was replying to a specific poster who asked about heart attack testimony- I'm sorry that I didn't get that person mentioned in the quote! (I'm really tired).a Sincere apologies for any misunderstandings!

My doctors say my heart's healthy too and I need surgery to replace my mitral valve. (They just mean there's no damage to the heart muscle itself and what is wrong can be repaired.)

I could be totally wrong but wouldn't surprised if this cardiologist doesn't have a similar take on what constitutes a 'healthy' heart. Especially a transplant doc who sees the worst of the worst of potential heart damage.

I’m semi-behind, but IMO, a honest and trustworthy witness will also show the same response when questioned by the defense.

Yes, whichever it was, I was surprised by that statement.

My mom has a slightly enlarged heart, elevated cholesterol levels and hypertension. Her cardiologist has described her in multiple occasions as having an extremely strong heart. Maybe it has something to do with that specific person’s ability to develop collateral vessels in the heart? Not sure.
