10/22/20 Update: Thao, Lane & Kueng are charged with aiding & abetting second-degree murder. Cahill has yet to rule on a possible change of venue, and whether the four trials will be joined or held separately.

12/22/20: Robert Paule, defense attorney for Thao, filed a motion with the court Friday asking that the trial, now slated to begin March 8, be moved to July 5 instead (representing the 4 months the State has disregarded this Court's discovery deadline). Paule also asked Judge Peter Cahill to extend the date for defense attorneys to disclose their expert witnesses & to order the state to pay defense attorneys fees and costs associated with the requested four-month delay.
12/14/20: Kueng, Lane & Thao filed: Media coalition's opposition to State's Motion for reconsideration or Order allowing audio & video coverage of trial. Declaration of Grace Wong & Suki Dardarian. Defendant's reply to State' Motion to reconsider cameras in the courtroom (Not Lane). 12/18/20 Update: Judge Peter Cahill has set the next hearing in George Floyd murder case. Oral arguments will be heard on several subjects including defense motions to delay the March 8th trial. Next hearing set for January 11th at 3pm. It will be virtual, via Zoom. 12/19/20: Judge Peter Cahill is sticking with his historic decision to livestream the trial of 4 former Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of Floyd due to immense global interest in the case & limited courthouse space, according to an order filed Friday, 12/19/20. Judge Cahill dismissed concerns by state prosecutors, who argued last month that recording audio & visuals of the trial would violate court rules & scare away potential witnesses. He is granting more extensive video coverage than allowed in court rules, he is permitted to modify the rules "in any case to prevent manifest injustice."
12/31/20 Update: The State of Minnesota is asking for the trial in George Floyd’s death to be pushed from March to June 7, in order to better prepare for COVID-19. The state argues that, even with COVID-19 protocols put into place, there could be serious disruptions to the trial given the scope. Chauvin’s attorney Erik Nelson requested for the trial to be delayed, arguing the state’s presentation of the evidence has been unorganized & delayed. A new request from the attorney of DChauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd, asks the court for more time to prepare for next year’s trial. The attorney for Thao, who is also charged in the case, made a similar argument earlier. On Thursday, Lane’s attorney Earl Gray objected to the state’s request to delay the trial.
1/7/21 Update: Hearing for 1/11/21 was rescheduled to 1/7/21.
