What's wrong with putting everything they own including money into her name? Honest, judge, we aren't fraudsters! Serious question: Why is this guy out on bail?

Yah, gotta agree with you. Since when did any man ever get a divorce and give his wife everything from cash, to houses, to pensions without a peep? Either that, or he was abusive to her, and he is buying her silence.

That would go over well at trial.."How many times a week did your husband abuse you?". Any testimony like that would sink his ship. Of course, this is speculation.

Friday, Dec. 11th:
*Omnibus Hearing (re Tax evasion) (@ 9:30am CT) - MN – *Derek Michael Chauvin (44) - charged (7/22/20) with 6 counts of aiding & abetting taxes-false or fraudulent returns-filed with commissioner & 3 counts aiding & abetting taxes-failure to file return, report, document. Washington County, State of Minnesota 7/22/20 court info reference post #42 here:
MN - George Floyd, 46, unarmed, killed in police custody, Minneapolis, 25 May 2020 *arrests* #3

9/8/20 Update: Chauvin told Judge Sheridan Hawley he & his attorney, Eric Nelson, have had “minimal” time to discuss the tax case. The judge scheduled the next hearing for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 30. Chauvin is being represented by the same defense attorney in his tax and his murder defense case. His wife is not in custody in connection to the tax case.
10/26/20 Update: Continued by defense request-granted. Omnibus hearing on 12/11/20.

*Divorce - A divorce settlement that would have given most of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s assets to his wife was rejected by a judge who cited the possibility of fraud. Washington County District Judge Juanita Freeman wrote in her October ruling that judges can deny an uncontested agreement reached between a couple, such as with the Chauvins, if “the transfer features ‘badges of fraud.’ “The Court has a duty to ensure that marriage dissolution agreements are fair & equitable,” Freeman wrote. “One badge of fraud is a party’s transfer of ‘substantially all’ of his or her assets.” “This is just speculation, but it’s possible that the [agreement] was intentionally drafted to get assets out of Chauvin’s name in anticipation of a civil judgment against him from the estate of George Floyd,” said divorce attorney Marc Beyer. “That may be what the court is getting at when it references ‘badges of fraud.’ ” Chauvin does not have a divorce lawyer. However, Freeman wrote that under the agreement, Kellie Chauvin would have received all the equity in their two homes, all the money in their bank & investment accounts & all the money from Derek Chauvin’s pension & retirement accounts. Funds from two of Chauvin’s accounts that were earned before the couple’s 2010 marriage would have been exempt. Chauvin was a Minneapolis officer from 2001 until his firing this year. The case has been set for a pretrial hearing on March 26 & for trial on April 26.

Motion filed to delay officers' trial in George Floyd's death | kare11.com

Dec. 11, 2020

MINNEAPOLIS — The attorney for one of the former Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd is asking for the trial to be delayed until July, after accusing state prosecutors of violating a court order to share discovery material with the defense.

Robert Paule, defense attorney for former officer Tou Thao, filed a motion with the court Friday asking that the trial, now slated to begin March 8, be moved to July 5 instead. Paule also asked Judge Peter Cahill to extend the date for defense attorneys to disclose their expert witnesses, and to order the state to pay defense attorneys fees and costs associated with the requested four-month delay.
[.....]
"The State has held onto exculpatory evidence they had knowledge about for months without disclosing it to the Defense," Paule argues in his motion. "To date, the State has untimely disclosed evidence eight times amounting to over 15,000 pages of evidence."
[.....]
So far, the state has not issued a comment on Paule's motion.

Attorney for Derek Chauvin requests George Floyd trial be moved back

Dec. 14, 2020

The attorney for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has requested the trial be moved back, recent documents filed in court say.

The trial for the death of George Floyd is scheduled to begin on March 8. Last week, former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao's attorney, Robert Paule, asked a judge to move the trial to July, arguing prosecutors disclosed expert witnesses months after the court had ordered.

However, in the recent filing concerning Chauvin, there was no suggested date or reason for the delay.

Seeing how they released all the surveillance and body cam footage. They havent released the footage of Floyd making making the purchase inside the store. IMO this was all setup. Floyd was setup. His friend and ex gf treatment made me think this. What raises my suspicion is why was Floyd handcuffed before they had any information from the store as to the fake bills? The manger just pointed to the van all 3 were in but had no other information. Second when Lane was talking to the friend their was a 20 dollar bill laying right on the ground in front of him??? At no point did he think this 20 might be related??? Ok so now they got Floyd cuffed sitting on the ground. The friend gave Lane his ID and ex gave her name. At NO point did they run their names. They immediately escort Floyd to the cop car even though ALL the evidence points to the friend.cause he told Lane he tried purchasing a laptop and hes got a 20 dollar bill sitting in front of his face. So Floyd is killed and NOW they decide to find out what happened. Another redflag is they questioned the manager who wasnt even in the store. It was an 18 yr old who cashed out Floyd and called 911. Assuming Floyd even attempted to make a purchase. Because at this point the guy whose giving the answers wasnt even present. But he does say both men made a purchase but only Floyd was successful. The friend got caught and seeing how they were together I guess decided to check the 20 that Floyd passed. Again the cop never asked to talk with the clerk who was actually present. Thats pretty odd dont you think? Ok so Lane has the info and hes about arrest the friend. Right? Nope he gives back his id which was never checked because the guy had outstanding warrants in Houston for gun poss assault and drug poss. Tells them their free to go. He even has the pack of newport Floyd allegedly purchased. So Floyd is dead and this guy walks away unscathed. Only to be arrested in Houston a week later for outstanding warrants he had...Also take this into consideration the cop who kills him knew him and had problems with him. Floyd was Targeted and assassinated. Also before tbe cops were even called 2 guys from the store went talked to the friend and asked for the cigarettes back when they refused they called the cops. Knowing the cops were on the way they still stayed their??? Their was still 2 counterfeit bills in the car and Floyd had fentanyl on him. Their is WAY more to this than just the murder. This was an Assassination.

Judge upholds decision to livestream trial of officers in George Floyd killing - StarTribune.com

Dec. 18, 2020

A Hennepin County judge is sticking with his historic decision to livestream the trial of four former Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd due to immense global interest in the case and limited courthouse space, according to an order filed Friday.

Judge Peter Cahill dismissed concerns by state prosecutors, who argued last month that recording audio and visuals of the trial would violate court rules and scare away potential witnesses. Attorney General Keith Ellison's office, which is leading the prosecution, asked that Cahill rescind his previous ruling or consider narrowing the scope of outside access.

Cahill declined to modify his original ruling issued Nov. 4, writing that although he is granting more extensive video coverage than allowed in court rules, he is permitted to modify the rules "in any case to prevent manifest injustice."
[.....]
Cahill again invoked the size of the courtrooms and "unique and unprecedented situation" brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the Hennepin County Government Center's largest courtrooms has been remodeled to adhere to social distancing requirements. As a result, the public gallery has been removed, and only one seat in the courtroom remains that is not used by a trial participant. If the trial is televised, a technician will occupy the chair.

State Asks For Trial In George Floyd's Death To Push To June Due To COVID

Dec. 31, 2020

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The State of Minnesota is asking for the trial in George Floyd’s death to be pushed from March to June 7, in order to better prepare for COVID-19.

The state argues that, even with COVID-19 protocols put into place, there could be serious disruptions to the trial given the scope. Four now-fired Minneapolis officers — Derek Chauvin, Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane — are all facing charges in Floyd’s May death in south Minneapolis.

The state’s legal team offered a doctor affadavit, and added that they were ready to start on March 8 as originally planned, but requested the delay to June for safety reasons.

Earlier in the month, Chauvin’s attorney Erik Nelson requested for the trial to be delayed, arguing the state’s presentation of the evidence has been unorganized and delayed.

A new request from the attorney of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd, asks the court for more time to prepare for next year’s trial. The attorney for Thao, who is also charged in the case, made a similar argument earlier.

On Thursday, Lane’s attorney Earl Gray objected to the state’s request to delay the trial.

March 8 has been the date set for the trial to start before Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill for the four now-fired police officers charged in the death of Floyd on May 25 while he was forcibly detained on a south Minneapolis street corner.

Derek Chauvin, 44, Tou Thao, 34, J. Alexander Kueng, 26, and Thomas Lane, 37, are scheduled to be tried together. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, and the other three former officers are charged with aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.

However, attorneys filed a motion to move the trial start date from March 8 to to June 7, arguing that putting it off “appropriately balances the need to protect public health with the need to ensure that this case is resolved expeditiously,” as reported by the StarTribune.
Prosecutors Seek 3-Month Delay in Trial Over George Floyd's Death, Citing COVID-19

@PaulBlume_FOX9

Judge Peter Cahill says he will take George Floyd trial delay arguments "under advisement." That means no ruling from the courts today. So for now, trial is scheduled to begin w/ jury selection March 8th. We'll await a ruling from Cahill in days ahead.
Arguments now focused on how quickly defense attorneys are getting evidence/discovery from state prosecutors. They are clearly frustrated by delays & the organization of large, voluminous files including critical reports on cause of death & more.
