Well that was one cold courtroom yesterday....mother's comments are odd to say the least and not even getting the date correct of the murder was indicative of her being completely out of touch...of course DC was cold but what really struck me was Judge Cahill. I have watched sentencings many times and in a case of this magnitude with community impact he sure could have been more eloquent and still kept it brief. At least he did thank those that came in to speak. He just eludes the feeling I want this to be over. I guess he has his reasons but my opinion of him went down as we moved thru the process and to pretty much tell the public (many watching) to go read a lengthy legal document was not impressive. That said...I am sure he spent hours crafting the document and that the legal thinking is sound. He does not need to account to us but those are the feelings I am left with. The sentence is about exactly as I expected..

Can someone enlighten me and recall... what in the timeline happened on that date that she did mention?

Any clue as to what Chauvin was referring to here?

“I want to give my condolences to the Floyd family,” Chauvin said, adding that he was not able to “give a full, formal statement” because of “some additional legal matters at hand.” He ended on a cryptic note.

I interpret it as his being forced to say something, when he would have preferred to say nothing.

How right, you were.....Vandals painted a hate group's website on the statue, which was unveiled on Juneteenth.

Vandalism of new Brooklyn George Floyd statue may be hate crime, officials say

There is always going to be hate. And, there will always be media to give platform to hate over love and good in the world. It will continue to divide people regardless of race, religion, etc. etc.

I hope the Floyd family is able to find some peace knowing George's death isn't in vain. George is no longer in pain and time will reveal if real change will occur.

Actually - it has GUILTY - in front of all that....

Maybe they can remove the guilty part.

I find the sentence fair. What is bothering me is the Floyd familys complaints about how long the trial took. All of this, all the experts, complete in under a year. We know time wise, under a year is almost unheard of.

Here on Websleuths we know it often takes years for a case to come to trial and be tried (Travis Alexander/Jodi Arias for example), but the average person doesn’t have our experience following cases. So I can see why the family think trials take place within a few months and that a nine months to a year is excessive. Attorneys should explain how the system works, but they probably don’t, so the Floyd family complaints are understandable to me in that context IMO.

Amazing transformation in one year!!

Prison food is not so good-- often very salty and not a lot of fresh vegetables. He is outside less and probably is not really working out. He has also been segregated from other prisoners so I am sure it is jarring to be in a courtroom with lots of people.

He deserves every bit of fear and inability to live a life that allows him to be as healthy as possible. I am not one who ever wants people to suffer, including the DP, but in this case he was so indifferent to the human he slowly killed over nine minutes that I have no sympathy or empathy for him and his situation.

He aged at least 10 years! As I wrote before it is shocking. I even feel pity!

Any statement he made in court could (and, most likely, would) be used in future proceedings against him. He is also appealing his convictions besides facing the federal charges.

It is anyone's guess as to what he thinks will come to light that would be of interest and give this family peace of mind. He continues to play a psychological mind game in MHO.

NYTimes (‘I want to give my condolences to the Floyd family,’ Derek Chauvin says at his sentencing hearing.):
“Due to some additional legal matters at hand, I’m not able to give a full formal statement at this time,” said Mr. Chauvin, the former police officer who was convicted in April of murdering Mr. Floyd on a Minneapolis street corner. “But, very briefly, I want to give my condolences to the Floyd family.”

He added, somewhat cryptically: “There’s going to be some other information in the future that would be of interest, and I hope things will give you some peace of mind.”

What do you think he meant by “some peace in the future”

Perhaps a desire and intention to be gone, as George is.
Having been sentenced to 22½ years (15 years behind bars) with potentially more years to be stacked on, should there be a federal sentence, things might be looking pretty bleak to him.

Listening to DC's mother's statement in court (on behalf of his family) it is obvious that she is purposely referring to the date Nov. 25/2020 as being significant for a reason, six months before GF was killed.

" Not only did Derek's life change forever, so did mine and our family's."

Her statement was followed by DC's statement to GF's family "There's going to be some other information in the future that would be of interest. And I hope things will give you some, some peace of mind. Thank you," Chauvin said.

I am only guessing that DC's cryptic statement to the GF's family is tied into what his mother noted that changed his life (and the family's) on Nov. 25. Something that will be apparently disclosed at a later time.
I can't imagine what happened on Nov.25 and if that would explain why DC's mother thinks her son is innocent, or maybe has a good excuse for his actions?

It is disturbing that she wouldn't even mention, let alone validate the pain that George's family is experiencing, as she spoke of her own pain and loss. With the whole world listening to the first person to speak on DC's behalf, I found that glaring ommission very intentional on her part. We might hear more about Nov. 25 later. jmo

You have that wrong - GF was killed on May 25, 2020...
