MN- Minneapolis, mass shooting at church, multiple fatalities, possible explosive device found. Aug 2025

I am so tired of this. Same story. More innocent lives lost. More politics. More mental health talk. I know the name of the shooter but nearly nothing about the victims. Why? Why are our kids not safe in schools? Or churches? Or malls? Or playing outside? Why is it that every time some selfish elohssa decides to shoot a bunch of kids they get all the attention?

Right? So much focus on the shooter and respecting the shooter's wishes. Screw the shooter, honestly. An evil child murdering anti-Semite. Children have been murdered, they are the victims and the ones who should be talked about.

I can understand why the victims haven't been publicly named, since it's up to the families if and when they release that information, but I agree that the imbalance in attention is unfortunate to say the least. I think there needs to be a serious conversation about whether mass shooters should be publicly named at all, especially given the fact that this shooter was clearly inspired by previous shooters. Although the downside of course would be that not confirming who committed the crime creates the opportunity for rumours and misinformation

"Ode to Death"??

"The chilling note came from Westman's time as a pupil at St. Thomas Academy,
a Catholic all-boys school in Mendota Heights, Minneapolis,
where students are referred to as cadets,
wear uniform and are trained in military skills.

It was one of several schools that Westman attended during a seemingly turbulent childhood
where they went to one school for just three months,
changed gender to female,
and saw their parents divorce.

"The Minneapolis School Shooter's rifle had "Thank God for Breivik" and "Brenton 4ever" carved into it, along with the name of Pittsburgh Synagogue Murderer Robert Bowers, and OKC bomber Timothy McVeigh."

The killer really was a despicable human being. A poisonous person who refused to deal with their own problems and chose to take out their misplaced anger on innocent children. It doesn’t get much worse than that. Never should have had access to those weapons.

Prayers for the children and the poor victims. I hope everyone has help in healing from this tragedy, including all parents who fear sending their children to school every day. Let’s vow to finally put an end to these crimes for good. It can be done.

SBM. It sounds like a death cult. Worshipping mass murderers and aspiring to get on the list. That is their life achievement. This mindset is a societal disease.

This guy was just all over the place with the mental illness. I am trying to put reason to his actions where likely no reason is to be found. Citing Nazi rhetoric seems to go against everything that this guy built his life around. None of it makes sense.

I agree with the premise that most of these school shooter types are of the "going down in a blaze of glory" mindset. It seems that its is no longer a simple as one wishing to commit suicide but a desire to go out of this world making sure that everyone knows their name. There seems to be so many issues at work here. I don't know how society combats all of these.

Annunciation Catholic School shooter Robin Westman had been planning an act of violence for a long time, a former co-worker has claimed.
Westman, 23, had been working at a cannabis dispensary in Eagan, about 17 miles from Minneapolis, until August 16 this year.
The shooter voluntarily left her role at Rise, with a colleague alleging the decision came after a series of disciplinary action.
The co-worker, speaking to the Star Tribune on the condition of anonymity, said Westman had been disciplined for tardiness and skipping work.

Not to minimize the two innocent lives (littlest angels) that were lost in this atrocity but I do think that in many ways this act by the sick evil perp WAS AN EPIC FAIL.
It is honestly a MIRACLE that more lives weren’t lost - especially with so many injured/ shot that will survive. It’s pretty miraculous!
With the amount of fire power, the carefully planned executions, the seething hatred- THIS PERP IS NOTHING MORE THAN THE BIGGEST LOSER.

After shooting through the windows on a murderous rampage the nasty mixed-up perp entered the back of the church (which they laughably boarded up with boards reading NO ESCAPE) thinking they would take out scores of children only to see the church already empty. Brave teachers had already led the hundreds of students to safety.
PLAN FAILED.

I think it’s a testament to the faith of this community, the power of prayer and what some may call some very good luck or kismet that there was a decidedly low body count.

This narcissistic sicko with their GRANDIOSE ideas thought they would be the ultimate school shooter but THEY FAILED.

[mod snip]

The narcissist laughably publicly wrote to their siblings that THEY MAY HAVE TO CHANGE THEIR NAMES after the glorious killing spree. LOL. They intended to be infamous and are simply a CREEPY FAILURE.

In the end this is a story about the resilience of these children and their community.
It’s a story of little and big heros- of friends shielding and protecting others,
of community members running to help and hold hands and reassuring others.
It’s a story of a lot of miracles and much goodness triumphing over a failed evil plan.

All IMHO

Im new here, been reading a looong time but just joined. English is also not my first language, as amatter of fact its not even my second.
Anyway I feel the need to just ask if what you write is something we should apply when we are talking about just one person? For me if you write them, their or they I assume that we are talking about a group of people, more than one individual. This makes me really confused. So how is it? Shouldnt I use him or her when it is clearly aabout one single person that we know is a male or a female?
You are correct. The evil mentally ill murderer was a biological male. It doesn’t make sense. Some people think pronouns are important in this case. If it helps, just refer to this person as the evil murderer.

I’m not sure the murderer was sure about which gender to go by.

End of the day, this young man was seriously evil, regardless. Having fantasies about murdering children is just purely demonic.

From the above article (BBM):

Westman’s chilling writings revealed his violent fantasies about killing children, including wanting to be the “scary horrible monster standing over those powerless kids.” He also glorifies the Sandy Hook massacre, in which 20 schoolchildren were killed.

This person was just an evil waste of space.

They/them is not only used as a plural. Its also used when gender is unknown.

'I think a person just ran past'
'oh where were they going?'.

'The bus driver dropped me off late'
'Why were they late?'

"Hundreds honor victims

of Minneapolis Catholic school shooting.

Just hours after Robin Westman opened fire through the windows of Annunciation Catholic School,
hundreds crowded inside a nearby school's gym,
clutching one another and wiping away tears during a vigil alongside Gov. Tim Walz and clergy members.

Speaking to a silent crowd crammed shoulder-to-shoulder Wednesday night,
while hundreds more waited outside,
Archbishop Bernard Hebda
described the students trying to shield their classmates as the gunfire erupted.

'In the midst of that there was courage,
there was bravery,
but most especially there was love',

he said at the Academy of Holy Angels,
about 2 miles away from the site of the massacre."

evidently, this murderer had his own apartment... did he have a job, was he a student. how was he able to purchase all the weapons and ammo as i doubt they were cheap. did he have some sort of financial assistance paying for his lifestyle... whatever that was.

jmo
One of the articles someone linked earlier said they worked at a dispensary until earlier this month

Where is the information coming from that he had his own apartment?

An earlier article upthread said a neighbour (of the parents) said three people lived in the house, parents and a son. I assumed it was Robin.

The perpetrator's letter to family indicates that they had siblings. Perhaps some still live at home.
