There is a long and storied history in this country of citizens standing up for injustices, putting themselves in harm's way, suffering jail, injury, and death, in order to make this country and its laws better.
I remember being HORRIFIED as a teen, seeing images and film from the Civil Rights period, with law enforcement officers with vicious dogs and fire hoses, attacking people trying to end the laws that kept black people as less than citizens with full rights.

I would hope that anyone looking at those images and films from prior human rights movements would agree that the people standing up and saying, "No, I will not go to the back of the bus" and "No, I will not move from the diner counter" and "No, I will not attend a lesser school" were right and just, and that the law enforcement and government entities trying to keep people "in their place" were wrong. Same for women's rights. Same for LGBTQ+ rights. War, Climate justice, Disability rights, Education rights, children's labor laws, etc, etc, etc. "No, I will not hide my love" "No, I will not give up my right to vote" "No, I do not believe this war is just." "No, I do not believe fossil fuels should be the only form of energy."

I believe in my heart, and hope that the same will be true for immigrants' rights. That the people putting their lives on the line in order to bring attention to the injustice of the current war on immigrants will be talked about in the same way as those who fought for civil rights.

And no, I don't believe that violent criminal undocumented immigrants should have a free pass to stay in this country. I just believe that the deliberate terrifying raids and assaults on communities and other actions are not necessary. This is a smart county with incredible resources. Militarizing ICE and having them act like they are taking over a country they've just invaded is not necessary. Track down the criminals, use the surveillance tools we have, and quietly pick them off, one by one, and send them where they need to go. Stephen Miller's quota of deportations is not correlated with the number of violent criminals. Unless he equates any undocumented immigrant as a violent criminal......

Have you watched the videos or are you taking talking points off X?
Because the videos clearly show another vehicle easily driving around her

Moo.... Some people are unhappy with the administration . So they are protesting just like in Iran at the moment. Some people want change. It will not be pretty it never is. Civil war.

I remember the outrage when students were gunned down at Kent State University by the Ohio National Guard.

Americans become rightfully outraged by the murder of their protesting citizens by law enforcement.

imo

Hey Everyone.
I'm going to close this thread for 15-30 minutes to let everyone cool down.
Please do not personalize. You can disagree, but you can't get sarcastic.
Please stay on topic. The topic is the shooting. Nothing else. Not immigration. Not the president. The topic is the shooting.
Ok. Please take a break. Grab your favorite beverage. And relax for a bit. The thread will reopen shortly.

Ok. Re-opening thread.
Please remember our number 1 rule "Don't Be A Jerk."
Stay on topic, please. The topic is the shooting and if it was justified.
No derogatory comments about the President.
Thank you.
Tricia

That’s an emotional distortion of what happened from my perspective. This isn’t about being fine with killing, dancing or personality. She was interfering in a federal operation (like it or not, they are doing their jobs), parked her car perpendicular in the darn road, she refused commands, she backed up, again she’s being told to get out of the car, she backs up, then accelerates, a four thousand pound moving vehicle coming at the agent, her vehicle then made contact with the agent. In that split second it became a perceived lethal threat assessment. Multiple shots are fired because officers are trained to shoot until the threat stops. There is no rule that one shot is enough. His aim was deliberate and targeted.

It’s incredibly sad that Ms. Good* has been killed. It is. I’m also relieved this agent was not injured. He was doing his job.

Si now what. This could be a civil case, that I strongly believe goes no where. Perhaps criminal charges, again that I believe goes no where.

Tennessee vs Gardner is the standard that likely rules in favor of the agent.

All my opinion

Edited: *name spelling correction

I think that if we're going to reference his training as justification for shooting, then we also need to reference his training to point out that he did not follow the training by standing in front of the car and creating his own misfortune.

MOO.

Minnesota you aren’t allowed to have your vehicle in that position on the road - it’s considered blocking the road.

Federal officers have no jurisdiction over enforcement of state laws

A million things of all beautiful to you. I saw all as you did, younger at the time, a kid, but I knew so horribly wrong. It's in your character, sense of good and bad, humanely right and humanely so wrong. End of story. It's lacking, non existent but with 'other things' in some people taking it's place.

Also, I’ve been wondering. If this exact scenario happened and all of the officers were just regular law enforcement, like state troopers or Minneapolis city police and it went down EXACTLY like it did, with one officer yanking on her door handle, multiple officers giving conflicting demands, an officer filming on his cell phone instead of a body cam, an officer walking in front of her vehicle, and the officer shooting her point blank 3 times…would the people who say the agent was justified for shooting her, still think this? Or is it ok because it’s ICE and therefore they can do whatever they want with no consequences. All MOO.
No, because they would probably be fired, and the police would have to do a press conference apologizing to Renee's family, and the city of Minneapolis.

That might be true. I was talking about this incident and I clearly see her vehicle blocking the road. Even if vehicles were able to get past hers it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.

The publicly-accused ICE person said "Call 911" as he was walking away from Renee's crashed vehicle (as per the bystander video showing that, in my previous link).

Maybe he should have said "Call 911" much sooner.

imo

I still don't understand why the agents stopped after they had already driven past her. There was no reason for them to engage her, their priority should have been those dangerous undocumented felons at the local high school. They stopped their mission, which purportedly protects citizens from dangerous people, to exchange insults with protesters.

Maybe he should have called 911 himself. He had his cell phone in his hand.

Do you have a link that they stopped their mission to engage her? I must have missed that part.

No link, but are you implying that they were just driving around with no purpose?

Do you have a link to what their "mission" was? TIA.
