I don't imagine city leaders and LE want these people laying around Ferg-nation in sleeping bags holding flashlights while singing kill the cops.

I think that's a pretty sound plan, but I go back and forth on whether the announcement should be made during the day while kids are at school. I kind of hope it will, because I believe the children would be a lot safer there than out on the streets. Unfortunately, I don't see how they could give a head's up to businesses without alerting the protestors/rioters to something being afoot. I honestly think businesses would be safer keeping their windows boarded up and adding extra reinforcements to doors until after everything dies down. I know it looks bad, but I don't know if any commercial insurance plans even offer a rider for 'terrorism,' which I believe is how damage from rioting/civil unrest is classified. Does anyone know about that???

I so agree with you about making the announcement when children are in school. They will be much safer.

What smacks of ignorance imo is those who believe that literally burning down the city is ok.... cause the law of averages includes their homes going down as well.

Someone soon needs to take control back from the protesters.

When Wilson failed to appear in court for Brooks' preliminary hearing Monday, Brooks' attorney, Nick Zotos, speculated that Wilson's "lawyers are basically advising him, 'do not appear.' There’s no up side for him to come into court and be under oath."

With police saying Brooks has confessed to selling drugs, it's not clear what effect Wilson's absence will have on the case. According to the Post-Dispatch, Brooks had posted on Facebook that he anticipated the charge would be dropped.

And if Wilson isn't indicted when the Brown grand jury returns its findings -- possibly in November -- Zotos speculated that Wilson might once again be willing to show up and testify about the February 2013 arrest that earned him an award.

"He's open about his traffic ticket problem..... Arrested 40 times? That's more than a problem. SMH what happens when there's another accident? It's probably very safe to assume he doesn't have insurance...and what's so suspicious about his arrest?

My brother went through a similar experience of loosing his license for unpaid tickets, and had it revoked until he could pay off the fines. It took years but he finally did it.

There's so much wrong with his comments. None of them want to take any responsibility for the position they find themselves in.

And I guess we could all claim to be "journalists" since we're all actively "reporting" about the events in Ferguson. :giggle:

No license means no registration, no insurance, no inspection sticker and only being stopped approximately 2 or 3 times a year is amazing. I would think the stops would have been much higher than that.

Here was the response from the Ferguson city attorney Stephanie Karr: "This is an active investigation by law enforcement. No investigative records, such as ballistic records, are subject to disclosure in accordance with Section 610.100 R.S.Mo. The investigative records will be closed records until such time as dictated by Section 610.100 et seq."

I haven't seen a summary.

A few injured LE off the top of my head:

Officer shot in arm
Officer shot at on I-70
Officer struck right under the eye with rock
Officer struck in arm with rock
Officer's ankle broken in two places from brick?
Officer hit in face with bottle (last night)

I'm sure there's more and don't know the agency of each. Other officers have been assaulted per protestor charges, but extent of injuries doesn't seem to be newsworthy?

What killed me about "Officer" Johnson last night was his explanation of why he was there on the scene: He'd been at home watching and did not like what he was seeing (LE slowly moving in on the protestors who refused to leave the street and continued protesting...sometimes loudly...past curfew...in violation of law), so he came down and in essence spit in the face of those officers doing their jobs by implying that they were the bad guys there and giving the protestors permission to continue violating laws.

I have zero respect for Johnson. Zip. He threw every one of those LEOs under the bus last night and gave people permission to just ignore anything LE says. So when Ferguson burns, it's on Johnson's head. MOO IMO EIEIO

Because it is a ton more than I have ever paid. If I bought a hamburger from 100 different restaurants for $5 and then was charged $50 for a similar burger from a new place, I think I would still be right to say that $50 for a burger seems exorbitant even though I don't know their actual costs. Maybe they hired Emeril to cook that burger and that explains why the price is so exorbitant, but it doesn't change the fact that it is still exorbitant.

Do you mind sharing what you paid, and in general terms what kind of records you were requesting? I still don't have any information on what a typical charge might be for sunshine requests.

I think being in the middle of the road is part of their protest because that is where MB and DJ were when they were stopped by Officer Wilson. However, using a minor child at 1am in the morning when they have school the next day (home schooled or not) standing in the middle of a main road where some cars are flying by is wrong. Given the fact that a gun was fired and the children were not removed but were kept there as protection against the police is way more than wrong. jmo

Any mandated reporter who witnessed children in such a situation is obligated to turn it in to the local DFS/DHS/DCF (whatever the local entity is called). They are under a code of ethics to do so.

Maybe the fees are being assessed so that every idiot saying he's a reporter can't get his/her hands on the information and upload it to the net? If they do that, it would have to be 100% for everyone, including CNN, ABC, etc.

I hope not. Documents & records subject to the sunshine act are considered public record, and anyone who requests & receives such documents should be allowed to post it all over the net if they choose to.

Also, the purpose of the fees is to cover the costs associated with providing the records, not to discourage people from requesting public records.
