The reporter that I just saw on CNN was not AA/ And he was not really arrested. He was detained and then released, with no charges. Originally he was told he was 'trespassing' in the McDonalds so that seems like MCD's did want the people to leave. They were likely afraid of what a rioting crowd might do if they came that way.

the other reporter was african american, they were detained, both slammed into things (oh well it happens, sorry) then booked and jailed, only to be released when the police chief got calls from their employers, the police chief then said something like "sounds like the arresting officers didnt know what they were doing". if the police chief doesnt feel the need to defend his own officers work, and in fact calls it shoddy, then i dont know why anyone else would be quick to defend it...

I'll have to wait for a replay, I changed the station. I heard a totally different interview earlier.:moo:

I didnt see the AA journalist. Only this one.

There are two sides to every story. Actually, 3 or more. lol I think the truth here is somewhere in the middle.

we are all getting the story in snippets and disjointed bits and pieces. I think there are elements of truth from all various sides. jmo

ETA: Personally, I would not want to be in a country, where a rioting crowd could make the police back down, by pointing weapons at them. That could end in a national nightmare.

And that is EXACTLY what happened during the Los Angeles riots. The police LEFT the area completely which allowed the mobs to do as they pleased for days.

Innocent people were beaten to death in the streets by mobs, store owners had to arm themselves with rifles to protect their businesses, supposedly even the Hispanic Gangs had to lock down and patrol/police their own neighborhoods to keep looters/rioters out.

And folks wonder WHY many American's want firearms instead of just dialing 911? THIS IS WHY!!! In fact Missouri is one of the most heavily civilian armed states in the U.S., needless to say I don't see the rioting going beyond certain areas, the civilian population in most areas would likely be far more dangerous to looters than even the most overzealous police.

katy, to expand on my short snappy answer :P no i dont think the police should ignore thrown bottles, but im not sure the response they used was what should happen either. the claim of molotov cocktails will need to be proven to me, multiple reporters on scene claim it was just a bottle and that they certainly didnt see any molotov cocktails and video footage from many sources do not show any such thing, there is a report that it was a molotov cocktail that was thrown atop a car wash nearby, while again that is serious and cant be ignored im not sure it means you immediately open up like they did and advance on a crowd that is disconnected from that situation.

surely there is more information to come out, maybe my opinion will change...

I just heard it was 2 reporters 1 from Washington Post, 1 from Huffington. They were arrested for trespassing. How do you trepass into a public business, order food, pay for it, while eating get arrested for trepassing? Released after 45 mins. Bogus charges:moo:

i would argue that just those snippets should be very concerning to most people, apparently (not saying you, not anyone specific) a lot of people dont seem to have any problem with it.

The story of the WPs arrest, the "accidental" slamming I his head/body, etc, is familiar stuff to anyone who has ever lived in an area with corrupt and racist LE. Having seen it in my younger years too many times to count it absolutely has the ring of truth to it.

I'm just surprised they didn't hit him with a charge for assaulting an officer or resisting arrest after they roughed them up. That's usually what they do. At least If you're a poor minority who isn't a reporter for a major news outlet.

He slammed my head against the glass”: Ferguson police arrest HuffPost, WaPo reporters

Video released by the Washington Post shows the confrontation that led to the arrests

Police in Ferguson, Missouri, arrested the Huffington Post’s Ryan J. Reilly and the Washington Post’s Wesley Lowery on Wednesday, during protests over the death of unarmed teen Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by police in the St. Louis suburb last week. Reilly and Lowery had been working from a local McDonalds when officers in riot gear entered the building and ordered it immediately vacated.

At this point, this is reminding me of news reporters during a somewhat mild hurricane standing out in it, shouting into the camera and getting soaking wet while curious onlookers walk by. Zooming in over and over at one traffic light swinging in the strong wind. Report the news, don't BE the news, as some journalism great said (whose name I don't remember).

More violence. I cannot imagine what will happen if there are no charges or if it goes to trial and the verdict.

If I was one of the decent law abding people living up there I would be scared to death.

What I worry about more is after the FBI and DOJ completes their investigation what if they find the officer had a right to protect himself and shoot MB?

There is just so much we don't know now about what really transpired that day leading up to the shooting. We have witnesses who are on Michael's side but to get to the entire truth all witnesses must be interviewed and every piece of available evidence taken into consideration.

So many times when the FBI and DOJ does their investigations the officer is found to not be at fault due to the circumstances surrounding the shooting. So what if the angry protestors, especially the violent ones, don't get what they want? What will happen then to the city and its people in it?

Or does the FBI and the DOJ feel such tremendous pressure in this case they will charge the officer with something to appease the angry crowds?

Now I am not stating for one second that I believe the officer was in the right when shooting Michael. I am just contemplating the 'what if' things don't go as the protestors think they should?

IMO

I truly believe the media nowadays incites the unrest even further. As I watched this unfold online last night the reporter was absolutely giddy and thrilled to be a part of this. Reporters know how stupid some can get if you put a camera in their face. Imo, the media in this case has made it even worse. They seem to goad the protestors on. That is not journalism but making the story about themselves and trying to create news.

Imo, not one reporter there really cares about Michael Brown's death. They are there using his death because they know that is where the hot topic is at the moment and they want to make their own 'breaking news.'

i know right? those reporters just sitting in a mcdonalds typing, waiting for batteries to recharge, just daring the police to come in and get them!

so the officer involved's name has been released online, photo and address to be released soon if no public statement from LE.

im not a fan of this just for the record.

This is getting way out of hand.

So in your opinion, should cops ignore it when people throw bottles at them? How about molotov cocktails?

And looting? Should the cops let that go?

ETA: Personally, I would not want to be in a country, where a rioting crowd could make the police back down, by pointing weapons at them. That could end in a national nightmare.

They are doing exactly what they were trained to do. It is astonishing to me that some expect the police to do nothing. That is what happened in the LA riots and the police didn't try to contain the protesters and we saw how awful that turned out.

So lets see, the police knows there has already been burning and lootings and destruction of property. And iirc the police themselves have had their vehicles damaged by thugs pretending to protest Michael's death so with the police already knowing those facts they are to do nothing and stand down? That is totally absurd. The ones that have made this happen are the ones who used Michael's death for their own agendas. The ones who loot and burn property are not there for Michael. They just use this as an opportunity to commit crimes. So if the peaceful protestors should be mad with anyone it should be the looters and arsonists.........not the police who is trying to restore peace. Its those thugs and criminals who have made it far worse. LE are not mind readers. They don't know what each protestor has in their possession or whether they are armed or whether they have brought Molotov cocktails with them. It is obvious that a lot of the protestors are goading the police on. I think they have shown amazing restraint. Shouting to them to use their 'big boy' voices and carrying signs 'No Justice-No PEACE." Whether anyone likes to admit it that slogan is a threat!!!!! Its a message of 'you do as we say or you will pay.'

I do think every peaceful person has a right to protest but they cant be that naïve either. They have already seen the violence some have caused so if they are among them then they shouldn't be shocked if they get caught up in the mess that the violent protestors do.

I wouldn't want to be out in these crowds..not alone and certainly not with small children. It is already a city plagued with violent crimes and gunshot sounds seem to be the norm. I would be so afraid some nut would be high on drugs or alcohol and would start shooting the place up. I believe I read when Michael's father got out of his vehicle one day at the memorial that has been setup for Michael there was a gunshot heard close by at that time. This isn't Mayberry RFD. IMO

Not only that, never knew civil rights has an expiration time. Ferugson PD is blatantly violating the civil rights of anyone who dare peacefully protest. Said they can protest during day but not after 9PM...there is no expiration time on civil rights our constitution is being violated left and right.
