Maybe he was just impulsive, ignorant as to the consequences and emboldened?

True, it could be that too.

The issue of tickets for minor offenses existed long before the shooting. It is just one of several reasons why the relationship between the police and the community was poor.

We ALL get them. We ALL need to obey the laws and STOP getting tickets for ANY offenses. I don't hate the police when I get a ticket, I'm responsible enough to kick my own butt.

Maybe Jane Doe should use the other options for traffic tickets that wouldn't require a babysitter. Like pay online or by mail. Those were options available the last time I got a traffic ticket.

I would even go a step further and suggest not breaking any traffic laws.

Some people do not have an option of paying by mail. No checks. No cc.

I guess I am unlucky. I have gotten speeding tickets a couple of times. One time I was doing it on purpose as I was in a strange city and wanted to get home before dark.

The other times I did not realize I was going as fast as I was. But I live in a very hilly city so the car speeds up if you don't keep close tabs on your speed.

I have received parking tickets for parking in areas that I did not realize were issues.

I have no small children. I can only imagine the stress people with no money, small children, crappy car, childcare issues, transportation issues, and on and on and on of life that is not easy.

Article worth revisiting: "Why Did the MB Shooting Happen Here" [Canfield Green area]

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/...cle_678334ce-500a-5689-8658-f548207cf253.html

"It’s a cluster of densely populated complexes that stand apart from the predominantly single-family streets of Ferguson. On a map, the area sticks out like an appendage, one that was added to Ferguson by annexation. Many of the children who live there aren’t even part of the Ferguson-Florissant school system. Adding to that isolation, police have blocked off nearly all access roads to the apartments with concrete barriers, fences and gate."

Get out of my mind, you're freaking me out! :loveyou:

Anyone other than me shocked that the family attorneys are STILL talking to the media? It would seem (hope) they wouldn't interfere w/ the GJ review and just let the facts come out. If you absolutely believe in your side, then BEG for the facts to come out in official fashion, not in tabloid fodder.

I'd like to hear from someone familiar with gang initiations in St. Louis, because the store robbery fits the bill in my uninformed opinion. That's where the presence of Unknown Guy (UG, entering/leaving with MB and watching the robbery carefully), comes in as designated gang "verifier" that MB followed through satisfactorily.

This reminded me: I think the Grand Jury will likely also have access to Michael's juvenile record and school records too. Those could flesh out whether there was gang involvement, a tendency toward violence, and potentially reasons why he'd attack a police officer. Those records could contain more than just convictions.

"The St. Louis Public Schools are considering implementing a notification system. When police become aware of gang activity or problems off school grounds, the information will be faxed to the school to alert them of any potential problems. Further, a team of juvenile probation officers and social workers are now housed on high school campuses to serve as a resource source for students at risk for gang activity."

"The St. Louis Family Court has established another approach that involves establishing better communications within law enforcement agencies. The agencies share reports of juvenile gang membership with each other and provide parental notification as to a child’s gang affiliation (Harmon, C. 1998). Other intervention programs include the Drug Education for Youth (DEFY) camp and mentoring program, the Weed & Seed Jobs Program and the National Guard "Show Me Challenge" (Harmon, C. 1998)."

Does marijuana make someone violent?

If something does not make sense to me, there is a reason.

Why someone would go up against LE without a weapon makes no sense.

Isn't suicide by cop more common when someone has done a violent crime and I don't mean taking some cigars from a store.

Very strange to put oneself in front of a loaded gun

Dr. Baden talked about the marijuana:

Baden weighed in on a toxicology report that allegedly shows marijuana in Brown’s system at the time of the shooting.

“Does the fact that they found marijuana, does that exclude the fact that there might be other drugs in his system or even that the marijuana was laced with anything?” Van Susteren asked the doctor. “Is that the final analysis or could there be more information to come in terms of the toxicology?”

After admitting that he had not seen the toxicology report in question yet, Baden went on to speculate about what the presence of marijuana in Brown’s system could mean.

“Very important with marijuana is the levels of the different drugs that are present in marijuana to have an opinion as to whether or not he might have been affected by the marijuana,” he said, “so that he may have been acting in a crazy way and may have done things to the police officer that normally he would not have done.”

IMO, there are many cases where suicide does not make sense. I had a friend who committed suicide when she was just 18 years old. She was extremely intelligent, sweet, young, beautiful, had great parents, she had the whole world and her whole life in front of her and then out of the blue, she committed suicide. Two days before that I had a long conversation with her, yes, she had some troubles, her parents put a lot of pressure on her to finish her high school, she was just weeks away from graduating, she could had done it easily by just attending school but she saw "no sense in her life"! After I talked to her, she sounded encouraged, had hope, seemed to be doing fine. Then she quietly planned her suicide when her friends were gone over the weekend and she was alone in the apartment, she had researched poison which would be 1000% fatal! There was a closed casket. She wrote two long letters, one to her parents apologizing for what she is going to do and how much it will hurt them. And a second letter to her closest friends. This is now many years ago and till this day, it gives me the chills, it still fills me with great sadness, I still get tears in my eyes. It was so senseless! In her case, she never indicated to anyone what she had on her mind, that she was about taking her own life.

In MB's case: I found his FB message chilling which he wrote just days before he died:

'If I leave this earth today, at least you'll know I care about others more than I cared about my damn self.'

It also takes personal responsibility, and motivation to resolve the situation, which apparently a lot of people continue to lack.

I'm rather tired of reading these "poor me" articles that tell the stories of people who make one bad/ unlawful decision after another, after another, and then complain that it's so unfair that they are being held accountable by "the system" for their poor decisions. This is an endemic problem, that is generational for a lot of families, not just the urban poor, IMO. Really tough to fix that. Maybe impossible, IDK.

Klood-N, can I just say a big THANK YOU for all of your time and attention collating and organizing all the data in your posts?! I am so glad you decided to join WS and post!

Your posts are "one stop shopping" for a lot of issues, and well documented with links and quotes. I think they would be great to have in the media thread. Would you mind? With full credit to you, of course!

These ones in particular:

That is interesting. I read somewhere (on MB's FB or his Twitter?) that MB wrote (paraphrasing): "I'm not even good enough to be a gang member."

I was under the impression that he felt rejected. I believe his girlfriend also wanted to move away and go to another city to go to collage there. IMO, all those things could have played a role on his state of mind which led up to the incident of August 9. JMO.

Thanks. I've been trying to sort out what really happened, so I started keeping lists of articles and making notes, but there wasn't anyplace to put them until now since the social media around what happened to Michael is so volatile. So, pardon any over exuberance. But yes, you can use them.

PS I should add I've been reading here for awhile before getting signed up, and your posts contain a lot of great information too. Thank you.

I don't hate the police either, I hate the tickets! That's why I'm very cautious and alert to NOT get a ticket in the first place. IMO, it's a complete waste of money: I have to pay for something and I don't get anything back in return! ;)

Interesting. I was thinking DJ's eviction could've played into it too. There was an article that said Michael mainly just hung out with his grandma, and one friend said something like Michael had told him he was his only real friend. I wonder if he just found out that DJ, his new friend, would be moving away that morning when he went over, so he was sad, frustrated, maybe angry at the world, at life, at authority??

I messaged a mod about how to best put them in media-- copy/ paste, versus links to your original posts, etc.

And thank you again! :)

The questions "Why cigarillos? And why so many?" hasn't been answered to my satisfaction. It's possible the family member/friend who claimed MB always wanted to have his own business was right. One friend fondly remembered MB selling candy bars at school in 6th grade. Maybe MB had graduated up to selling blunts, with DJ supplying the mj and MB providing the wrappers. Maybe it was only the quantity being stolen by MB that last day that caused the clerk not to look the other way as usual.

Those were actually cigars, according to the police report.

I read that those cigars were used for smoking the marijuana in, that they 'empty them out' and will it with pot. IIRC.

Great thoughts! I agree. I had the same feeling that a lot of sadness, frustration and anger built up in MB. And looking at his lyrics and FB / twitter posts, it seems to me, it's being on since a while. Maybe it spilled over that day. JMO.
