Have any of you read The Bonfire of the Vanities? I've read it so many times I almost have it memorized. I was looking in the closet for my copy last night and couldn't find it. I might want to reread it. It's a work of fiction, so it doesn't help with sleuthing, but if you are interested in this case I recommend you read it, if nothing else you will find it fascinating. The movie is so different from the book that I don't recommend it.

Yes, this is right out of The Bonfire of the Vanities. One of the novel's themes is ambitious DA's always on the lookout for The Great White Defendant. In real life, such as this week, it is the national media.

I'm curious if they have stated what the LE's hospital visit was about? Did he require care, stitches, and if so, is there photos or pics?

Ferguson LE has stated the officer went to the hospital for injuries sustained to his face but no report has been provided since the FBI & StL County LE are still investigating. NOTE: Ferguson LE was pulled of this case on, what, Sunday? I am sure a report will be full of information once provided to the public

So he committed robbery AND assault right before this happened?

What did he steal that was important enough to beat up a store clerk?

Is there a report that he beat up a store clerk? I haven't seen that.

The short video clip I saw was the clerk getting pushed by MB. I dont think he got beat up.

"strong armed" though

can I post the link?

I hope the toxicology report will be made public. It would be a crying shame if drugs were at the root of this young man's behavior on that day. jmo moo

Each of us has the right to our opinions. Your opinion is the total opposite of mine. There is no excuse for lack of respect for all authority. Just my opinion. I want to hear all the information, not just the information that fits a particular person's agenda.

If the authorities have treated hypothetical-you with disrespect for generations, how is it reasonable to expect you to show them respect? I'd hope and expect you to stand up (or sit down in non-violent resistance) and yell!

You of course have the right to your opinion that there is no excuse for lack of respect for all authority (as established, I disagree). But would only ask, is all authority everywhere always deserving of respect?

Caught up... Couple things:

According to the pdf, the cameras were numbered 3, 6, and 7.

On one of the stills, the 8 in the date is fuzzy and could be construed as a 6. BUT, the other stills are more clear and the date definitely shows an 8.

(The link to the pdf is was posted yesterday in this thread. I'm on mobile and can't search the thread. I saved it, and it's called Ferguson-police-report.pdf. If no one has the link handy, I'll hunt it down ASAP.)
Found the link:

D Johnson (partner in crime) has already confirmed they did in fact steal cigars from Sam's Meat Market before MB was shot by LE . . .

Cigars were stolen from Ferguson Market and Liquor.

Some here feel this is a racial issue, some don't. Will anyone change their minds? No.
If I see more personized posts where members are ticked off at other members over it, guess what happens next?

Although I do not believe this was a racially motivated incident, for the sake of fairness in examining this issue at a broad level......we could flip what I've boldened in your statement and turn it around the other way too, can't we?
If we really want to examine fully this issue and others like it; we must look at it unbiasedly from every party's perspective.

After all, there are 2 sides to every story and the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I say explore every facet. Examine all of the forensics, statistics, and anything measurable. Take opinion polls, gather evidence and research.

We need to solve this issue for our society and attempt to proactively address the need for peace and civility.

Nope, more mis information from the media IMHO

(maybe it has 2 names but I used to drive up there just to buy small eggs - only place around that sells small eggs)

Why shoot though? He's unarmed and with his hands up. So what if he flees? Call for backup and chase on foot. If you lose him then you investigate later by the typical methods. Everyone lives.

Brown was a suspect in a strong-arm robbery (violence) and had just assaulted the officer and tried to take his weapon (violence, violence) so the officer did his first duty which was try to protect the public from further violence by MB. I think if it had been in an area crowded with people, the officer probably would have given chase and called for back up. But it sounds to me that Brown was aggressively moving toward the officer and continued to move toward him even after initial shots were fired at him.

No one would have ended up dead if MB hadn't insisted on walking down the middle of the street instead of the sidewalk, followed by attacking a cop.

I don't understand not using sidewalks or crosswalks = really? Isn't that for our safety?

Michael Brown did not die because he was a black male. Michael Brown did not die because the Police Officer was a racist.

Michael Brown died because he was a criminal who resisted Police confrontation. The PO may not have known initially that MB was a suspect in a robbery but Michael Brown himself knew that he had just brazenly committed the crime of robbery.

Watching the video shows me that he was a bully, imo. He had no fear. He assaulted the owner when, with his open fist, he shoved the store owner's throat. He calmly exited the business as if he had the right to get something for free.

Many, too many, in our society of today feel entitled to free stuff. MB may have felt he could commit the theft without suffering repercussions. As someone here wrote earlier, this was most likely not MBs first crime. To that I shall add but it will be his last.

omo mho omho and all that jazz
