Thoughtful post - thank you! It has been seen in many communities when the money goes directly back into the PD budget it becomes a profit center.
When you remove the profit motive, the ticketing and fines go down. Don't get me started on seizing assets from those not convicted of anything. Canada has issued warning to citizens travelling in the US not to carry any large sums. IMHO, we need to remove the profit motive completely from every police force, because there will always be a few bad actors who will take advantage if they can.

I have never seen this reported other than people complaining because they keep getting tickets for going way over the speed limit. If this is true it should have been reported to Federal authorities. There is no profit collected from traffic violations given to police officers and any money an officer would take from a driver is illegal. Not sure why, with all the cameras today, someone would give an officer money as it would look like a bribe. If this should happen to anyone it would need to be reported.

Many people are not aware that in most locations PD can scan your license plate and know immediately that your car is not registered. So what you may view as an authorized reason for stopping you is actually quite legal. Modern technology is here to stay and whether we like it or not, do not break the law or you will be stopped.

Not sure what you are saying about the money going back to police departments. I read years ago people complained that this was their belief and the article said the court system collects the money which goes into whatever county/city/state fund. Police are paid by the city/county/state by way of a budget. That budget is based on income from such sources as property taxes, licenses, etc. If you don't register your car that is a state issue. If you don't have a license, register your car, or have car insurance that now becomes a state issue and an insurance issue. Insurance companies have a big stake in whether you carry insurance or not. And that pressure from big business filters down eventually onto local PD's. It is the law. They are required to do it and that is what they are paid for.

As is apparent, the story of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, has fallen off of the press radar to a large extent as well. Brown is the black 18 year-old who was shot and killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson on August 9. Despite overwhelming evidence initially available that Brown was a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 wannabe who likely precipitated the unfortunate events leading to his death, the fact that he was black and Wilson was white made the shooting a “murder by default” in the eyes of liberals and much of the black community in Ferguson who, like many blacks in America, are positively inured in the prevailing leftist racial orthodoxy.

The evidence also suggest wilson's actions were criminal

Not to mention accordind to the ferguson pd wilson had no knowledge of the robbery ....even if he did suspect brown once the teen put his hands up to surrender that should have been the end of it

Wilson played judge, jury and executioner that day and should be held accountable

I think "evidence" is what's presented at trial. All we have so far is information and speculation, true and untrue.

Hi LambChop! Sorry- was talking about PDs nationwide, as this has been in the news lately. There is one great article I cannot find now about PDs hiring consultants and a forum where police brag about their great asset seizures- even running a contest to see who can bring in enough money!
I will have to find that later- but here is a selection of stories on how some PDs have shifted their mission purely due to the profit motive. Enlightening stuff!

What have they done or said lately? Anything relevant? Has anyone stepped up and put their money where their mouth is?
Anyone of them buying up football tickets to further the demands being met?

If brown continued to advance toward Wilson, IMO wilson had reason to fear him justifying the final shots.

I would doubt they are buy football tickets for them. Heck, supporting the Brown family doesn't necessarily mean supporting some fool on twitter or youtube either though.

There are so many facts that still need to be sorted out to figure out if it was justified or not.

I don't suppose there is any way they can determine which of the 11 or so shots were the ones to actually hit MB is there? For example...1 and 2 missed, 3, 4, 5 and 6 hit his arm, 7, 8 and 9 missed, 10 hit his eye and 11 hit his head.

Just people that have spoken out in support of the Brown family or otherwise questioned police tactics.

I suppose it depends on whose definition of mainstream we use. My white old man's view of mainstream is much different than even my daughters much less MB or OW.

I'm old and know who they all are:) so they must be mainstream!
