GUILTY MO - Michelle Ricci, 36, & Marsha Spicer, 41, raped & murdered, Apr-May 2006

I'm sure that Davis never admitted guilt for his crime. He probably told everyone that he didn't do it, and perhaps they believed him, wanting to believe the best about a family member. I don't know much about the family of this little girl but from what I've read, it doesn't seem like she's been neglected or as if her father doesn't care for her appropriately. I hope that I'm right and that she has a loving, stable home to help her through the coming months and years.
From the looks of Davis & Riley , I couldn't leave a teenager alone with them let alone my little girl .That's what I meant by neglect. I hope she has a loving stable home , too ; but just like leaving a kid in a hot car, parents have to make sound decisions to know it's not ok to leave your child with a couple of creeps .What a nightmare . It's a miracle they didn't kill her. I wonder why they let one of their victims live this time .

Hi Desertjade, Maybe they let her live because she was only 5 and therefore possibly not a threat to them.

Hi Scandi,

Who knows? I think the accident had a lot to do with the timing of the giving up for these two.

This little girl sure could identify them and the family too.

I am just glad that she wasnt killed even though the thought of how painful her life will be from now on is very heartbreaking.

Oceanblueeyes,
Post #45 of this thread has a part of the news link about that.
Here is part of it;

</FONT>Police say the fugitives visited one of Davis' relatives in Pittsburg, Kan. on Thursday morning and made plans to get a bite to eat with the relative and her 5-year-old daughter. After arriving at the restaurant, the relative reportedly got out of the vehicle and Davis and Riley sped off with the young girl.

Within hours, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children issued a wanted flyer through their Locator Program, notifying law enforcement agencies in five surrounding states that the young girl had been kidnapped.

This is from the AMW site;
Police say the fugitives arrived in Arcadia, Kan. sometime on May 24 to stay with Davis' sister, brother-in-law and 5-year-old niece. Authorities are convinced these relatives were unaware that Davis and Riley were wanted by police. The next day, Davis and Riley drove the 5-year-old niece to a McDonald's restaurant at 11:30 AM with the girl's father following in another vehicle. Police say Davis and Riley sped off with the girl, never showed up at the restaurant and never brought the child home.

Local police quickly issued a wanted flyer through the LOCATOR Program (Lost Child Alert Technology Resource) provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. It notified law enforcement agencies in five surrounding states that the young girl had been kidnapped. A sheriff's deputy in Barton County, Mo. was reading that flyer in his command post when he was summoned to the telephone for a bizarre 911 call.

Thank you. I had suspected they knew they had the little girl but just didn't do a nationwide Amber Alert on her.

But the one that I read about on the CTV page was just a friend I think.......they are the ones that lied and said that these two weren't there when they were actually hiding in the closet and left shortly after LE had gone.

If I am not mistaken they have arrested that person. So I guess unlike Florida in Kansas it is against the law to impede an investigation.

Thanks everyone for the helpful links.

I think she was their sick version of a last meal - but because she was a relative, because they were already identified taking her, and because they expected to be dead, they didn't plan to kill her. The girl's parents didn't intentionally leave her with them - they were all going out for a meal, the girl got in the car first, and they sped off before the parents could get in.

There it is:
Police say that Davis and Riley tried to commit suicide by overdosing on pills. Contrary to earlier reports, police say Davis and Riley did not call the Barton County Sheriff's Department to surrender. They reportedly called the Sheriff's Department to request that the young girl be returned to her parents when she was found. "Davis and Riley planned to be dead when police found the girl," police told AMW. "They did not give their location to Barton sheriff's deputies."

According to police, Davis and Riley wrecked their vehicle either during or after their call with sheriff's deputies. The accident appears to be the result of the pills taken by Davis and Riley during their suicide attempt. "They were in no condition to drive," said an Independence Police sergeant.

Couple talks. Body found believed to be Michelle Ricci.

Thanks for the article. Maybe this was in an article somewhere but I missed it because I wasn't aware of this part of the story:

After the murder of Spicer, Ballew asked for the public's help with information about her daughter, (Michelle Ricci). She told the press that her daughter was acquainted with Davis and that she feared for her daughter's life. She also said her daughter was the woman whom Independence police were trying to locate through a picture released by the department. That picture was an image captured from a videotape seized at the home shared by Davis and Riley.

The more posts I read, the more horrified I am. How many will there be....how me will we never know about?

Sick SOB's.

Kansas City Star | 05/30/2006 | Second body may be linked to couple

... Richard D. Davis and Dena D. Riley, who have been accused of raping and killing Spicer, are scheduled to appear before Circuit Judge Marco Roldan at 11 a.m. today at the Jackson County Courthouse in Independence, said Ken Evans, spokesman for Jackson County Prosecutor Mike Sanders. They will be informed of the charges they face.

Ricci, 36, has not been seen since April 2. Authorities have been trying to ascertain whether Ricci is a woman seen on another tape found in the accused couple’s apartment...

...Ballew told KMBC-TV that an Independence policeman told her a body had been discovered. Ballew did not indicate that police identified the body, but she said in the broadcast that she believed it to be her daughter.

However, a family member said Monday that Ballew and her granddaughter were asked by Independence police on Sunday to provide DNA samples.

Evans on Monday evening declined to comment on Ballew’s televised statement.

“There are various pieces of evidence that have been recovered and are involved in the ongoing investigation,” he said...

Oh my!

Okay we know one is Spicer the other most likely Ricci, is the third victim a female? I wonder if they too will be found on the tape? Is anyone aware of another missing person from that area?

It is strange too that someone burns down the house where Ms. Ricci was living with her boyfriend 10 days after she went missing.

It is a miracle that this little 5 year old child is alive.

I think Davis is talking.

Independence, Mo. — The couple accused of videotaping the rape and murder of a 41-year-old Independence, Mo., woman pleaded not guilty Tuesday, while police continued to search for bodies connected to the pair.

Richard Davis, 41, and Dena Riley, 39, were arraigned Tuesday morning in Jackson County Missouri Circuit Court and pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, kidnapping, forcible rape and forcible sodomy in the death of Marsha Spicer.

A source close to the investigation told FOX News that police have found additional evidence connected to the case. The evidence was found in Monday in Lafayette County, Mo. — the same county where Spicer's body was found in a shallow grave on May 15.

What always amazes me ,in cases like this where there is proof positive up front-
What do they hope to gain by a plea of "not guilty?''
Are they so wacked out that they think they can escape punishment ?

Are they facing the death penalty? I remember Jeana stating before that if someone is going up against the DP, they have to plead not guilty because you cannot be sentenced to death without a trial, (or something along those lines).
