There is no English-language coverage of this disappearance that I could find, so I made a write-up (all Spanish-language articles linked below)

Lidya Ireydi Becerra Ramírez, 43, was traveling with her son, José Luis Lozano Becerra, 15, and her daughter, Kinnereth Ireydi Becerra Ramírez, 26. They were heading to the United States on the Cerralvo-Miguel Alemán highway from Rincón Guadalupe, Guadalupe, MX in two vehicles: a brown 2007 Honda Element with the license plate SRK1818 and a gray 2003 Honda Element with the license plate SPK3300.

Lidya and José were known to be in the brown 2007 Honda Element, and Kinnereth was driving the gray 2003 Honda Element.

According to Lidya’s father, Don Salvador Becerra Ibarra, the group was heading to McAllen, TX to buy clothes, something they did frequently, as they would resell those clothes in the markets in Monterrey. He hired a private investigator who was able to narrow down their last known location to an area known as La Antena, between Cerralvo, Nuevo León and Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas. The investigator also said that their cellphones pinged: two were traced to the Mexican side of the border and one was traced to Texas. The phones have since been turned off.

The prosecutor with the Mexican Attorney General’s Office assigned to the case refused to elaborate on the location of the phones citing the ongoing investigator, but confirmed “we have the telephone numbers and their location.”

Lidya’s father says he has traveled the entire route Lidya would have taken from their home in Rincón Guadalupe to the Reynosa area in the hopes of at least locating the vehicles, but he found no trace of them. “[It’s like] they were swallowed by the earth,” he told a reporter with Milenio Noticias.

Their last known location, according to the P.I. was between Ceralvo and Ciudad Mier, (about 60km apart from each other.) They are both on Highway 54.

But a more direct route to McAllen, TX looks to be highway 40, further to the east.

I wonder why they chose to take this route?

If they headed on highway 40 to Reynosa, McAllen is just across the border from there.

I've enclosed a map below.

Thoughts?

I think they may have crossed at the Roma–Ciudad Miguel Alemán International Bridge instead of crossing at Reynosa. The checkpoint at Reynosa is likely busier than the one at Ciudad Miguel Alemán due to the size of the local population on both sides of the border. Also, there are a number of armed groups that patrol the border between Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa, so they may have tried to avoid traveling on the roads parallel to the border.

Seems strange to me they would buy clothing in the US for resell in Mexico. I would think the cost in US would be much more than what they could recoup in Mexico.

I thought that myself, unless it was something very specific you couldn't get in Mexico.
But I'm sure there are all manner of things crossing the border, so nothing should be too unusual to get hold of, if you're Mexican. They're well catered for.

Most of the resellers don't buy new clothes, they buy used clothes in bulk from Goodwill and other second-hand sellers that they can resell at a markup back in Mexico.

That was my thought as well. Didn't make sense to buy new clothes for resell (even at WalMart or other discount stores) but Goodwill or other used clothing stores would be more likely.

Regardless of what they were purchasing with the plan of reselling, it can't be a good sign when their cell phones have already been located.

I am confused by the need for 3 people to take 2 cars.

My guess is that they were buying in bulk, which normally entails buying clothes by the pallets, so they probably needed two cars to bring it all back to Mexico.

They are most likely shopping thrift stores, NOT paying full price. Here's an interesting article as to how popular a practice that is for those crossing the border to shop. Here’s What Really Happens to Your Used Clothes

No new updates but the search is ongoing and is focused on the areas their phones last pinged, according to Mexican authorities.

''The Specialized Prosecutor for Femicides and Crimes against Women of the State, Griselda Núñez, assured that andThey have located the cell phones of the merchant and two of her disappeared children when they traveled to the United States In the past week.

Approached at the end of an inauguration event of the UANL Cybercrime, Digital Law and Cybersecurity Research Center, the Prosecutor pointed out that the information they have is that the cell phones are on and they are in the process of investigating to locate the equipment.

“So far what we have is the knowledge of the fact, the complaint made by the relatives and the investigative activities,” said Núñez.

“What the relatives refer to is that in this case we have the telephone numbers and their location as soon as there is relevant information will be made known to them.

“The telephones are turned on and they are under investigation, reviewing this type of information, right now they are developing this type of investigation.”

Any updates? It’s so sad that three people went missing and there’s barely anything out there about it.
