Myanmar death toll could top 10,000

Thank God he's not there now JBean.

I am glad he is not there now. But I am sure this must be painful for him. I am so sorry.
Gosh Amen. I don't mean for one minute to make this about my family, but we can't help but think about things like this.
I cannot even imagine this level of devastation. While my son was studying abroad, there was a typhoon or something that thye had to completely reroute their ship.
Oh gosh..I wonder if this years kids were there. I am going to check.

Gosh that scared me. The itinerary chages a bit each voyage. they did not go to Myanmar and this group is coming back in a few days. they are almost to Miami
Nassau, Bahamas
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Salvador, Brazil
Cape Town, South Africa
Port Louis, Mauritius
Chennai, India
Penang, Malaysia
Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam
Hong Kong
Shanghai, China
Kobe, Japan
Honolulu, Hawaii
Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Miami, Florida

OMG! That is staggering! These poor people. My heart goes out to them and I pray for them.
I can't put my mind around such devestation. Men, women, children, babies, and the elderly.
Just horrible! It really makes me stop, think and count my blessings.

Again thank God they're all safe.

The poor souls in Myanmar will now have to face cholera, unclean water and all the other diseases that come in the wake of dreadful natural disasters like this.

I finally watched a news report today about this tragedy.
I don't know how they'll recover.

That's about half of Cleveland, OH!!!! I can't even imagine this.

JBean, I am also glad your son is not there. Does he still have contacts living there that he's worried about? :(

have you actually ever lost your home to a natural disaster?
i have... 3 times.

so... yeah, i think that if their own country can't support them, then yes, then we, THE wealthiest nation in the world, should help those who are without shelter right now...

i'm sorry that you are having problems with the gov. right now, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't help a country that is in dire straights.
I understand wat Meduza was saying. I am also aware of the fact that our government is begging this country to take the money offered, while U.S. Katrina victims were begging our government for help.

I absolutely think that we should send aid to Myanmar asap. I cannot fathom the # of dead and missing.

The problem with sending aid to military ruled countries is that they often impound the supplies and sell them for astronomical profits - sickening.

The deaths from disease I'm afraid will be very high as well.

:furious: Why oh Why is the government seizing supplies ?! It makes no sense to me.

Hey 🤬🤬*wipes your country and its people need help!

This just makes me so mad!

I wish the cyclone had killed the government officials and their families. How cruel of them to handle this situation the way they are!

I just read that ALL of the supplies that they allowed the UN to bring in have been CONFISCATED BY THE GOVERNMENT and are NOT being handed out to the population. Unfortunately, this is another one of those situations where the military will be fed first and the rest of the citizens and die. Very, very sad indeed.

I don't believe they, the "government" gives a rats patootie about the victims.
Not one bit.

Unless aid is given directly to the victims, they won't get any of it.
imo
