Pima County police seem totally useless and FBI seems to have really slipped under Kash. How in the world did they just put those pics and video out without someone to provide guidance to the public?!?! It’s been 24 hours with that video/photo proof out there and the public has to rely on YouTubers to analyze the videos?!?

Couple idle musings this morning, all speculation, JMO.

I wonder if the POI at the door did have a plan originally for the camera, considering how he walked up to the door in one of the clips with his head tipped down (I've seen high school students walk this way oddly enough for some reason, not implying anything with that though). But then maybe he forgot the tape/spray paint/whatever, the plan was time sensitive, so he and any potential accomplices had to improvise?

Harvey with TMZ said in his Fox interview this morning the newest note (asking for one bitcoin to allegedly turn the culprit in) wasn't written in the same manner as the original one they received. I know there's been a lot of speculation that the first note was written with AI based on how 'meticulous' it was, but I'm wondering if it might be useful for LE to release portions of the note with interesting writing choices if they determined its likely to not be AI. People's writing quirks can stand out, even if they're pretending to be someone else. And if LE has a suspicion it's someone local to the Tucson area, they could filter tips that way first in terms of priority. I just say this because there's a few students I've had over the years with very unique writing (both good and bad!), and if I saw their writing years later, those identifiers of their writing style would come back to me.

In addition, if AI was used, there's still a possibility it's mimicking some of the habits the person putting in the request of 'write me a ransom note of xyz' in, depending on how the query was presented. If you ask AI to not use em dashes now, avoid 'its not x, its y', etc, some models can handle that. And you can also ask a model to 'sound like me' if you've talked to it enough and provided enough examples of your own work. Depending on the specificity of the request or how much 'massaging' (what I call it) the possibly AI written note went through, some potential writing patterns could have still slipped in.

When former FBI agent Katherine Schweit heard about the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, her mind drifted to a crime that took place in rural Wisconsin more than two decades ago.

An 88-year-old grandmother was abducted from her home in February 2003 and placed in the trunk of her car. Her abductor drove her to his property and shackled her inside a trailer. Soon after, the woman’s grandson, who owned a construction company, started to receive messages demanding millions for her release.

“The kidnapper thought he could get a big ransom from the family,” said Schweit, who investigated the case and helped capture the suspect and rescue the woman five days after she was taken.

The Guthrie case doesn’t seem to be following that script, Schweit said. “If you were going to abduct somebody for cash, why wouldn’t you aggressively try to get the cash by communicating with the family right from the start, so you could get your money and return the victim?”...
Because the case has blown up nationally. FBI is on the case and detection methods are much sophisticated now compared to 2003. The kidnapper cannot take too many risks - else they may get caught. It is interesting a demand for a single bitcoin was made today. Maybe they are now ready to let her go for $66K.

How do you know there wasn't/isn't one on hand?

Do you have a link that she had no wheelchair in the home?

I know that pictures show her with her cane but how to know if she has never used one or uses something similar occasionally.

It could be a widely used transport chair that is light weight and folds up many keep around for occasions like the mall or a festival where it is too far for those with limited mobility to walk and enjoy themselves. We know for a fact her mobility is limited and she is in constant pain as SG has described.

The tracks also could have been a wheelbarrow or similar, imo. Which we also don't know if there was one at the home.

all imo
No mention or link she has a wheelchair.

She CAN walk 50 yards. …a football field.

Moo…

An 84-year-old woman who was reported missing in Arizona has been identified by officials as the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced during a news conference on Sunday that Nancy Guthrie was last seen in the Catalina Foothills area on Saturday night at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said a family member reported her missing on Sunday, around noon.

Nanos said search and rescue teams have been out at Nancy Gutherie's home, along with homicide teams and detectives.

Foul play has not been ruled out at this time.

Am I missing something? It seems obvious to me this isn't the person that did anything to Nancy. This is a person sent to the house for Nancy and eliminate evidence. That would explain why he is unfamiliar with the house. It would also explain the full backpack. Items needed, e.g. cleaners, towels, blanket for Nancy.

What led them to C last night? Have they said?

Someone early on said something about a wheelbarrow. I thought it was ridiculous but after seeing the makeshift blocker with the flowers, anything is possible in this case I guess.
Precisely. This forum is dedicated to people who tend to overthink. In this case, it might be advisable to underthink.

I read this morning that they were moving swat teams and bomb technicians on to her property. I'm just wondering if she even left the property. She may be hidden or buried in her home or on her property.
I think LE dogs should have sniffed her out by now if so. But who knows.

Anyways. The perp will tell a disgruntled girlfriend or wife soon enough. And she will ultimately solve the case for us and the fbi. Just my opinion

The tracks just stuck out to me as odd. The wheelchair comment is what sparked me to recall these tracks. Maybe there was a cart of some sort to get her to the road where the vehicle may have been. jmo
I had a post a few days ago that did not garner any discussion, but I wondered if all of NG’s wheeled trash bins had been accounted for.

I had remembered another case where a killer had put the victim in one and removed her from a location.

It looks like a fleece jacket. The up close screen grab from the doorbell camera shows the fabric and slim cuff. I have several that look like that. To me it looks like a very common jacket style. Columbia, LL Bean, Cotopaxi make jackets like that. I’m in Tucson and see this style a lot.

Similar to this style of jacket

Agreed but I have been unable to find the exact style. LOL My first inclination was to go to LL Bean.

So around the cuffs---is that a different color on the inside cuff, like a sherpa fleece ?

Somebody mentioned a wheelchair upthread somewhere. It sparked a thought I had upon seeing first images of NG home. Toward the right side of the driveway it looks like tracks from a wheel chair or cart of some type to me. I think it was in a couple images that a drone took but have not been able to find them. Jmo
Edit to add the drone photos showed a clearer view that appeared to go right to the steps iirc.
This was my exact train of thought. Carting Nancy off in her wheelchair would have been much easier than trying to coax or carry her out. Her mobility was limited and it would have taken her a while to walk from the house to a potential pick-up car.

True.

The demand for the single bitcoin is not from the original ransom writer, nor does it claim to be. This person claims to be an associate of the person who kidnapped Nancy. They are offering to divulge the name of the kidnapper in exchange for 1 bitcoin ($66k). Likely a hoax, IMO. There's already a $50,000 reward. See the TMZ article posted upthread for details.

But why? Why take an 84 yr old woman? Why?
And that, dear people, is what's keeping me, and probably many of you, too, reading this thread.

She could've been my mother.

I'd really like to know the why of this.

We don't know who their intended audience is - it may be that the pics/video were released to rile up the perp(s). I personally don't think this individual is easily identifiable because I think their entire face save the whites of the eyes and pupils is completely covered by masks. Maybe the clothing could be identifiable. It is not a slam dunk at all.

Great job! Removed N using a wheelchair /cart (dolly) isn’t something I would have thought of.

There is no wheelchair. She was not not being "carted". She was able to use Uber normally.
I think that maybe she hasn't left the property at all. Maybe she is hidden or buried right on her own property
