Slim, I follow you and appreciate your thought. I, too, believe this crime has been premeditated by a very thoughtful and intelligent criminal mind. My question is not a challenge to your position but one of genuine interest about your thought. I believe the Lantana Man video was likely a staged as a distraction: the person in the video is not who kidnapped NG; Lantana Man was possibly hired and given his disguise to distract everyone's attention. Lantana Man probably doesn't even know the person in charge and was hired by him knowing very little. Lantana Man could be an ex-con looking for a buck, hired simply to scare and distract at the residence (that's all he was hired to do, in my scenario). He doesn't want to go back to prison and has thought for years about things he could have done to never get caught again.

How do you reconcile the inconsistent behaviors in the video if Lantana Man is the intelligent, pre-planning psychopath? He's keeping his face away from the camera until he goes to knock on the door, and then he looks repeatedly into the camera. If he's a pre-planner, why wouldn't he have come up with a better idea in advance to take out the camera?

The changes in Lantana's gait and the apparent layers of disguise make me think he's an experienced perp who knows how not to be identified and caught. The melodramatic holster placement and shenanigans with the lantana, along with the inconsistencies described above, scream "staged" to me. I also go back to him never trying the doorknob but apparently about to knock on the door. I think it possible he was there to try to provoke a response by either getting law enforcement to come out or to trigger a Nest notification to the family that a bad guy was at NG's house. I think the video was absolutely expected to be viewed; they didn't anticipate it not being recorded. I think it was staged after NG was already taken from the home. Knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell (which I also think looks possible in the video), he couldn't have expected anyone to answer with him looking like that. He's a distraction to keep us looking in the wrong direction.

As for the real perp's identity, I think you're absolutely right with the psych profile. I also think he's probably obsessed with SG, and, his interest in her unreciprocated, he goes after the thing dear to her, as evidenced in her late 2025 "My Hometown" production.

I once thought he was probably tech sophisticated and that ransom was the long-term plan. I no longer do. This is simply about influencing the object of his obsession.
I would genuinely like to hear your ideas. Mine are only theories, and you may have explanations I haven't considered. Thanks.

Definitely could have been an ex post facto attempt to obfuscate and/or distract, but I suppose if it was staged then her blood on the sidewalk would've had to have been staged as well. It'd be harder to make it look like she went out the front door than to simply bring her out the front door. Or to not even leave any blood at all if you didn't bring her out the front door.

I agree that it could've been taunting, but I feel that the guy on camera is directly responsible for the actual crime. Whether he staged the scene or the camera was merely an unanticipated distraction for him along the way, the odds are that he participated in this crime, and likely even committed it alone.

Even meticulous planners can't/don't necessarily anticipate everything within all steps along the way. He clearly anticipated a camera with the way he approached and dipped his head, but he didn't expect the one that seemed to be literally attached to the front door. That is unusual, because typically they are on the brick moulding to the side.

So even if he was meticulous with his planning and did case the house well beforehand he probably wouldn't have seen that camera in what appears to be an unusual/atypical mounting place.

My main issue is why the front door? Why not an easier, more efficient, and less risky exit?

JMO.

With that in mind, what is the main objective in your opinion?
Finding NG, or catching the perpetrator?
Even if they find the perp,(celebrity stalker!) they may never find NG. She may be buried in the desert somewhere and he may never disclose that. He may put a gun to his head if he feels LE closing is in on him and die with his secrets. Prove he is even the perp and not just the owner of some DNA. Proof comes with a jury. Finding NG dead or alive will end this case. Finding the perp may not. People die with their secrets. JMO

The Pima County Sheriff's Office and the FBI have launched new web pages to facilitate the sharing of any relevant information.

If you have a camera and reside in the area investigators want to review your footage. This includes smaller streets within the area.

They are focusing on cars between 10 p.m. January 11 and 1 a.m. January 12, as well as 11 p.m. January 31 to 4 a.m. February 1, the morning Guthrie went missing.

The areas of interest extend from Ina Rd. to La Cholla, then down to River Rd. and over to Roller Coaster Rd.
I wonder what Nancy was doing on January 11th. I don’t see any posts on her Facebook until January 13th.
January 11th was as Sunday night

Weather: Jan 11- 45 degrees, 8 mph winds
Moon- waning crescent

Jan 31- Saturday night to Sunday morning
Moon- waxing gibbous

Both visits are weekends. Why? Does perp work during the week or have kids during week?

I don't know if this has already been posted. If so apologies.

William Bratton: There’s a large ‘range of people’ investigators have to look at in Nancy Guthrie case

Former NYPD Commissioner William Bratton and legal analyst Rikki Klieman discuss Savannah Guthrie’s pleas for her mother’s return and share legal and investigative insight into the case on ‘One Nation.’

I wonder if the Guthrie family lawyers have had a pointed word with him? While I agree some of the baseless accusations thrown at the family are unfair, clearing them after several days seems premature. Yeah, that's great they were cooperative but several days doesn't seem like enough time to test and sift through all that evidence. If I were running the show my policy would be that no one is cleared until there's an arrest.
Good point. To me the problem isn't when people are cleared. The problem is saying no one is cleared on day 13, then saying the family was cleared after a few days.

I don't know anything about how this field operates (and to be clear this is not intended as a criticism of working with that particular lab), but it's kind of wild to me that there isn't some provision for weekend work when what's at stake is potentially finding a kidnapping victim, where not just days or hours, but minutes count IMHO...

This crime bears the hallmarks of a burglary gone bad and escalated, rather than a kidnapping. There was no planning, a single offender who knew that she lived alone, and haphazard efforts at covering his tracks.

A kidnapper smart enough to demand bitcoin, which is largely untraceable, would surely be smart enough to avoid a doorbell camera and putting a flashlight in his mouth to illuminate the scene even brighter.
Meaning the two may not be related. Very possible. No proof has been given that Bitcoiner really has info. If a burglary went wrong, moving her would cover-up - no body. This could explain the 41 minutes in the house. And, if a body was taken into the desert, Mexico, elsewhere, locating a body would take a long time, definitely long enough for the culprits to be long gone. I can't see anyone keeping a body for long.

Was something stolen from the home, other than NG? Why would he take her if it was a burglary gone wrong (assuming going wrong was that she was killed)? If I recall, she had a hearing impairment; if that's true, it seems as though it would be relatively easy to break in to the home and take whatever without even rousing her.
Nothing was stolen that I heard of, but she could have encountered him just as he got inside, before he had a chance to act. Was she still up, maybe?

I do not believe he planned to kidnap her but felt he had to to avoid getting caught. If he was an incompetent burglar, he was no longer thinking rationally, just about self preservation. He probably thought on the fly what to do with her, and dropped her somewhere in very short order..

An obsessive perp would be a loner and not hire someone else to do this crime. Which obsessive person with no personal connection to the object of their obsession has ever hired anyone else to influence or hurt said object? I can't think of any. Follow the money trail. I am almost sure this crime is related to money. JMO.
You know, I think you're right, Agatha, about an obsessive individual only working alone. Thanks. I still don't think money is the motive, though. A serious money person would understand how essential collateral would be, and, unless the Guthrie children are seeing more than the public, there's been no proof of life.

I also wonder if the family hasn't been contacted more directly than through TMZ, and we just don't know about it.

I think it's as CiCi Moore stated in her interview with BE, the vast majority of DNA research cases are for long ago crimes that require very intricate work, such as cold cases. When there is an urgent need, it would make sense to open during off hours and I'm certain any DNA lab anywhere would be happy to assist.

The reason behind my response is that you mentioned that you “wished” the FBI had paid the ransom early on and then followed up my saying that the FBI certainly has the tools to find the perpetrators of this terrible crime.
While those are certainly things that many are hopeful and wish could happen, however the cold reality is that even with the latest science and technology these crimes take time to solve, gathering and analyzing evidence. Law Enforcement has to have their facts 100% straight in order to get a conviction and make the charges stick.
LE knows a lot more than you think and a lot more than they let on. I am not arguing about their due diligence. But their capabilities are more than you give them credit for. They will solve this case and have it wrapped up in a tight bow for you.

I stand by what i said about the ransom but that’s just my opinion.

Cleared by Sherriff, not by FBI. If new evidence is found, new ballgame. For now, they are considered cleared. jmo
This is exactly what’s been throwing me off. I don’t understand how one can clear them, but not the other.

we haven't seen any footage of NG being dropped off that night, but there is a record of the times the garage door opened and closed. She was probably dropped off inside the garage and went directly in the house. The doorbell camera wouldn't necessarily record that.
If that's the case then it also wouldn't record the perp pulling car around driveway to garage to hide until they were ready to use it to remove NG out the front door.

Good morning,
What I keep hanging up on is, if it's not a kidnapping for money, exactly what kind of serial offender is it? LE says it is not a robbery gone wrong, and it doesn't feel like a home invasion because there doesn't appear to be any forced entry. I can't figure it out. Gah!
It's not serial. It's targeted. It is a male, delusional, lovesick, celebrity stalker of SG. He watches her daily. he thinks everything she says has a hidden meaning between the 2 of them that is cementing the fact that she loves him too. He hungrily scans all media, looking for mention of SG's name..THUS the TMZ (entertainment based outfit). That's why the TMZ ransom emails. He probably has a little area in his home dedicated to her..A poster, some magazines etc. He maybe is emotionally docile. A deep-thinking, loner and suffering from lack of self esteem and unable to have a real life encounter with a woman in his peer group. Possibly lives with his MOM and deeply enmeshed with her. He has been suppressing his fixation on SG for sometime and can no longer do so. He's an SG stalker. That's been my opinion from the first day and I am sticking to it! JMO..MOO
