I’ve also floated the idea that he used the flowers to try to lure her to the door but I’m just not sure. If she saw something weird on the cam would she really open the door to see what it was, as an 84 year old woman living alone at 1-2am? But I suppose it’s possible, if she’s felt comfortable and safe in that house and neighborhood for all these years.

Yes..I don't know if I would either, and I live in a very safe area of the UK, with a husband and three young adult men, and an A-hole cat! But they can also pick up audios..one way I believe, so not recording if not linked to a sub, so she may have recognised the voice or maybe someone lied?

I wouldn't read too much into whether people have been "cleared" or not... I've heard detectives on podcasts and shows say many times that their policy is to never "clear" suspects, at least not until their investigation is finished. I think the FBI is saying the professional thing to say. I think Nanos does not prescribe to that particular train of thought. All MOO.

IMO, the Sheriff was able to clear the family--all 3 children & their spouses--because they have zeroed in on a suspect(s) for whom they have evidence of them being at the crime scene.

It seems there's a good chance that LE has got these suspects under extensive surveillance while LE continues to gather and confirm their evidence to prove in court that these suspects committed this crime and to ensure they have a rock solid case that will lead to a conviction.

I’m skeptical as well, as the DNA at the home was found early on per the Sheriff. I can only deduce that it’s likely not a complete sample or it would have been run in codis and genealogy websites much sooner imo.

The fact that the sample on the gloves can be ruled out as being from the same source of DNA found in the home leads me to believe that genealogy likely will identify the source of the glove DNA but I doubt the source is the perp.

I’m not sure what you mean by “back-tracing 4473s”… this is basically what they’re doing. 4473s are paper forms retained by dealers. The only “tracing” that can be done is with a serial number and hopping from manufacturer to 4473 to 4473.

I’m also not sure how effective refusing compliance would be… probably just wind up with an ATF agent showing up to inspect your records and at that point you’d better start praying nothing is amiss.

Well, correct. FFLs keep 4473 forms in their bound books. There is no database or other record of it (so they say). ATF can audit an FFL's bound book any time. They can legally trace or "back-trace" a 4473 is once a crime is committed w/ a serial number. Now investigators here apparently have a list. I wonder how they complied that and if they had some serials in this process. There are investigative ways to get (maybe actually found said guns on POI, pics on socials, etc.). Again, proving someone bought a gun from a gun store doesn't mean that much. Even finding a gun on a POI doesn't say anything in this case if they are not a prohibited person. They have to have some other idea here.

FFLs have no obligation to volunteer this info, without a serial linked to an actual crime. It's a huge slippery slope among gun guys. Whether the ATF would step in to audit your bound books as a response is possible but also slippery.

I am curious how they are asking for sales cause they can't tell much about the gun except assume it's a small frame prob. late gen semi auto. It can also be a replica for all we know. So they are going off of people-- a list of people. I am assuming these are POIs or match some other link (the backpack sales, really?) , all long-shots as this case seems to have a lot of that. The whole thing seems like another circumstantial tactic just like testing random gloves on the side of the road miles away from the scene.

Now all this is predicated on what we know, and of course they may know a lot more that they aren't disclosing.

I just watched Will Cain interview a Tucson gun shop guy who responded about an FBI visit to his business asking about individuals, Maybe the sheriff was unaware of what the FBI was doing at the time of his interview. Maybe not 40 persons or dozens as he was asked?
