Came here this morn to say exactly the same thing. Now I feel that is what happened. A target of Savanah Guthrie's mother. A news 'celeb', hence ransom note originally to TMZ. TMZ is all about celebrity people news and updates. Nancy did not make it for long at all, still tried to get the planned ransom that is stretched out as why not keep trying? I think that was the little delay in contacting TMZ, what to do, what to do. No sign of life. They might just go away, done. N.G just not delivered or told where she is for sure, what's it to them at this point, they see no ransom coming their way.
Maybe someone will 'talk' for the reward, but also in great fear for their own life if they do. IMO
Oh I also felt definitely local due to targeting SG's mother. IMO

In other words...the case is going cold.
I think that sums it up. The media are struggling for anything to report. The ones that are camped out at the NG home are no doubt making plans to pack up the tents. I wish the family would come out and thank so many that have showed strong support and even for the media for keeping the story going. People are saying such an amateur crime however is it really? 3 weeks and not even a car video and now after 3 weeks maybe more than one involved. Even Brian Entin is not reported as much and not reporting anything new. I think most media will leave and wait for some serious action and return if the story gets hot..

Possible charges are kidnapping and murder. And it is not necessary to list, or discuss, every lesser and included crime (that aren't going to be used in a murder trial) so early in the case since we don't know what the evidence shows or what could happen at trial, if there ever is one.
The charging codes of the state define the crimes and list the elements of each crime, the dictionary definitions are not relevant. Arizona has the felony murder statue, when the suspect entered that property/house, be it forced entry or not, whatever crime he intended on committing is not relevant, he did commit a qualifying felony and if the victim is deceased, it is murder, no matter how she died or where she died.
  • Definition: Under Arizona Revised Statutes 13-1105, a person commits first-degree murder if, acting alone or with others, they commit or attempt to commit specific felonies (e.g., robbery, burglary, kidnapping, sexual assault) and, in the course of that offense, another person dies.
  • No Intent Required: The prosecution does not need to prove the defendant intended to kill the victim, only that they intended to commit the underlying felony.
MOO
Respectfully, the discussion went that way organically. Your points about AZ law are well taken, but to the best of my knowledge, the Mods had no issue with it. That's good enough for me.

The thing that bothers me in this case is that it had a high likelihood of a quick resolution.

She was reported missing extremely early, much earlier than we see in many cases.

The resources that were offered and made available were much greater than most cases.

Yet here we are and their seems to be very little traction in finding Nancy.

I hope dna can solve this case bc I think it’s the best hope.

The only other way I can see a resolution happening is someone turning the perp in, but a lot of times that can take years. Usually turned in by a spurned lover, from friend etc.

I really feel for the Guthrie family
I agree with all.
I had really hoped it was near resolution when one of the TMZ notes claimed they would give the name of the kidnapper and that they weren't being taken seriously.
I guess that was a hoax.
But you'd hope someone would do it for the reward money.

as you said "they might just go away done". I think that is what happened. Ransom deal failed. Dumped Nancy somewhere and perps could be anywhere back to day to day life.

"Detectives are still reviewing recently submitted surveillance video from her neighbors. " Recently? They just got this now? That would have been one of the first spots to go to. I just don't get any of this.
I believe it’s video they requested from a much earlier timeframe, much earlier than they originally focused on.

Not unusual in a case like this imo

Or left the country to leave it behind them.

This is really difficult for me to tell, but the implications are so insane if true...

Could the weeds he is holding in his hand be the same weeds left lying on the ground and not collected as evidence??

So, a lovesick, unhinged, attention seeking, celebrity stalker...ransom note is real, imo but the ransom note writer may not be the perp but knows who the perp is. They may be one and the same, also. My vote is they are the same person. Tech savvy, articulate, living in a fantasy world of TV and movies, targets NG because he "lets" SG into his home every morning via the Today show and has a fantasy fixation on her. Motivation is the key here.

Not interested in statistics that kidnaping for ransom is rare. It's only rare until it happens to your family. My definition of a stalker might be different than yours. Someone who lusts from afar. Obsessively collects articles about the object of his affection. Might infrequently, casually visit her Instagram page and and make a complimentary comment. Inwardly, he churns with desire for SG. He steals NG to get the attention of and control of SG. The kidnaping resulted with injury or death. UH OH Not in the plan. I have consistently said that TMZ being contacted was deliberate. They disseminate all manner of celebrity news. This perp is a celebrity junkie with SG being his target. JMO.

I think he misspoke. Saturday night is a big point of reference in this case because it is claimed by the family that that was the last time that they saw Nancy when they dropped her off at her home.

This presser was February 5th - when the media presence was intense and the pressure was on. Also, this was days after Nanos' brother died.

Nanos said his team was out there Saturday night. Do you really believe LE at PCSD would go along with the ruse that Nancy was reported missing Sunday morning if in fact she was reported missing Saturday night?

Also, if this were true, why is lantana man on Nancy's porch around 2 a.m. Sunday morning with no one in sight?

It is a nothing burger imo.

No not lovesick. Money to be had is all imo

This is going around social media at the moment and people are tying it to the report date on the Pima County Sheriff Evidence Submission Portal. If you go to the portal it says report filed 1/31/2026 6:00 PM
I'm thinking that it was a mistake for the last seen date. ??

This is really odd, I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for it. But just add it to a list of unusual things in this case

No no we must hyper analyze everything the sheriff says and then pile on HARD if he misspeaks so we can get more likes/views /s

I think it's the last seen date and just looks out of place. I really don't think much of it but in a case with so much controversy I can understand people wanting to highlight it so see how much attention it gets. MOO

Investigation IMO has been problematic.

Cessna aircraft is outfitted with high-resolution thermal imaging cameras capable of detecting heat signatures in rugged terrain. After argument, sheriff had re-assigned pilot to ground duty. No one else could fly plane. Valuable time lost.
NG home area searched, then left. Neighbor alerted missed roof cameras.
Home area not off limits yet revisited by investigators.
Pizza delivery guy walked right into investigation.
Rio Rico man detained because of Door Dash/door broken down. Nothing.
Nearby mother/son home searched. Why? Nothing.
Man/home searched wth no evidence except he was previously in prison.
Found glove revealed no results.
Backpack currently no evidence.
APS left card left in door.
No requests for "people" organized searches for NG.
No ground searches of desert near Tucson.
Reward has not yet worked.
NG not found. Criminal(s) not found. Bitcoin continual demanders not found.
What has a search with no results cost so far?

Imo, the Sheriff is trying to address, satisfy, his public with what little information that’s suitable to reveal while still an active investigation.

The misunderstandings that I see are from a lacking of understanding that investigative conclusions are lead by science which changes as more results are analyzed and applied.

For example the guy that was briefly detained had science on his side so although he was upset feeling that it had diminished him in his community he wasn’t jailed and taken to trial to defend his innocence.

That the investigation is evolving, that LE is eliminating, going back to the scene to test their their theories, is good, imo.

I ask some to consider that NG’s home has been released to not any ordinary family but one with a multimillionaire with a crime and law background. Not a inner city slum rental turned vacant meth house.

I’ve seen no evidence or seen comments that there has been trespassing in the home, the site of the crime scene, by anyone.

I believe not even the family has been inside instead, possibly it seems to appear, having LE give their representative some small items.

All imo

ABC News has previously reported investigators are leaning away from both men as possible suspects
Snipped for focus:

Disheartening to say the least.
Always back to square one.

Yeah it’s just odd that it would be filed as the date of the actual report.

I’m not sure i’ve ever seen it done that way before.
