I do not think she opened the door.
I wouldn't. I would call 911

Not only that, I wonder why she opened the door, if she opened the door. (not sure if she did). I certainly would not. Don't know how they got in, unless she accidentally left a door unlocked or something. From what I've read, there does not appear to be forced entry. No evidence of forced entry at the front door.

I would love to see a time stamp. What if he did this BEFORE she got home and was already in the house waiting? I don't think the times line up. Just throwing it out there as a very weak idea.
That's a great point. She went into her house through the garage, and this eerie person likely knew that.

It's hard to tell, but on the video it looks like he enters the portico from the left. So the vehicle is probably on the left out of camera view. Also, on the video, you can clearly see him turn off the flashlight in his mouth as he approaches. Most likely with his teeth since his hands were at his side.

It looks like he's holding the plants up to cover the camera and using his left hand, but it could be that simultaneously he is using his right hand to work on the removal of the doorbell. So I do wonder about his handedness given the location of the weapon.
Gun positioning is the best indicator I think. That’s how you’d have the handle facing if you’re right handed.

What chat got says

What the setup looks like

  • The gun profile does read more like a semi-auto (flat slide, no visible cylinder bulge).
  • The holster, though, is very Western / single-action revolver era in design:
    • Full-length, closed muzzle
    • Light leather body
    • Dark edge binding
    • Single dark retention strap across the body (not a modern thumb-break)
    • Low-ride / drop style rather than a high concealment rig

That combo absolutely exists — it’s uncommon, but it’s a known crossover style.

Still looking for THAT HOLSTER. we can find it if it’s not homemade
Looking more closely at the holster in the 2 views. It is an unusual holster for a semi auto. The strap goes across the slide/frame area of the gun and not a hammer retention strap like a revolver. It has the profile of a buscadero type holster (more used in revolvers, but there are some of this type for semi autos). If this isn’t homemade, that holster should be able to be identified. I’m still trying.

could the suspect have a grill or metallic tooth? i don't think there is a flashlight in his mouth, but something in his mouth is causing the light to reflect. imo it's a male.
Light on Nest doorbell?????

Interestingly enough, I don't see confidence. I see frustration and having to come up with a way to cover a camera that they didn't factor in? Or it was meant to be disconnected?

I don't know. There's something odd about this person's attitude. Someone who knew the camera was there would have, to my mind, come prepared to immediately destroy it. This person looks as if a key was expect among the pebbles, and the camera is a hassle.

Just thoughts...opinions.
Looks like he/she noticed the camera afterward and went down by the rocks to find something to block it or smash it and decided on the flowers. JMO of course.

I know people are debating right vs left handed, but there's a possibility the suspect is ambidextrous. JMO based on the gun holster and picking/handling things with their left hand.

Strange way to try to cover the camera with the side of their hand. Why not use a flat hand/palm?

  • #17,715
True. But he grabs and holds the lantana from the yard in his left hand ???
to remove the device at door with his right hand I'm ambidextrous, too.

The images, the video showing gait, the way the gun is positioned (unique), dimensions of the gun, the lack of sophistication in dealing with camera, exact timing for cell phone triangulation, clothing to compare….the snowball is rolling now on the way to the whole snowman (person). The biggest hope beyond nabbing this person, would be getting Nancy home safely.

I don’t think this person has thin brows. The lighter coloured edging of the eye holes are partially covering the brows. The lighter coloured material mimics skin but I think it’s just the design of the eye holes making the brows look thin/feminine. A bit of an optical illusion

So I'm still running through a few parts slowly, I was able to get a semi-enhanced version of the gun, shoes, flashlight.

That is a fantastic picture !! I am so amateur when it comes to trying to even copy/paste things !! The close-up of the gun in the holster is great for me to see.

I hear ya, I am limiting the word "confidence" to the cover of darkness, not to the entire endeavor. I think he was confident he wouldn't be seen because it is completely dark.

I can understand the "ho hum" pace. It was pitch dark. The perp was certain he wouldn't be seen by anyone except through the camera, and he took care of that. The darkness gave him confidence, imo.

If it was pitch dark and no one could've seen him, how did he see the camera?

JMO.
