Honestly though, someone will recognize him. Very clear shots of his body type, attire, eyes and mouth. It's a rarity in unsolved cases like this. No way he can get away with it forever.

I hope LE has an idea of the vehicle he was in and can give the public tips on that as well.
Hope so.
We don't want another Bridge Guy experience.

It is creepy as h*ll. If I dressed like that, I’d scare myself.
The body looks like a male, but eyes look female.

There is some great analysis live on NewsNation now.

can't distort bone structure jmo
It can distort the appearance of bone structure though, which we often detect via contours and shadows.

Not supposed to post names, and not sure how much I am allowed to post. I'll just say DE is well known to the SIL.
Bandmate

  • #18,107
Who is DE?
DE is the SIL's bandmate. While I guess it could be him, the family says they don't recognize the guy in the photos/videos. Also, DE lacks the facial hair and as far as I can tell has prominent ears. I could be wrong, but I don't think it looks like the guy has large ears under that ski mask.

Gah, I've missed so much on this thread this mornng!! I only just watched the released door cam footage. A few things come to mind (likely already discussed pages ago):

1. Calm, cool and collected and not in any rush. Doesn't seem nervous. Experienced in functioning under pressure?
2. To me, looks/seems like a young person
3. So only 1 perp? Not 2? He has to be very fit/strong to carry her out on his own
4. He seemed prepared and persistent. The camera obstacle and risk didn't slow him down nor did he move onto another house if just a B&E. He wanted in that house. Reminds me of BK from Idaho 4 a bit in that regard
5. Can't tell his size... build and height? I'll try to read back to see as I'm sure FBI have measurements
6. Sounds like they're saying it's a man, but the face shot looks very feminine to me... the eyes... like wearing mascara???

Inverted ....not great but decent
Oh wow. I feel like you can see the edge of a second mask on the eyelid of the right eye. Unless this person has very prominent lids.

Why would he want to expose his eyes and mouth? Like why not wear night vision glasses? Also, not cold in Tucson and he seems to wear such padded clothing.
It gets cold here at night (I'm in a suburb of Phoenix). Also, we don't know if he might have transported her to a higher elevation in the area where it would probably be even colder.

No
Wow
The image sure gives the FBI something to work with on identifying certain aspects of him.
Height?
Is that skin showing around eye holes?
Manufacture/brand name of backpack? etc?
Gun manufacturer?
Was the FBI sitting on this image?

No way they were sitting on pictures, videos. JMO
If they had them first day, they would have been posted.

I’m never catching up, so apologies if I’m repeating anything.
That outfit screams layers, and it’s all so deliberately random and ‘vintage’ to me. IMO several layers, to distort looks and change top layer in case a BOLO went out, and purposefully be unlike clothes/bag/holster the subject is widely known to have in regular life. It looks like it’s a thrift store/garage sale/lost & found costume. For example, the outer balaclava is old school, (looks to me like a couple of layers of mask underneath) and the holster is a good style, but ill suited for the gun the subject has. Everything about the outfit looks staged to my mind.

Layers to CONTAIN fingerprints and DNA.

Hoping some of my fellow gun owners will chime on this type of carry. Is this what we're seeing on the Nest photos/videos?

Edited to add: I realize he has a holster, but barely, and really looks like he might be used to carrying without.

"Mexican carry" refers to the practice of carrying a handgun inside the waistband (IWB) without a holster, typically positioned at the front (appendix position). The term originated in the 19th and early 20th centuries and refers to the habits of Mexican vaqueros (cowboys) and civilians. [1, 2, 3]

Here is why it is called "Mexican carry":
  • Historical Context (19th-Early 20th Century): During times of political instability and restrictive gun laws in Mexico, citizens often defied bans on carrying firearms.
  • Defiance of Restrictions: To avoid being caught with a holster—which would be obvious evidence of carrying a weapon to authorities (Federales)—men would simply tuck their revolvers into their waistband behind their belt.
  • Convenience and Stealth: This method allowed them to quickly discard the weapon, if necessary, and retrieve it later.
  • Cultural Origin: The term is considered a historical reference to the practices of Mexican vaqueros and citizens of that era, rather than a derogatory term, notes firearms expert Massad Ayoob. [1, 2, 3, 4]
While the term is synonymous with "appendix carry" today, modern "Mexican carry" specifically highlights the lack of a holster, which is generally considered unsafe with modern pistols due to the risk of the trigger being snagged. [4, 5, 6]

I don't think we have official information on this. MOO it can be simultaneously true that it took a while to get them (again, based on personal knowledge and experience, I would expect this to take some time) and that once they got them, they held off on releasing them for a reason they haven't disclosed (but obviously people have been speculating on...).
Someone posted it earlier:

Working with our partners - as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance.

I think you're right. It's multiple masks or multiple parts of masks and possible layering of said masks.
