I wonder if there is any knowledge of the Guthrie family owning crypto? I suppose even if not, this demand might be the kidnapper's way to get hard-to-trace money.

Who was supposed to be taking her to church on Sunday? Shouldn’t it have been that person to be the first to find out Nancy was missing when they came to pick her up and she was gone? It sounds like her friends who were already at church were the ones who sounded the alarm first when she didn’t show up for church.

earlier on, i felt pretty confident that nancy would drive herself to church and this part wasn't weird to me. she had a car. she wasn't an invalid, just couldn't walk far distances.

saying nancy hadn't actually gone to the church in a long time and just watched a livestream. if this is accurate, how would anyone know she was missing? if the person who reported her was involved, why would they do that? could be another point toward the ransom note being legitimate in some way, whoever wrote it wanted to get their plan in motion maybe? IMO

but this part is now totally muddy and confusing too.

That all just seems like the stuff of a Lifetime movie to me.

I've never followed a case where there was an actual ransom demand from kidnappers.

If this is a forcible kidnapping of an 84-year-old medically compromised woman for ransom, this case is one of the biggest outliers ever.

Regardless of whether it's real or a hoax, the FBI may be using this appeal for proof of life as a way to flush them out.

IIRC, the "kidnappers" demanded their Bitcoin by tomorrow or they'd wait until 4 days later and kill her on Monday.

As one does.

I think kidnappings of foreigners for ransom is pretty common in Mexico. Tuscon is pretty close to the Mexican boarder.

Cases like this bring back trauma as my husband calls it. I like to think that it was what lead me to become Sleuthster.. When I was 11 I faked being sick because I wanted to stay home from school. My mother went t work 10 minutes away and told me to call if I felt worse and she'd come home. At lunch time I walked down the street to check the mailbox. minutes after returning home a man knocked on door saying he was pest control. I told him through door my mother was in shower. He told me to open door now cussing and said if I didnt it wasn't going to end well. I looked out the kitchen window by door and saw a gun in his waist band. I called my mother and she said the owner didn't call pest control and she was coming home. I told her that he was out back trying to get on screen porch breaking screen. She told me to get her gun in closet and hide in food pantry and use it if I had to. Yes apparently she had a loaded gun in closet I didnt know about. long story short as I hid at 11 I never thought I'd be kidnapped. I thought, if he is able to get in I will not be alive. She came home screaming out front at someone. She was crazy and tried to drag him out of car she said. He did get into porch and was trying t jimmy sliding door lock. the police never found him. she was smart yelling because -people came outside. Kidnappings for ransom are rare. I'm not geting this vibe is my point

I wouldn't be surprised if multiple people were involved. A smart person with the Bitcoin account and ransom demand, maybe the mastermind behind this. Then someone significantly less sophisticated who was paid to go do the dirty work of breaking in and taking NG.

I have a weird feeling about the gap in time from 11 until noon, but I'll say that her absence could have been noted even if she attended services remotely. My synagogue livestreams many of their services, and usually the same people log in each time and chat before services begin. If she was absent from a Zoom room it could have been noticed.

If reports are true, it sounds like details were mentioned in the letter that were never made public. So I’m thinking the perp(s) did send it.

However I do agree that it was probably an afterthought and sadly NG may have been killed on Sunday. Really really hope I’m wrong though.

LOL I love your choices. This video was 90% eulogy. That bothered me. Now is the family's chance to scream that their mom needs their heart med or pacemaker is hasn't been monitored and needs to be by this Friday or XYZ...

No urgency. Just a eulogy. I think the sister that lived closer would have taken the lead in this kidnapper video; but no. Think she was too frazzled; and maybe for good reason. The body language between those three was strained for sure.

I just don’t think any kind of body language or oral language or strain can be read into in a situation like this. No one is prepared for a nightmare like this. There is no “normal” way to act or talk.
