I would look at the people replacing them at the Olympics. Some People can go to all extreme to get ahead.
Except this isn’t a competition of any sort though

I wonder if there is any knowledge of the Guthrie family owning crypto? I suppose even if not, this demand might be the kidnapper's way to get hard-to-trace money.

I am going back to my post earlier today that linked to a repository of crypto "attacks". Here is a presentation by Jameson Loop on it. This is for crypto investors to remind them of their physical safety - "wrench attacks" means a physical attack when many are only concerned about online security/safety.

1. Most cases don't get reported
2. 2025 was on track to be the largest year for attacks
3. Rings of people were responsible for multiple attacks in France
4. Most of these knew their attacker
5. Success rate of these attacks? Among 230, he has catalogued -criminals are successful 2/3 of the time., Of these, only 3% end in murder. Often pose as LE.

Github list: GitHub - jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks: A list of known attacks against Bitcoin / crypto asset owning entities that occurred in meatspace.

Physical Violence In Crypto - GLOK Stats Dashboard Stats on type of attacks

Decided to take a look at crypto kidnappings. Sharing this article mainly for the GitHub link contained within that has an extensive database of crypto related crimes- including kidnapping/ransoms. From what I see though, somehow it’s known the victims or family of victims have large amounts of crypto.

For real? I'm no expert but that doesn't sound like pro kidnapper protocol at all. It sounds half-baked and flaky.
There were several reports from several stations and I may have the specifics wrong since one of the below says
"the demand is in the millions paid in Bitcoin by Thursday with a deadline that the money must be received by Monday."
but a lot of the reports have been scrubbed clean.

Here is one
Here is another from Vinnie Politan Court TV which may have come from the same source

All could be bogus, so take it with a grain of salt, but that would explain running out of time.

I keep checking in for updates and she still hasn't been found yet. This is not good. I'm hoping she is found alive soon. There is still hope.

Wonder if the activity at Nancy's house was to distract media so the video could be recorded in peace at Annie's house??

Respectfully disagree. I don't feel that law enforcement would hand out reasonable doubt to any potential defense attorney like that. If there wasn't a compelling basis to make this public plea, I don't think they would do it. Just too risky.

I also don't think they'd put out a hail Mary like that in the case that they were lost. I'm sure they are confident that the ransom demand is legitimate and likely from the abductor. Whether they think she is actually alive or not is another question altogether.

JMO.
I think they just don't have enough information to verify the veracity of those notes, and are playing it safe. You cannot afford to be wrong in a situation like this.

They might be just credible enough that they just aren't sure.

As for the latter part, I do not believe that they believe she is alive.

Who was supposed to be taking her to church on Sunday? Shouldn’t it have been that person to be the first to find out Nancy was missing when they came to pick her up and she was gone? It sounds like her friends who were already at church were the ones who sounded the alarm first when she didn’t show up for church.

Has the reward offered risen from $2500.00? Disbelief over that one.

Between reports of police having shown the letter to Savannah, hostage negotiatiors at the house, and now the video they made, I really wonder if it actually is an obsessed fan and they made a demand for savannah to make a video. Man this is so weird and heartbreaking

moo
Agree, that may be another reason why Savannah was the one reading the message, along with some other possible reasons as well (her background, etc.). Possibly the FBI and the family were trying to cover all their bases.

You make a valid point. Each of us here has followed true crime for a long time. Yet, everything in this case is something that none of us has witnessed before. It's difficult to figure it out because it just doesn't make sense.
I think the current narrative doesn't make sense to us because maybe it's fundamentally not true in some way, or even in several ways.

There's calculus there. You raise the reward, you run the risk of a bunch of absolutely useless tips pouring in.

The family isn't going to do something law enforcement is advising them not to do.

In my observation, the reward will stay rather low until the case loses media attention. Then there will be an announcement of a increase, to keep the story active because an increase gives reporters something new to report.

In this case, it's not needed. It's top story.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed> It's calculated. Most likely the kidnapper is male. Statistically a man would most likely feel more empathy if a woman is speaking to them. Everyone has a mom. The brother speaking might not be effective.

And that video tonight just sent this case into the stratosphere.

Alternately, if she only tuned in online, she could have been faithful in that regard. I've seen services livestreamed with open comments at some churches. Perhaps she didn't sign in, and at the end of the service, her noted absence was reported.

How ever it happened, thank goodness for the swift discovery --

It isn't a competition in an Olympic Sports sense, however, it sure could be a great career boost.
The one replacing SG has an exceptional career; in sports and reporting on the Olympics.

I didn't; realize it was SG speaking.
It looks just like her. There’s nothing different about her except that she has no makeup.

The fact that this video exists, indicates to me that law enforcement is lost. If they felt they were close to figuring out who is responsible, this would not be necessary.

Going further, if this was that particular family member who has had suspicion cast upon him, they aren't in this spot right now. This crime was sloppy, with (apparent) forced entry and blood inside and outside the home.

Blood gets on clothes. It gets in cars. Phones talk. So does surveillance.

The longer this goes on, the more likely I believe that the offender is not inside Nancy's circle.
Yeah. MOO, if it was a family member LE would be able to discern it somewhat quickly ... sure they could damage the cameras at Nancy's, but cameras in their own neighborhood likely would've captured them leaving their home in the middle of the night.

Maybe they're still working on it, but just saying that LE would be able to pin it down and figure it out relatively fast.

But someone related to one of Nancy's employees or someone that once did a job for her, something along those lines, or even someone random ... harder to pin down. Who knows though, my opinion only.

Just to clarify - the family did not offered this reward. It is offered by 88-CRIME and is the limit of what they are allowed to offer. My understanding is that they are a non-profit group that gathers tips and turns them over to LE. It is not surprising that they have a low limit of what they can offer as a reward.
