I think it depends on how smart someone is.

If you send me bitcoin and it gets deposited into an online wallet, yep, I am going to get caught. Because I am not a criminal and my personal information is already connected to that wallet, I am not trying to hide it.

BUT, there is ways to hide it still. If I have a cold storage and it's not connected to a wallet, apparently I can deposit into a 'mixed' transaction, then pull it out into a new address and it would be impossible to trace at that point.

I was able to google this information with the knowledge I already have of bitcoin, which is not a lot, but enough to know to ask the right questions to find out how to do it ;)

The FBI has not been able to connect the bitcoin address to anyone according to the press conference today and well.. they haven't arrested anyone. They have had 3-4 days. It is not connected to anything online that requires KYC, which requires verification of the person holding the account. IMO

Meh, it doesn’t have to be someone they knew. Her mother was widely known by her viewers, they had recently (October) done a segment in Tucson with her mother and sister, could be a stalker, could be a random person who got a bad idea. So it’s not that someone would have to realize Nancy had a rich daughter, but instead that Savannah had a beloved mother in Tucson named Nancy. From there it’s not hard to find her.
numerous appearances on her Today show...well known to her audience.

What do I have to do to STOP posters from making political posts? Tell me. I'll do it.
Wash your car.
Clean your house.
Sing you a love song?
PLEASE, I AM BEGGING YOU. DO NOT MAKE A POLITICAL POST. THAT INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
REMARKS ABOUT THE PRESIDENT
REMARKS ABOUT ICE
REMARKS ABOUT THE ELECTIONS.
THANK YOU.
I'd be willing to help moderate political posts if you also give me permission to crack down on the dog posts. 🤣

As the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, enters its fifth day, some focus has shifted to the purported ransom notes multiple media outlets have received. The FBI said Thursday that a person behind an alleged imposter ransom note has been arrested. KTLA's Lindsey Pena reports on Feb. 5, 2026.

Investigators believe the missing mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie is “still out there,” but they have not identified any suspects.

JMO, but the ransom note with verified bitcoin account info can only mean 2 things. Either it is a scammer completely unrelated to the disappearance trying to take advantage of the situation and get some free money into their bitcoin account. Or it is someone the family knows, who realizes there is a rich daughter worth millions and decided to kidnap NG to get that daughter to pay up. They may not have realized this would blow up nationally the way this has. Now they are scared and probably know they are being watched. Hence no further follow up on the ransom note.
The only thing is that they sent the ransom notes to TMZ and other media outlets. Which isn't exactly a quiet way to not get attention. And it sounds like they just asked for bitcoin and gave no other way to "get in touch." So now the family can only use the media to "reach" whoever it may be, which just puts so many more extra eyes on this. I guess if this is legit, they just want money deposited and the family is supposed to hope for the best that NG would be released unharmed.

It still annoys me a little bit that TMZ would declare live, "WE GOT A RANSOM NOTE!!!" instead of handing it over and letting authorities first decide how they wanted to engage with it. But, it is the times we live in I guess. And ultimately the family did decide to use the media to say they are ready to talk. It may be the only action option they feel they can actually do and have some agency, so I guess why wouldn't they at least try.

This whole thing and Savannah's instagram videos just feel so surreal, like out of a movie.

I saw on CNN that the ransom letter had a specific information on the location of the apple watch that only the perpetrator would know. that seems to make it credible to me. Also the letter stated that you will have no way of contacting me. I am just wondering if they should just pay the ransom and hope for the best?
if it were my mother and LE deemed the letter to have value I would pay some of it and hope for the best. Try that first. That is assuming I have the assets that SG has.

Can we add the Epstein/Savannah conspiracy crap to that list?

I think that is what the ransomer is hoping. He probably doesn't want to risk additional contact and hopes they will just go ahead and pay it out of desperation as the time runs out.

Next person who asks why the dog (or any dog in any case) didn’t bark gets a lifetime ban

Good question. Perhaps she was coerced away from the house prior to an event to cause an irregular heartbeat?

i've seen questions about if she even made it home after the party or whether she was alive when taken from home. i don't know anything about pacemakers (there's been some good info in here about them, but i can't go back and find it), but i assume whether her heart was still working or not would be indicated on the pacemaker app on her phone before it disconnected. does it make sense that that's why LE seems to be approaching this as if she's still alive, or at least they know she was right after she left her home?

also she was living there for decades with no problems
Wonder if there were any calls to the police at that address in the last two years? Even a minor theft or trespass? I don't know how to do a search in that area. Any locals know how to check?

This neighbor is just reporting this now??
Exactly! The FBI and LE have been available in NG's neighborhood multiple times, and surely a neighbor could relay important information then. Or she could call the FBI Tip line.

Sheriff says Nancy Guthrie’s family has been very cooperative and the sheriff wants that relationship to continue as the investigation moves forward, and “sometimes people can be mean” and “potentially ruin that for us.”

Is he referring to the SIL?
I took it that he was talking about the public speculation about the SIL.

according to google SG has a NW of 40m with annual salary of 8m, it's reported the ransom is in the millions. She has the money, the criminals in this case seem to be somewhat sophisticated not bumblings idiots. I say pay the ransom, the criminals will eventually be caught either way, so the downside of paying the ransom does not seem high.

If this whole thing is actually true, this person is not going to allow NG to give any form of info to ID this schmuck. Very dangerous situation, I don't think it would matter if they pay the whole thing or 1/2. IMO
