AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

If she was indeed killed before leaving the home or if this was the main goal, I just don't see a motive for anyone aside from family.
I tend to agree with you, but if this was a case of SA and/or murder, leaving her body behind would mean leaving DNA evidence behind (DNA under finger nails etc.)

exactly....lots of assumptions about old people here.
right!? like thinking she needed to be taken in to the house and settled or tucked in to bed.

This is what Brian Entin said yesterday on Megyn Kelly... he doesn't really know. But he did say his producers asked church itself and they said Nancy switched to online mass after COVID.

MK: Two other quick questions. The Daily Mail today is reporting that Nancy Guthrie did not attend a church in person and that she hadn't been for years since the COVID pandemic. That instead she'd been participating in the live stream into this church. And then they had one source at the church who told them that the church for the record is not saying that on the record.

Um but they're saying there'd be no way for anybody to know who is participating in the live stream. It's not it's not like a thing where you can see who's joining um you know people live stream in or they don't. Now that would be a material change from the story that the sheriff told which was that somebody at church noticed Nancy wasn't there. She was a religious churchgoer and um that that person called the family out of concern. Have you heard anything on this either way?

BE: So, the church near her house that we went to, the pastor told uh my producer the same thing that the Daily
Mail is reporting that she switched to online after COVID and was didn't come to church on Sundays. I just assumed
maybe she also went to a different church. Um that that was just my first assumption that maybe we had the wrong
church or that she had switched in the last couple of months or maybe, you know, sometimes people go to like a
couple churches. Maybe she goes online to that one sometimes and likes a different one too some Sundays. Um, so I
didn't read into it like the sheriff definitely had the wrong story. I just thought, gosh, maybe there's another church we don't know about.
Thanks for sharing this. So maybe she wasn't at an in-person church service after all. And we've been told that her regular church, which I'm pretty sure is St. Andrew's Presbyterian, does a livestream in which parishioners can't see who else is on (and maybe the church can't either).

So this definitely raises the question of who or what triggered the initial search. I do wonder -- could the church also have had some sort of online Zoom meeting after the livestream where her absence might've been noted? Something like a Bible study group? But that's just speculation on my part.

I get a text alert on my phone anytime the garage door is open or closed. Also, I can open and close the door remotely using the app. So there are tons of ways to track the door going up and down :-)
I apparently live in the dark ages, lol. Thanks to all who clued me in.

If kidnap/ransom is the play here, and the method and location of ransom delivery is electronic and TMZ, respectively, and bitcoin is the means of payment, then it would seemingly have to be someone incredibly confident - and obviously brash - with their computer skills. And fairly young. Perhaps a disillusioned incel type with an overly grandiose sense of (online) self, obsessed with the sound bite culture and material world, and trolls 4Chan, Reddit, and the like for his "sick burn" dopamine hits.

the only thing about people like that is- do they watch the Today Show and pay attention to what SG 's salary is and watch features with her mom? I would say usually no, so did they live nearby? want to be a broadcaster and fail? have some contact with NG? Plus I just do not think a cyber criminal's first thought is B&E and kidnap an elder... maybe two or more people- one has cyber hacking experience or thinks he does and one has some experience with elders?

Ok, so let's say her source is correct. Then what is her purpose of releasing this information to the public, besides her own personal gain? It is not helping to find NG at all. In full disclosure, I have a deep disdain for "gotcha" reporting and Dateline type programming. It feels predatory to me. The pretending to care deeply about the family, etc. Nah. I ain't buying it. It's all about the $$$. 🤑🤑🤑
important to note that AB herself said the wording from the source was verbatim "brother in law may be a suspect" MAY. so the source didn't say yeah we're totally zeroing in on this guy, but moreso there's possibly something there that we need to investigate.

'possibly a suspect' is different than 'he's a primary suspect' IMO

To confirm that it was Nancy’s blood they would need a sample from one of the children?

What does an elderly woman have in her home that a thief would want? Cash?
How much cash do people keep at home these days?
It's a $1M dollar home, so I imagine a lot of nice stuff. Artwork? Antiques? Jewelry?

I’m interested in your ideas. Your post piqued my interest, got me thinking.

Perhaps TC and his bandmate friend were helping Nancy with some errands or tasks at home. Example:Nancy witnessed the bandmate with a large quantity of drugs in the trunk of car.

They were not sure if it registered with Nancy what she saw, if she might tell someone.
So the bandmate hatched and carried out the plan. TC was not involved with the abduction, but maybe knew about the drugs.
All just ideas…
M just an underlying feeling that this seems a bit contrived and created. The ransom element is just odd to me personally.

I just have an underlying feeling that this all seems a bit contrived, created. The ransom element seems very odd to me in this situation. Yes Savannah is definitely rich, but in terms of real wealth she’s actually small potatoes. This “kidnapper” has had the ability and skill to plan a capture of NG and keep her hidden while also simultaneously communicating with a television station (TMZ)? All that planning, skill and ability and you choose NG as your victim? It all feels very odd in my opinion. Thats as much as I’ll elaborate right now:)

I wonder who was responsible for making sure the Nest Camera Subscription was paid. Not likely Nancy. Probably just an oversight. Maybe not.
My mom paid her bills up to the day she died at 97. Is there any indication Nancy wasn't paying her own bills?

Ok, to be fair. My Mom literally lives down the street from me. Sometimes I call or text her and she doesn't answer, which is ODD. I will call her cell, call her house... maybe give her a few minutes (maybe she is in the shower? maybe in the bathroom and didn't take phone lol ) I will give her some time, but after about 30 minutes or so, yep, I would go over to make sure everything was okay. My timeline would be very similar.

We don't know if something like this has happened before, where she doesn't answer right away but does after 10-15 minutes or so.

There also seems to be some question about someone calling the family. Do we have confirmation of this? It was not in the timeline from LE yesterday.
i called my mom every day. also, my mom and i shared location.... which is how i knew she was in the hospital.... i texted and asked her if i had forgotten a doctor's appt when I saw that (i'm across the country) :(

if i called and she didn't answer.... the first thing that i would do would be to check her location...... but that was our dynamic.....

They may have done that, but more likely they grabbed her hairbrush or toothbrush or something.

Interestingly enough, while watching the national evening news shortly after the announcement of NG's abduction, one of the first things I heard a journalist divulge was SG's salary which I thought was wildly out of left field. Of course the journalist probably had developed their own opinion that it was a kidnap for randsom.

I have Blink floodlights wired into my house. They have cameras. Not sure if Nest has these available. Not even sure if the ones shown are Nest or even have cameras at all. But if they do have cameras, and they were referenced in the alleged ransom note, I wonder how they come into play? The "horror movie" hyperbole in me fears something like the perp posing in a Guy Fawkes or other type of mask and referencing it in the letter. Ugh. I sure hope that's not the case.

In this link they state that the note expresses that "this will be the only contact".

Presumably the crooks know FBI are standing by to trace any communication, and will rely on public pressure to encourage the family to pay. (If big if the note is real!)

This is why it might have been better for the FBI not to reveal the deadline. Now we are all waiting and watching alongside the family.

Kind of surprising no one has started a go fxxx me. Altho I guess FBI would have to look pretty closely at whoever did that!

ETA the actual link 🙄 https://edition.cnn.com/us/live-news/savannah-guthrie-missing-mother-investigation-02-05-26
wonder if making this whole thing public has helped or hindered the investigation. has it just made the perpetrators more paranoid and careful?

She lived there for some 40 years and bought the house in the 5 figures. $1m today is just the appreciation over time.

his wording in the presser yesterday was interesting. he said "as far as the ransom letter(s), the FBI is handling that" the implication being, from my interpretation, that the ransom letters and Nancy's disappearance are two separate things...

moo
It's possible that the person who sent the ransom note is unrelated and they just took what they saw as an opportunity to maybe make some fast money. I did think that they said the note had some specifics about the home or the situation but I could be wrong about that.

How the heck did he get her number? Everyone has cell phones it isn't like the old days when you could get peoples home phone numbers, man I am old.
I feel ya. I had to explain phone books to my granddaughter the other night.
