the only thing about people like that is- do they watch the Today Show and pay attention to what SG 's salary is and watch features with her mom? I would say usually no, so did they live nearby? want to be a broadcaster and fail? have some contact with NG? Plus I just do not think a cyber criminal's first thought is B&E and kidnap an elder... maybe two or more people- one has cyber hacking experience or thinks he does and one has some experience with elders?
Interestingly enough, while watching the national evening news shortly after the announcement of NG's abduction, one of the first things I heard a journalist divulge was SG's salary which I thought was wildly out of left field. Of course the journalist probably had developed their own opinion that it was a kidnap for randsom.

I have Blink floodlights wired into my house. They have cameras. Not sure if Nest has these available. Not even sure if the ones shown are Nest or even have cameras at all. But if they do have cameras, and they were referenced in the alleged ransom note, I wonder how they come into play? The "horror movie" hyperbole in me fears something like the perp posing in a Guy Fawkes or other type of mask and referencing it in the letter. Ugh. I sure hope that's not the case.

In this link they state that the note expresses that "this will be the only contact".

Presumably the crooks know FBI are standing by to trace any communication, and will rely on public pressure to encourage the family to pay. (If big if the note is real!)

This is why it might have been better for the FBI not to reveal the deadline. Now we are all waiting and watching alongside the family.

Kind of surprising no one has started a go fxxx me. Altho I guess FBI would have to look pretty closely at whoever did that!

ETA the actual link 🙄 https://edition.cnn.com/us/live-news/savannah-guthrie-missing-mother-investigation-02-05-26
wonder if making this whole thing public has helped or hindered the investigation. has it just made the perpetrators more paranoid and careful?

It's a $1M dollar home, so I imagine a lot of nice stuff. Artwork? Antiques? Jewelry?
She lived there for some 40 years and bought the house in the 5 figures. $1m today is just the appreciation over time.

his wording in the presser yesterday was interesting. he said "as far as the ransom letter(s), the FBI is handling that" the implication being, from my interpretation, that the ransom letters and Nancy's disappearance are two separate things...

moo
It's possible that the person who sent the ransom note is unrelated and they just took what they saw as an opportunity to maybe make some fast money. I did think that they said the note had some specifics about the home or the situation but I could be wrong about that.

How the heck did he get her number? Everyone has cell phones it isn't like the old days when you could get peoples home phone numbers, man I am old.
I feel ya. I had to explain phone books to my granddaughter the other night.

If the ransom note is a hoax from someone not connected to the kidnapping at all, and, as Levin believes, from someone from Tucson, it could be from someone who is somehow loosely connected to the family/their associates and has heard gossip about what was found in the house. I'm personally leaning towards it being an opportunistic hoax, and I was assuming that details about the watch and the broken floodlight were gleaned from media and videos of the outside of the house. But if the description of the watch location was more specific than what has been talked about publicly (on the charger) or what could be somewhat safely assumed (by the bed, bedside table, or generally in the bedroom), then maybe there's some inside info involved.
If you believe the second ransom is a hoax, what was the motive for removing NG from her home?

I wonder if tempers flared. She was hit and killed and they panicked and decided to make it look like a kidnapping. This may turn out to be a really stupid plot on behalf of the person. You would think that they would have at least attempted to make it look like a robbery.

Why wasn’t the son-in-law part of the family’s video message? That, to me, looks really strange. It sticks out. It would have helped in making him look less guilty.
Savannah's husband wasn't either. It was her three children, which makes sense to me. Now, if her husband was included and Annie's was not, well that would definitely look bad for him.

Struck me as odd too but brushed it off for two reasons.

If their mother is alive, the kidnappers would surely show her this video. This may be the last time Nancy hears anything from her children and they wanted to speak directly to her and show her how much they love her.

This is a cry for help, they are asking their mother directly to communicate to these kidnappers "we will do whatever you want us to do to get our mother home." They know how smart their mother is.

Mom if you can, help us here.

I also took it as a plea for her to be strong and keep staying alive so they can bring her home.

i seriously don't get the impressing that NG is loaded..... i don't know what she did as a job to raise her kids once she was widowed.... but i've not seen anything that leads me to believe she's rich.

her home is valued at a million BUT it was apparently purchased for $85,000 YEARS ago based on posts early in the thread.

do i can't see where HER money is the motivation for ransom.....
I am doubting the kidnap story but if and that's a big if it is a kidnap/ransom situation, the ransom demand isn't necessarily for Her money. It could mean any money her family can use, ie., Savannah.

Nancy might have forgotten to pay the Nest cam subscription. Sometimes, It’s hard to think of all the accounts as an older person. Just a thought.
I also think it could be a belief that she lived in a safe area where a serious crime was believed to be low risk. Therefore there may have been the belief that there was no need to pay for a subscription that would likely only record mundane daily things.

I pay for a Ring camera subscription for my mom’s house but I didn’t do it in the beginning for the same reason I stated above. I originally thought just having the alerts sent to my phone would be good enough but I changed my mind after I woke up one morning and saw that I had missed an alert for activity at her door during the night. It is likely that it was an animal on her front porch, but I’ll never know and that’s why I decided it was worth paying for the subscription just in case I missed an alert or in case something happened and I would need to go back and review the video.

I was just joking the other day with my daughter that when my mom eventually dies and we have her funeral I am going to include multiple short clips of her arm/hand reaching out the door into the mailbox. She does it every day like clock-work and it makes me think of “The Thing” from the Adams’ Family. Some people do lovely poster boards and photo/video displays of loved ones but I guess we’re just a little bit twisted and would laugh at this.

CADY...you make a valid point. However, people fear disclosure. A death certificate is not required to drain a senior citizen's bank account. Imagine being accused of "financial abuse of an elder" if said individuals had financial sway/POA or were authorized signer on her bank accounts. I had a case in which my elderly client's son and wife took $25K out of their Mother's account. The sister found out and threatened to turn them into the police if they did not immediately return the funds.
Yes someone getting POA right before the abduction would be a big red flag. It would obviously be a motive. But sometimes people think they are smarter than LE.

That's an interesting point and I wondered that myself. My siblings and I have been married for so many years, I'd want all the spouses there around us for support.

Oh Lord, I’m crying.

I’m still in Florida dealing with parents and don’t have time to catch up until much later, but came here to the latest post and SO MUCH WANTED to see some good news.

Nothing new certainly seems ominous.

Where are you, Nancy Guthrie????????

Watch the video in my comment I posted just above yours. TMZ seems convinced it is legit, and I bet they see a lot of fake stuff coming through.
