it is mind boggling that she didn't pay the subscription for the cameras. These were Google nest associated with ADT. I have ring cameras so maybe a little different setup, but you still have to pay some type of subscription to store the videoI am curious about who was set up w/ the alerts as well. I'm assuming it was to her phone, but it could have even been to her daughters (my elderly neighbors kids set up ring cams for their parents who have health issues and they get the alerts and can see their parents come and go etc).
If the skell removed the Ring cam physically (the Nest cams were reported to be "disabled" or destroyed) it could still be transmitting in a bag or pocket and even a shift in movement could push a "person detected". I've moved Ring battery Floodlight cams live from one spot to another and this can happen.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much sophistication on both ends; meaning NG house was a casual homeowner basic installed system (two brands, Ring and Nest, no subscription/cloud --it's $99!, no real serious effort) and the "kidnappers" seemed to be amateur hour as well.
