IMO a random, unknown bad guy, didn’t have access to NG vehicle.
nope this will likely end up being committed by someone close to the victim it seems

If this is the case why are they towing the car from Nancy's home?
I'm lost.
From Google:

Forensic automobile searches and driving history analyses leverage data from a vehicle’s onboard computer (Event Data Recorder/Black Box), infotainment systems, and state records to reconstruct events, locate individuals, and investigate accidents. Experts can extract GPS, speed, braking, and phone usage, while
MVR Online or TransUnion provide official driving records.
Key Aspects of Vehicle Digital Forensics
  • Event Data Recorders (EDR/Black Box):These systems record critical data, including speed, braking activity, steering angle, and seatbelt usage for a few seconds before and after an accident.
  • Infotainment & GPS Data: Modern cars store navigation history, frequently visited locations, connected device data, and phone call logs.
  • Advanced Data Extraction: Techniques like in-system programming (ISP) and "chip-off" (removing memory chips) can be used to recover data if the system is damaged or encrypted.

because one thing has nothing to do with the other. Harvey/TMZ is going off an email and choosing to believe the info in it is legit--which it may not turn out to not be true at all. No one knows what is really what yet.

I want this to be a successful ransom received, victim released but it doesn’t make sense to me. Why wouldn’t they leave a ransom note in the house for her family to find when they check on her? Tell them to not contact the police and pay the ransom and then it’s done with no publicity? The ransom note doesn’t sound like it’s some type of “manifesto” that the writer would want media attention for…if someone is all business, a professional criminal, why would they wait days and then send the ransom to news stations? Is the name of the game in ransom not discretion?

Speculating a few reasons...
but maybe a suspected worker around the home has borrowed the car before and there may be prints in or on the car.

maybe there were prints left on the car by the perp from walking in the garage to look for a tool or rope.

could have GPS data to see if Nancy had left the home earlier and not told family about her whereabouts.

I’m hopelessly and helplessly a million pages behind and won’t be able to catch up until I get back to New York ( if the plane isn’t canceled due to weather).

I saw this post though as I am hurrying through. I agree it seems like a strange thing to say in this context of literal real life and death.

I wonder if perhaps, in the ransom note which we have not read, maybe Savannah was instructed by the kidnappers to say this? Some kind of coded language that is supposed to be a message back to the kidnappers?

Just speculating.
No one really knows. It could have been a coded reference to the kidnappers. Or, one thought was that when filming the movie Silence of the Lambs where that line was from, the FBI was heavily consulted on that script. So maybe advised on the movie to say that, and now advised the Guthrie family to say the same thing. Or did someone use AI to help compose a response and it came up with that because it pulls from scripts, pop culture, written things already out there, etc. SG did seem to look up very specifically when she said that line, in a way that stood out. The sister did a big inhale of breath at that part. (But that was also right before the sister started speaking, so the sister may have just been taking a deep breath to gear up to read her part.)

I'm about to vent a spleen here.

If this car is in any way connected to her disappearance, Sheriff should go ahead and put in his papers for retirement.

I'm no math whiz, but that crime scene has been held and released X3 already, by my last count.

I can hear the defense's claims of evidence being planted ringing in my ears already.

JMO.
The sheriff's investigation and particularly his press conferences have been rightly criticized. He even said at times that he wished he handled some stuff differently. The FBI should have taken over earlier.

IMO this is a weird case cause the "kidnapping" was weird and sloppy and so has been the police investigation..

Live feed. On the roof, Front and Back yard. Showing searchers with flashlights other areas. 45 minutes, not an hour. No one else covered this.
Do you have any thoughts on what appeared to be blankets laying across the bench?

SBM

Maybe they didn’t leave a written note due to potential fingerprints or DNA?

Hard to grapple with the fact this could be some sort of more “normal” crime by someone NG knew, and this whole ransom angle could be bunk. We could have an unknown true predator, a smart ransom scammer, and a dumb ransom scammer (arrested). It doesn’t sit well with me that there seemingly (to our knowledge and not implied by KOLD) hasn’t been any transmission of “something only Nancy would know” as means of sharing proof of life in text form only…
Was Just thinking this exact thing-
3 separate events!?😳 The first ransom note was not delivered until Monday evening I think… after news that she was taken Sunday. Could it be a horrible crime against Nancy occurred, then a separate, opportunistic ransom demand? Then rounding out this mess: the idiot scammer. Poor Nancy. Whatever happened to her is a thing of nightmares.

I think well written could actually be a good clue if these are real ransom letters. IMO, well written implies good grammar and proper punctuation.

This could mean a few things:
1. English is difficult to learn as a second language unless you started young because we structure our sentences differently than other languages. They would be able to tell if English was a second language pretty easily.
2. They could determine age range of writer. Younger millennials and Gen Z write completely different than other generations because they grew up with a computer in their house. They’re more likely to use shorthand and acronyms.
3. They could determine education level based on how well written letters are. (Their, there, they’re).
4. They can determine region of origin in the US based on differences in how we refer to certain things (casita vs guest house/ sidewalk vs walkway/ highway vs. freeway, etc.).

They most likely have already developed a profile of who they think they’re looking for based on how these ransom letters are written if they believe they are in fact real.
Also spacing could be a clue. I learned to type on a typewriter and have had to unlearn putting two spaces after a period. I’m early 50s…

I’m early 40s and also still put 2 spaces after a full stop in anything I type. Not on WS but in my day to day work.
