He spoke to Savannah and then surged resources to the area, this was likely done prior to law enforcement having a clear picture of what happened.
So you would expect him to be receiving regular briefings, as he wants to show results.
If it's some random dude or group, I wouldn't expect a statement like what we heard to day.
I don't disagree entirely, but I'm confident those resources would've dwindled substantially by now (or packed up entirely) if the feds didn't suspect that the kidnapping/ransom demand was legitimate. The FBI only preempts jurisdiction if the kidnapping/ransom demands are real and they are born from an IP that is out of state or out of country. Sure, they can assist local and state LE if asked, but if they eventually concluded that the SIL was the likely perpetrator they'd have probably left by now.
And I think I even saw Senator Kelly in casual clothes at the Sheriff's department. Yes, it could be that he's just there for a popular case about a popular family in his state of Arizona, but normally these kinds of things get the obligatory "thoughts and prayers" tweet from a handler in DC and then on to the next matter of Senate business.
