If not money, what is the motive for them doing this, in your opinion.
I wonder how much time and energy they were investing in her care?

Door 1 or me too.
So we either have:

1) someone in the family, most likely SIL and/or Annie motivated by some kind of financial gain that they hoped to gain from her passing, and the ransom stuff is just someone trying to capitalize on the situation. Or I suppose the responsible family member(s) could have orchestrated the ransom hoax as a distraction.

2) an actual professional kidnapper who has experience doing this and saw NG as a good target (at least in part because SG wealth).

3) someone not in the inner circle, but someone who is familiar with NG and her house and was in her extended circle somehow. Either a lawn guy, an electrician, a pool guy, etc. that knew who she was, knew who her daughter was, and hatched some half baked plan to either rob her, kidnap her, murder her, etc and then sloppily executed it. The motive here would be money as well in the form of ransom.

4) some deranged politically motivated person who disagreed with SG or felt slighted by SG somehow and was interpreting her on TV from his basement and decided to lash out in this way. Similar to a politically motivated mass shooter or incel type.

5) I hesitate to even write this, but a sexually motivated rapist, murderer, kidnapper who saw her, stalker her and executed a plan on her that night. You wouldn’t think that this would happen to an 84 yo but sadly it does.

Taking everything we know currently into account, I would rank them 1,3,4,2,5.

What say you, WS?
Definitely not 2. A professional kidnapper would not think NG was a good target and would not wait 3 days after kidnapping to request a ransom.

I just want to take a minute and apologize to all elders and NG. I have seen reference to “tucking in” so many times. I am the one who originally mentioned tucking my 86 year old mom into bed at night and locking her house up when I left. She didn’t want anyone overnight yet. But as I said, my mom was sick and her hospice days were weeks in the future. I literally helped her get in bed, fixed her sheets and blankets, removed her glasses and kissed her cheek. It was as much for me as it was for her. She died a few weeks later. I certainly did not mean to offend so many and wish I’d never used those words. NG did not need tucking in and I never meant to imply that.
Awe, that is very sweet. I too tucked in my 64 year old dad the last 30 days before he died, and then I had 90 year old independent grandparents who just passed on and never needed care. It all depends. Its sad when we cant share our own perspectives without being blasted!! Hope everyone can understand we've all had our unique perspectives that shape our opinions and at the end of day, we all want to share our thoughts to maybe give a shred of thought that might help somehow lead to this lady's return!!

Yup
However, here's a thing I posted a few days ago which has bugged me

Why did NG take an uber to dinner that fateful Sat night?
Hunh - who makes an 84 yr old do that?
Even if she wanted to, I wouldn't let my 84 yr old mom to take an uber.
You might just have the one in a thousand weirdo driver be her driver
Just me I guess

And then she's driven home by the daughter and/or SIL
Which kinda proves my point
I wouldn't assume anyone would make her, and maybe she wanted to. My parents are close to 90-I can't make them do anything, or not let them do anything. A lot of people say things like this but IMO reality is a lot different for many people.

When Isabel Celis went missing here, The parents, mainly the father, was blasted as being suspects. Everyone thought for sure it was the father. I remember people who were close to the parents telling me, "Oh it has to be him," And these were people who were supposedly his friends. He had to leave his job, and was ostracized here. Then come to find out years later, it was some sick person with no connection to the family. So when I start thinking of a suspect, I think of that. I dont know what they have or have not on the SIL, but for some reason, I dont think he did this. I could be totally wrong, but i feel like the family knows that doing something like this would cause it to be national news because of who the daughter is. And NG has been on the show with her daughter.
I think this is really important. When we make, or repeat, accusations against someone that end up being incorrect, what damages have we caused that person? What was the benefit to making, or repeating, the accusation? Many will hide behind the, "just discussing true crime" excuse but at the end of the day, we have to take responsibility for making an innocent person's (if they are innocent) life a little worse for our own entertainment.

This is what I remember. And even on this site, people were foaming at the mouth pointing at the dad, esp since DCS was involved at one point. It was so painful....so horrifying to see everything play out like that.

I read somewhere that LE confirmed DNA from blood was NG. My question is: have they revealed if any other DNA was retrieved? Just because they didn't speak on it, wouldn't necessarily mean they don't another sample, right?

Since it is extremely cold in my part of the country, I have been housebound. I should be catching up on housework, but this tragedy is just too compelling. So I have a kind of stream-of-consciousness thought process going on. I watched the Olympics opening ceremony last night and the commentators talked about how much SG loved hosting the Olympics and how much they all missed her. I was thinking that probably many more people would be watching the Olympics than would see SG on the "Today Show." What if someone wanted to punish SG? Let's say someone asked her for a sizable loan and she refused. Keeping her from hosting the Olympics could be revenge. It seems so very coincidental that the abduction of her dear mother should happen on the eve of SG's career-high gig. Just a random thought. Edited to add: just saw some similar thinking a few pages back.

There is a driveway that leads to the right side of the house where the garage is. Like most homes you can drive right up to the garage door. Nancy could have been let out of the car right near the garage door. She would then only need to walk a little ways to get inside of her garage, turn around and wave her SIL off, and then close the door. This taking a couple to a handful of minutes to achieve is doable.

I really cannot imagine dropping off an 84 year old lady in front of the garage in the dark and then waving her off as you drove off.

My experience would be to get out of the car, open the car door for her, and firstly making sure she got into the house OK (that single garage step can be a really doozy if you are a bit fragile. Then making sure the lights in the house are on and everything is OK before leaving, taking care to make sure she locks the garage door and the front door before leaving.

If I was driving a mobility-impaired friend or family member home, I would have them remotely open the garage door while still seated in the car, then I would pull in to the garage, assuming there is room (if her car is parked inside) -- maybe I would even back in, if that gets her passenger door closer to the house door while still leaving maneuvering room.

Unless, of course, the passenger requested I do otherwise. MOO

I think this is very caring and loving, no apology needed. I can relate with you very much, my mom is no longer here and I took very good care of her too.

After some googling, I'm shocked to find out that there are multiple such ATMs in town.
I would imagine one cannot withdraw X million from such an ATM and also it would not be anonymous, but I don't know for sure.

And... (speculating that NG's car might have been captured outside of NG's property) if NG drove her car home, opening her garage at 9:48 pm to drive her car in, why did she uber to dinner? Why was her car not available at 5 pm? And if NG drove her car, why did the police say family dropped her off?

The unanswered question -- was NG's car driven at any point that day/night? It's a fair question because LE seized it.
