Well, by entering through the garage door, NG wouldn’t have had to bring her keys with her earlier. One less thing on her person/in her purse.
Then how'd she get the garage door open?
Auto Garage door opener?
Easier to carry a key.

EDIT Someone above said keypad.
Yikes
That doesn't seem secure

That broken floodlight has been removed. Forensics?

I couldn’t throw a rock and hit that light to save my soul. Get a ladder and try to dismantle it instead.

Or add it to the profile: excellent throwing skills, great aim. Ball player?

Most garage doors installed in the past 15ish years have a keypad that can open the door.

My theory. Speculation only.

Persons close to Nancy Guthrie who were in dire financial difficulties concocted a hare-brained and desperate plan to hire pro criminals to kidnap her, forcing a wealthy relative to pay the ransom.

They were assured the old lady would be treated well and merely spend a couple of days watching TV in Mexico until the ransom was paid.

Instead, the kidnappers botched the job and Nancy lost her life during the abduction.

The kidnappers continue to issue demands, despite no longer having her alive, and the people who hired them are left holding the bag.

Nancy will likely never be seen or found again.

The trick would be to get her across the US border into Mexico.

A US passport or passport card is needed if she was a visible passenger. There would be cameras and video that LE could retrieve.

Risky, though. US CPB have the authority to examine vehicles crossing into Mexico, looking for cash, guns, etc. and a white panel van would probably at least be opened. If it was a passenger car, then she could have been in the trunk. All scenarios pretty horrible to think about.

There are 3 border crossings that would be reasonable from Tucson:

Nogales, MAJOR border crossing, 70 miles from Tucson, 1 hour 10 minute drive
Naco, very minor border crossing, 108 miles from Tucson, 2 hour drive
Douglas, very minor border crossing, 123 miles from Tucson, 2 hour 15 minute drive.

Of course, at ~ 3 am, there would be far less road and border traffic. I think this idea of crossing into Mexico is certainly worth pursing.

Of note, there is a Border Fence along the US/ Mexico border in Arizona, but the tall Border Wall has not yet been completed in remote parts, especially the San Rafael Valley area. I get the feeling the border is "leaky" there and someone with local knowledge would be able to identify areas where a hostage could be taken across a small, remote border breach.

I also thought that SIL couldn't do it physically without wife's knowing because they live together and he needs an alibi, she would notice that he wasn't at home

There were 2 locks visible in the video's of the front door. That looked to me like a screen door and I'm guessing here that there is a steel door behind that one with a minimum of 1 lock, possibly 2 (door handle and a dead bolt). Unlocking 4 locks takes time. The garage was the easier way.

While unlocking 4 locks would take time, it could be possible that the front door knobs and deadbolts on the entry and security door used the same key.

It also could be possible that the door knobs and deadbolts on the front and back entry doors and security doors used the same key, and the entry door from inside the garage to inside the house had the same key as well.

So in other words rather than using a bunch of keys to open door locks all around the house, a single key can be used instead.

If an older person wants to maintain independence and can't drive much anymore, taking an Uber to your daughter's house is a very good way to "practice" taking an Uber. In this case, it's a short distance, it was light out, and you're expected. I would think an older person might need a few "easy" rides before venturing out to appointments and social engagements on their own. And very responsible for the family to drive her back in darkness and later at night.
It would be interesting to know if this was one of her first times using Uber, or if she regularly made a habit of it, and if so, how often she took one to her daughter's house.

He's saying the perpetrator has a connection to KOLD news station. I'm not familiar with local news in the US - is there any connection between this station and SG / Today show?

He also said that IHO (in his opinion?!) the perp's connection to SG came through his being local, eg someone who knows of NG and that she lives in a big house and has a famous daughter, rather than that SG is the target. Nancy is the target. MOO.

Harvey Levin did an interview with Mark Geragos an A Lister defense attorney. He knows how these guys think. He said family just needs to pay the ransom and hope for the best...without proof of life. I tend to agree. Otherwise nothing may happen at all...NG is killed and the kidnappers may never be found. She might be dead but I don't think they have much choice.

Depends if you hit it with your fists, a brick or a baseball bat i guess
Is it too high off the ground to hit with your fists? Would you need a ladder?
Would a thrown rock be heavy enough to cause this damage?
A baseball bat might work?

And do we (i.e. - You all) know if she actually ever made it into the house after being "dropped off"?

rsbm.

AFAIK there is zero independent confirmation that she ever made it back to her house. Period.

moo.
It seems her cell phone was found in the house and her pacemaker was connected to her phone until sometime after 2am. There is also her blood outside the front door, which presumably was shed that night. Her being in the house is something I don't really question. Also, I wonder if there is other evidence -- use of a laptop etc -- that places her in the house.

Does anyone know the last sighting of NG outside of Annie and her husband's testimony? I understand the LE has backtracked to not giving specifics about who dropped her off but is the Uber ride to Annie's home still a fact? Im sorry but my focus is on this couple. Allowing your 80+ parent to Uber alone and allowing her to walk in by herself at almost 10pm are both red flags for me. I understand there are elderly ppl who can be independent but if you are there locally wouldn't her child want to make sure she gets in and out the house safely.

Easier to carry a key.
Couple options come to mind:
- an app (I've never seen this but it seems that this is common for newer doors/systems)
- if "family" drove her home in her car after borrowing it, the opener would be in the car
- a keypad (this is what I have - you enter a code to open the door and then close it using the button inside)
- "family" who drove her home had their own opener

I think the app or keypad is most likely, IMO, since she would have needed to close the garage door on her way out to the uber if she left that way.

MOO

Surely she had someone that came in and cleaned. Baseboards are very very difficult to clean when you're not agile....so are blinds, carpets and floors.
Wait…you’re supposed to clean your baseboards? And blinds? Oh.

The border patrol guy in the Brian entin link just posted above also says that this close to the border, even in Arizona, you can obtain prescription medicines easily under the counter.
