Proof of kidnapping isn't enough?
They haven’t provided any proof they have her though. Isn’t that the whole point, no one knows if they are her actual kidnappers?

I read about it. But is it Nanos's fault? Usually it is linked to the money. Where the money went is a valid question, but is it him?
The specialized plane is key to their Rescue Operations in the desert; the financial resources to ensure it is ready 24/7’s would be there. The problem is the two qualified pilots were no longer with Nanos’ department,

The two pilots recently transferred out; I need to find that article that states one was transferred due to a disciplinary action and the second opted to leave on their own.

I forgot the officer’s name, but he ran a campaign against Nanos; to remove him due to conduct as the Sheriff. Currently, the police officers are divided …

There is no proof of kidnapping, much less that this person committed the kidnapping.

We don't have proof of a kidnapping. Observations of the behavior of all concerned parties seem to indicate that there is a consensus among them that this is exactly what happened. And they have the evidence at hand!

We don't have the proof. But it seems like the family might? So much we just don't know.

I'm proud of you for putting this behind you. If you let it fester, it can harm your health and destroy your happiness. This is what I try to tell victims: by continuing to dwell on the tragedy, you are continuing your own pain. For your own sake, I hope you really have put this behind you. Money is the root of all evil, but karma is a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.
“The love of money is the root of all evil…”

To us outsiders maybe, but we have no idea what has been going on with the inside of their circle.

If the FBI can’t confirm the veracity of the communications, there’s really no choice. Better safe than sorry.

Yes, it became high-profile because of SG. Would it make us feel differently on hearing that another elderly person was kidnapped in Wisconsin? No. And I hope newspapers would have the decency of keeping us posted about any old person who was abducted from own house at night.

Also, human sympathy for the children who highly likely, it seems, have lost their only parent, the mom, and in such horrible circumstances, is fully understood and expected.

It is not about Christianity, it is about different cultural traditions. Atheists use this term as well as Protestants. Catholics and Eastern Orthodox mostly do not. In essence, it describes less ritualistic form of the funerals. As funerals tend to become such, maybe the term will spread. (It is not commonly used in Europe). But yes, this is how I understood SG's phrase: that they would need the body for the funerals.

However, I don't know whom SG is addressing, and whoever scripted the text. It has to be explained as the term might be misinterpreted. Likely SG knows that she is addressing Episcopalian Americans. This is how I interpret it.

If not, the term may be totally misunderstood, btw.
My comment was not to post my lack of empathy for the Guthrie families suffering (it is tremendous), but to suggest that the abduction of NG seemed strategically planned regarding the attention it would garner world wide vs a suggested Jane Doe in Wisconsin. <modsnip>

This is disturbing. There are many wealthy single elderly women living alone in the area. Few have security.

In many countries, kidnapping for ransom is pretty common. Not so much in the United States. I hope that this is not going to be a trend. There are a lot of soft targets in the area.

We don't know if the FBI can or can't though? And if they could, would they send out a press release?

We don't even know what was in yesterdays note.

Because the outlets who received them said it was "millions of dollars."

Again, you do not pay someone who will not give you proof of life. That's a key requirement in any negotiation.
Imagine you are any other celebrity with an exposed family member…. If they pay this ransom it may become open-season on relatives. I would be very concerned.

It's hard to keep up. Has this been posted? Savannah says they will pay:
Former CIA and FBI agent opined that the tone this time (the new video released at 4:30 today) is more defeated, includes coded language and may even be negotiating for the return of a body at this point.

I also find the wording very odd and coded and specific...

“We received your message, and we understand.”
“We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

  • It didn't narrow it down too much for me:

  • Technology & Cybersecurity: Software developers, security analysts, and penetration testers use these tools as a standard part of their workflow to test defenses and protect intellectual property.
  • Digital Marketing & Research: SEO professionals, market researchers, and e-commerce teams rely on proxies and privacy tools to collect pricing data and competitive intelligence without being blocked by websites.
  • Journalism & Legal: Investigative journalists and legal counsel use encryption and identity-hiding tools to communicate with sensitive sources and protect client-attorney privilege.
  • Freelance & Gig Economy: Freelance writers, programmers, and consultants(especially in Web3) often use these tools to secure their connections while working from various remote locations.
  • Finance & Compliance: Compliance officers and crypto analysts use these tools to securely navigate global regulatory frameworks and manage blockchain-based transactions.

Just another consideration based on this, its a bit out there but none of us know what has happened so thought I'd just add some other thoughts I've had:

Savannah has gone on to have a very successful career in journalism - she returned to Arizona for the very recent story about her Mum, which clearly showed how very loved and valued her Mum was to her, how close their relationship is.

Did this trigger something in someone who was associated or linked with Savannah when she was living and working in Arizona? Long held jealousy, envy, etc. Maybe someone who wanted her fame but is still working in the Arizona area and doesn't feel they had the same opportunities or rewards that Savannah is now enjoying in her career?

Early life and education

Savannah Clark Guthrie was born on December 27, 1971, in Melbourne, Australia, and was named after her great‑grandmother.[7][8] Her father was stationed in the city for work, and the family lived in the suburb of Beaumaris at the time of her birth.[9] They returned to the United States two years later and settled in Tucson, Arizona.[7] Guthrie did not return to Australia until 2015, while working for Today, describing the visit as a "lifelong dream" of hers.[10] While in Australia, Guthrie and her mother Nancy visited Sydney, as well as the Melbourne hospital where she was born, and the house where they lived in.[11]

After graduating from Amphitheater High School in Tucson,[7][12] Guthrie received a B.A. in journalism from the University of Arizona, graduating laude in 1993. She was a member of the Arizona Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi.[13] She received a juris doctor (J.D.) from Georgetown University Law Center,[14] where she graduated magna laude in 2002. She received the highest score on the Arizona Bar exam in the year she took it, according to Washingtonian magazine.[15]

Career

Guthrie's first job in broadcasting was at KTVM, the NBC affiliate in Butte, Montana; she started in October 1993, but on her 10th day at the station, the local news operation was closed.[16][17][18] She then went to work at ABC affiliate KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri, where she worked for two years before returning to Tucson and a job with NBC affiliate KVOA in 1995. After five years in Arizona, she took a job at WRC-TV, NBC's Owned-and-operated station in Washington, D.C., where she covered major stories, including the September 11 attack on The Pentagon and the 2001 anthrax attacks.[7]
