I wonder if SG has Kidnap & Ransom insurance?

  • #13,342
Yes that is possible. Why do you think he wants videos?

It increases the possibility he will be detected and arrested. The only thing he should want is the money hitting his bank account.

Unless he is sadistic, controlling, attention seeking? Also narcissistic and thinks he can get away with the crime no matter what.
Maybe to see the pain and suffering being inflicted? Very sick minded person.

I got from that... it was decided not to specifically say TC dropped Nancy off in a (useless) attempt to thwart speculation of last person to see her, as opposed to family group being the last to see her.
So an attempt to protect TC from further speculation?

From CNN.

Saturday, January 31

  • Guthrie takes an Uber to her daughter Annie’s home at around 5:32 p.m.
  • Family members take her back home, with Guthrie’s garage door opening at approximately 9:48 p.m. and closing at 9:50 p.m.
Sunday, February 1

  • At 1:47 a.m., a few hours after Guthrie is believed to have returned home, her doorbell camera is disconnected.
  • At 2:12 a.m., surveillance camera software detects movement.
  • Guthrie’s pacemaker app data shows it disconnected from her phone at 2:28 a.m.
  • Relatives check on Guthrie at 11:56 a.m. after finding out she was uncharacteristically absent from church. They discover that she wasn’t home.
  • Relatives call 911 at 12:03 p.m. to report her missing.
  • Pima County Sheriff’s Department patrols arrive at her home by 12:15 p.m.
Tuesday, February 3

  • Several media outlets, including TMZ and CNN affiliate KOLD-TV, receive purported ransom letters demanding millions of dollars in bitcoin for Guthrie’s return. One note includes a first deadline of 5:00 p.m. Thursday and a second deadline for next Monday.
Wednesday, February 4

  • The Guthrie siblings post a video on Instagram with Savannah Guthrie saying they “need to know without a doubt that she’s alive and that you have her.” She emphasizes that her mother is in “constant pain” and needs her medication to survive.
Thursday, February 5

  • The first deadline mentioned in the purported ransom note passes at 5:00 p.m.
  • Savannah Guthrie’s brother Camron issues another plea on social media at 5:00 p.m. local time, the first deadline given in the ransom note. “We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward,” he says in the video.
Friday, February 6

Saturday, February 7

  • Guthrie’s children plead for their mother’s return in a video posted on social media. In the clip, Savannah Guthrie says: “We will pay.”
  • Law enforcement officials are seen at Annie Guthrie’s home. They leave shortly after 10:30 p.m. with a bag. One deputy sheriff is also seen wearing blue latex gloves.
Sunday, February 8

  • Investigators returned to Nancy Guthrie’s home just before 11 a.m. One investigator was seen holding a notepad while walking the property and heading to the backyard.

If that is the case I'm thinking it is,then it also needs to be noted the driver was breaking the law by traveling at such an excessive speed. Reckless driving puts others in harms way. A deliberate act. IIRC he was going over 100 mph and ended up killing four college students. There are always circumstances relevant to the charges....JMOO
Exactly.

No, I looked up who lived in the house they were knocking on today (present and prior). Still lists as their present address but I do not think that is the case. And their profile is on LinkedIn as well as documented large tax liens (since resolved) on the county website. Could just be a random coincidence but it sure got my hamster wheel turning as it raised my eyebrow. That is why I asked earlier if LE was seen going to any other house today. It says it had to do with a trespassing complaint.
They must be so annoyed with the journalists and would be journalists. I don't blame them for calling the cops for someone in their yard.

I wonder if SG has Kidnap & Ransom insurance?
She most likely does, but under NBC's policy. I would imagine it covers anything that happens to her off-air, similar to major entertainment industry figures.

Yeah, maybe AI wrote ransom note. Im just not getting mastermind vibes. Someone who knows anything about moving money knows about bank 10 day holds required. Sounds like his literal first rodeo to me.
Yes that is a problem these days. With AI you cannot get an accurate psych profile from written material. So we are safer looking at the crime scene to assess the perpetrator.

Well the perpetrator so far has not been identified or apprehended. The victim has not been found. So he has not done too badly so far.

And perhaps it was not premeditated so the cover up had to be done on the fly with a tight time line. Victim was killed or died suddenly and the cover up had to be immediate and spur of the moment. This is a tough situation and requires a certain skill set. Ability to work under pressure, exhibiting leadership and taking charge. Good decision making when stressed. Nerves of steel. And even the mistakes may have a logical basis when examined further.

I got thinking about something when I was downstairs cooking myself a pancake. LOL But what if because of Savannah's celebrity status if her and the family aren't working with the suspects on their own (Like as a way to keep it private somewhat) to get Nancy back? Like I know the video was not private but who is to say more contact hasn't been made to the family after last night and we just don't know bc they want to keep it private?

There is also something interesting in terms of what the sheriff said on Monday versus the timeline presented later in the week. He says the family (implying AG and SIL since SG was out of state) got there at 11AM. The slide deck timeline presented later in the week says they called 911 at 12.03PM. That is an hour before the "realized" they needed to call. No accusation here, but the timing is quite interesting. Perhaps sheriff was speaking generally at the earlier conference.
the timeline presented by FBI/LE after intial press conference states they arrived at NG's home 11:56, called 911 at 12:03. This is also the press conference that "a chuch lady called" disappeared from the timelines.

I've wondered all these days if there was such a thing. But I'm guessing the policy would have to include family, not just the named

I think it would be rather odd to pay for ransom insurance unless you are a Vanderbilt or a pop star.

I haven't been following this case really close, but is A.G. a suspect- I read they removed brown bags from her home---I guess I would be shocked if the family was involved

<modsnip- gotta use initials :) >

**Summary of statements made by the Sheriff in the first press conference on Monday 2 February.**

I am posting rough notes to show how the picture looked back then, as I think it might be of interest to a lot of us. Key points in bold. I truly feel the early press conference offers clues:

--------

- NG's home is a crime scene and "we know that"; LE saw things that concerned them; saw things at the site suggesting she did not leave alone. "Circumstances on scene that were suspicious in nature".
- NG suffers from "physical ailments" and needs daily medication; risk of things becoming fatal without access within 24 hours
- NG is of sound mind; nothing dementia related.
- Sheriff appeals for public to call 911 if they have seen anything; quite persistent messaging for information
- The investigation is at a stage where they need to depend on tech, including license plate readers.
- The homicide team was involved at this stage as well as a search and rescue (including drone systems, heat sensors, infra-red).
- "All of the family have been very cooperative with us"
- No comment on forced entry
- Not sure whether it was targeted or random
- Confirmed there were cameras on the property and "we're looking through some of that".
- NG had house staff who come by, but NG otherwise lives alone.
- Does not think there is an active threat to the public
- "Right now, we don't see this as a search mission as much as we do a crime scene"

- Refers to a map on screen that shows the search patterns by LE. Confirmed the map is used by search teams when they need to reassess search areas (i.e. might explain why we saw the map again this weekend).
- They have NG's cellphone and they are looking at it.
- Believes at 9.45PM her "children" left her off. Then later in the morning they got a call from "someone at the church saying your mom's not here". "The family went to the house.. they spent some time looking themselves before calling us; maybe they got there around 11AM". They did some searching and realized they needed some help and called 911.

- Declined to comment on the time NG was taken from the home.

- Told neighbours to go through their Ring cameras.
- Sheriff makes a political statement about the benefits of new technologies.

12:34 - 13:16 is quite interesting.
My big take away from the first Press Conference:
Journalist: Sheriff you mentioned that she didn't just walk out. Is there any additional information that you can give us on what may have alluded to this being a crime scene?
Sheriff
: *sighs* You know, I wish I could. I know that everyone wants to know certain things. But I can't do tha--it...it would be inappropriate at this time

Perhaps her employer provides it? Not unheard of with TV/Movie celebrities.
Maybe this is part of the delay, SG was trying to get that sorted out with her employer?

Same question I keep asking. Why make a video saying they will pay the ransom when they could just quietly pay it?

I think the purpose of the video is to tell the kidnappers they will pay for their mother dead or alive. They want a proper burial.
I think they wanted the ransomers to know that they would pay, even though they might not see it right away. LE was going to do due diligence investigation for as long as reasonably possible. If the ransomers are legit, they shouldn't have a problem with that.

That's a good point, the speeding is a deliberate act, as you said, which implies a certain level of intention... I am not a lawyer, I just like reading legalese lol

IMO

Great catch. "Inappropriate" is a very interesting choice of word. What would be inappropriate about explaining why they deprioritised the case as a search and rescue and deemed it a crime scene?

Did they go in person or send an Uber to check?
