Federal agents arrived in Tucson last week to an icy welcome amid a harrowing search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie.

She was abducted by force from her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood in northern Tucson around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 1, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

Law enforcement sources described a delay in local cooperation with federal investigators — with days going by before they let them into the fold.

I'm not sure either what they are looking for, but I think they keep returning to poke someone or some people. Imagine what it would feel like if the police kept going to your house and it was on national TV. You would feel humiliated. You might do something to get the circus to stop. Maybe admit to something if you did something. At that point it might feel like a relief. Especially if your family was crumbling around you. They are putting the screws on hard.

You can be a suspect and LE still ask for consent to search. You can be a suspect in an armed robbery and LE knock on your door and ask for consent. You say no and they detain you until the warrant is signed. That's pretty common practice.

I can't think of any reason LE would be searching a house, taking pics, and removing items if no one in that house was a suspect. That would be an unreasonable search and its frankly ludicrous a retired FBI agent would say someone isnt a suspect just because a warrant wasnt signed.

Agreed. I know of cases where LE has asked for consent to search, and told the homeowner that they could simply come back with a bench warrant if necessary.

Harvey Levin was clear that the location of the watch wasn’t standard or routine. It wasn’t guessable and it was the location of the watch that piqued the FBI’s interest. (These details can leak, of course.) Things aren’t adding up – this isn’t a regular kidnapping.

Levin has mentioned this in a few interviews in varying detail but here’s one I posted a day or two ago.

I wonder if it was also more specific, like charging on the kitchen counter in the basket next to the yellow canister set or something with that type of detail, not just where but what was around it, details like an unusual color of charging cable, etc. that wouldn’t be easily guessable. MOO.

I actually think the mechanism to fill out an online form anonymously is probably not that difficult, and the anonymous bitcoin wallet is of course not difficult at all..

Agreed about the absence of solid proof. But after this much time and no sign of NG, I think the writer of the notes is more likely to be the person responsible for NG’s disappearance. And that all the media attention, and the distress it’s causing SG could be the goals.

So I looked at the route SIL would have taken from his house to NG's. Most of it is along Orange Grove which, in that area is very residential with walls and the backs of houses facing Orange Grove. I highly doubt there is any camera footage from there. There are no businesses. The route along Oracle from Las Lomitas to Orange Grove would have several businesses that may have had cameras.

Do you have a link to this? Where have you seen the reporters near Grant? That would be pretty far from both Guthries’ houses.

someone else made a point earlier today that it could be for attention from SG. if she had a stalker or someone obsessed with her, maybe they planned this elaborate kidnapping scheme just to ingratiate themselves with SG, get attention from her, and feel like they have control over her. i don't think that's necessarily likely, but it's another motive beyond money.

It's utterly ridiculous that LE has clearly passed on privileged information to Harvey Levin. I don't care if the kidnapper shoved the ransom note up his rear end, it's beyond corrupt for LE to confirm the accuracy of any of that note with him.
