AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Well, I guess that perhaps changes things! Thanks. I have seen mixed things online. Not confirmed either way.

Then if SG said they would pay - what made that change, is perhaps a better question. I think she would pay even just to have a proper funeral. Based on what we saw in the video and just what I would imagine. Unless there's the ethical question of not creating incentive for other abductors.. But putting that all aside, what would make them go back on paying?
Or maybe they did pay in a way that Harvey Levin is unaware of?

I think the Sheriff may have thought initially it was a family member abduction and did not take the kidnapping seriously. He failed to keep the home secured, made numerous trips back to research. Moo
Oh, I understand now, thank you. But what about the part where you said the source of AB may have deliberately misinformed her?

Well, to be fair... he's assuming it hasn't been paid since he has monitored the bitcoin account that was provided in the ransom details. No amount has been transferred to this account. If kidnap for ransom was 'real' there is always the chance that a different bitcoin account had been provided another way. (Personally I think it is despicable that he is broadcasting this info)

My opinion is that today FBI finally confirmed that kidnap for ransom was hoax and provided family with their intel. I believe that lead to Savannah's new message to people which had a very different feel to the previous plea.
That makes a lot of sense.

Which then leads me to the next logical step I think - That the ransomers are NOT the abductors. Following that assumption for the sake of argument, if the ransomers are NOT the abductors, then whoever abducted (or unalived, sigh) NG, was NOT motivated by money OR at least is not anymore.

Who could that be, then? -> Someone who committed the crime for other reasons. I think there is a fairly long list of "other reasons", many we have touched on here.

I just think to me, this would significantly narrow the focus on the type of perp and what/who LE is looking for now.

This is JMO but in the first photos to emerge after her disappearance I saw two small wheel marks going down the (left of the front door as you look) left of the driveway. My immediate thought was did they take her out in a wheelchair that did not roll smoothly due to the gravel.
Interesting. I have wondered if she had a walker, they usually have seats on them and would leave similar tires marks IMO

So who is she speaking to now?

Could be, and if that's the case then my best guess is that SG wouldn't say that on her video post, because the ransomers already know that and there's incentivization issues to worry about, plus not really relevant to tell the public.

But that I think just circles the arc BACK to my original question of, if they paid, where is NG?

  • #16,207
I'm sure this has been discussed, but can one person have multiple bitcoin wallets/accounts? For example, like cash app, only one account per phone number/person. There's probably a way around that but I have no clue.
Just my opinion and curiosity

The public I think. SG seemed completely different to me. She was very composed and had a look of determination. I think it was proven the ransom requests were a hoax. The family didn't pay. And the billboards still went up. JMO

I've been starting to think the past 24 hours or so that the "searches" at the Guthrie homes have just been distractions. For the most part given the proximity and access media/random people have had to the homes. During the time of the searches - who is there, what they are bringing in/taking out, etc. - as well as otherwise. There's no crime tape, that I'm aware of, or anyone making sure the scenes aren't compromised except for private security hired by the Guthries', not LE. To my knowledge, I haven't heard differently
I agree about the searches serving as distractions. I think it’s just “busy work” to give the appearance that local LE is doing due diligence, while the real nuts and bolts of the investigation — the technology and DNA analysis — is being conducted by the FBI. JMO. ETA: I hope I’m wrong about that and the locals solve the case.

Someone posted this AOL news article
in the media thread. Have we debunked the idea that 2 additional teens were sent to NG‘s house?

“Two California teens were arrested in an Arizona home invasion tied to an alleged $66 million cryptocurrency plot that happened the same day Nancy Guthrie was last seen before disappearing from her Tucson home about two hours away.

Authorities have not said if the two cases are connected in any way, but the cases do share some bizarre similarities.

The teens, who are not being identified by Fox News Digital because they are both under the age of 18, allegedly posed as delivery drivers to gain access to the Scottsdale home on Jan. 31, before forcing their way inside and duct-taping and assaulting two homeowners inside.

The teenagers had met recently and were extorted by individuals known only as "Red" and "8," court documents state. They were allegedly sent from California with $1,000 to purchase supplies for disguises, restraints and burglary tools.…”

If she paid it and it wasn't a hoax, I'd hope that we'd have news of a reunion by now.

$6 million and $66 million. Interesting.🤔

The idea of another Bitcoin account is not a bad one. I mean, the FBI confirmed, and still insists, that they haven't been able to locate a suspect from the original one, so why not create another one that threatens anyone who shares it this time?

I’ve been following this case and trying to catch up. The thread is moving super fast and sometimes when I login there’s 10-15! more pages since I was last here. I admittedly haven’t read every post, and wanted to share some of my thoughts/theories. (apologies for the length):

This is a very convoluted case to say the least, with many moving parts. At any rate, based on info that’s been released publicly so far, I don’t think this is a true kidnapping for ransom case.

Yes NG was taken in the middle of the night, however I don’t think she was kidnapped in the true sense nor alive when she was taken/removed from the scene. I don’t think this was perpetrated by a stranger in a botched robbery or home invasion gone wrong. Unfortunately, I think the perpetrator is someone known to NG, either a person(s) inside her close inner circle or on the periphery harmed her intentionally/planned, or accidentally possibly in a rage during a heated disagreement/argument over something (money, perceived slight, and/or etc), removed her deceased body from the scene and hid her, as in, dumped and/or buried her body somewhere. (I really hate typing that). :(

I do not think the ransom notes are legitimate, rather, a hoax by some shady, opportunistic scammer who heard about NG’s disappearance in the news which was instantly splashed across the interwebs and MSM, concocted and implemented an extortion scheme exploiting the situation hoping to capitalize/cash in off the family’s tragedy, which if true, is absolutely infuriating, callous and cruel.

That the ransom note(s) was sent by email, likely encrypted, and first one not sent until a couple days later to TMZ and news station, in addition to SG stating in the first video she posted “we too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media”, I don’t believe SG and/or her siblings received the note(s) directly by email nor that a note was left at the scene that fateful night.

I think the FBI probably know the ransom notes aren’t legit and that parallel investigations are likely being conducted i.e., homicide and cyber crime. Local LE’s likely focus is collecting physical evidence, finding NG’s body and apprehending the perpetrator(s) responsible for eliminating her from existence.
The FBI’s likely focus is on both tracking and analyzing all the digital forensics, and identifying and apprehending the cyber criminal responsible for sending the bogus ransom notes.

It could take the FBI a good amount of time to identify and apprehend the cyber criminal because they are likely using/hiding their identity behind a VPN(s). It’s my understanding per link below, the Feds can identify IP addresses fairly easy, but identifying who the person(s) is is more difficult. It can be done but it takes some time to break through so to speak since a lot of VPN providers don’t like to cooperate with law enforcement, have a “no-logs policy” providing another layer of anonymity making
it more difficult for the Feds having to take extra steps to force the providers cooperation and to hand over the logs. Link provided below for more in depth explanation:

I have faith the case will eventually be solved and arrests made, and I hope and pray Nancy is eventually found. I just don’t think she’ll be found alive unfortunately. Hope I’m wrong and for a miracle but it’s not looking too good, sadly.

Such a heartbreaking case.
This poor family, I feel so bad for them for the agonizing turmoil they’re going through. I’d imagine
it feels torturous. Heartbreaking.

Keeping the Guthrie family in my thoughts and prayers.

All of the above IMHOO

Starting this with stating this is my opinion

I surely hope this doesn't turn out to be a crazy person just trying to torture this family. Somebody jealous or feels was slighted in some way. I think NG was killed the first night and this ransom was just a way to torture this poor family more. Whether it be a family member or not I feel it is somebody the family will know. Sending the ransom note to media outlets just seems so unusual. Has that ever been done before? Not that I can remember but maybe

IMO ONLY
I’ve thought of revenge, as well. Did Savannah get a promotion or position along her career that someone resented? Could it be an old work mate holding a grudge?

The brother was a military pilot. Could it be someone holding a grudge against him? He also did a solo video.

The delay in ransom note, sending to local media and TMZ, multiple long deadlines seems more and more like mental torture to inflict pain.

I do believe NG was killed the first night and the person has a local connection.

Moo…

So who is she speaking to now?

All of America! Please... be on the lookout...

Everyone, anyone... who might see something that seems out of place, suspicious... or... best case scenario - her precious mama.

She has hope of getting their mum back, even tho' the chance of being alive is slim... I felt she has that lil bit of hope back. Compared to the last message to 'kidnappers' that was so defeated.

One of my other habits is scambaiting where we engage with and jerk around scammers while they think they are headed to a payment.

I've been diving into tracing bitcoin payments recently. It is very easy to see which wallets each wallet has interacted with and I'm sure the FBI tracks US wallets and any that interact with them. So I'm pretty sure that bitcoin has been broken in spite of what people think, at least when there is a US connection!

I'm not sure if this is too out there but I've thought perhaps there was a family argument at AG's house that escalated (I'm not sure if there was any history of DV or family tension, I imagine that wouldn't be public knowledge, but we know that was the case with Gabby Petito for example and usually there is a history when it's family violence) and then the "scene" found at NG's home was actually created later as a "cover up". Family would have access and knowledge as to the layout of security, lighting, etc.

I truly can't imagine the motives of a family unaliving or the type of person who could do that, but sadly it does happen. I also wonder if that's the case if it escalated quickly and was an unintentional homicide. Also if NG had heart issues if there could have been an episode. But, I think that would have been easily determined given her pacemaker.

All just speculation/MOO

I replied to an earlier post about a ransom note perhaps being on scene when the family arrived after the phone call from her church partner. And that that could have been the reason why LE knew immediately that something was wrong. And that the Sheriff's "plucked from her bed" comment (or similar) may not have been a haphazard metaphor but rather a Freudian slip. I wonder why LE hasn't released the 911 call? Did the caller claim a ransom note was found, for example? Otherwise I can see no reason not to release it (if it has been requested and denied, which I'm sure some outlets have requested it by now).

JMO.
Moo …The call was released. The daughter listed her health conditions in the call. It’s somewhere at the begin this thread. No mention of a ransom note.
