AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

  • #22,621
The FBI shared these photos, and specifically says they are all from the morning she went missing. Unless the FBI is being intentionally misleading, it's unlikely that they are from a different night or a dry run. They specifically state "the morning of her disappearance."

And these "photos" are simply stills from the video that was recovered.

A caveat for sheriff Nanos, though; What if the fbi advised him to do this and they placed hidden cams to observe what the family did once back inside ?
I think this is very likely. In the Jayme Closs kidnapping case, they ended up arrested an unrelated creep who'd broken into the house to steal her underwear.

Edited to clean up my typo

Last night my friend Strangeworld made the following comment... I was about to reply when my 'net dropped out!

Anyway, unable to comment I thought about it... what if when Feds were geofencing and found Carlos' phone exactly at Ms Guthrie's house. I mean, it could've been day after abduction, Monday morning... the package was noticed sitting out there fairly early on.

With an investigation underway, I don't see how he'd be able to get to front door but even if he handed it to an officer on the driveway, it still puts him effectively on the property... just not early hours Sun morn.

Hiya Dinks!

I think its plausible, if he was delivering parcels in Nancy's area it could explain if his phone registered in the vicinity of her home

Disagree, why would there be a glove on the side of the road? Explain to me how it would get there, specifically relating it to this case.
Take a look when you drive around. There are random clothing items everywhere.

Odd that a glove would be found on side of road...
I just posted that I saw 15 gloves (yes, I count things as I am diagnosed as OCD) by the side of the road in a one mile stretch alongside the parkway near our house.

I assumed they were discarded by workers or perhaps blew off the backs of trucks of lawn maintenance workers.

Took it off to drive away? Threw it out of the car window? MOO

Yes, but a neighbor/friend was supposed to pick her up to bring her to that "group" viewing. And when she didn't answer the door, the neighbor/friend called her family. I'm sorry, I thought that's what you were questioning.

NG being picked up by someone to go to the group church gathering was, iirc, a poster surmising that might be the case.

I’ve not seen that confirmed anywhere.

Do you have a link?

I am leaning towards 'whoever' didn't actually go in the front door. I think they might have tried, and then moved to the back door to gain access to the home.
I’m thinking this as well and then used the front door to take her to a vehicle - they knew the camera was disconnected and could make their exit unseen

Imo

Re: the masked man's clothes - isn't it MORE risky to buy new clothes at a store where he could be seen on camera/there is possibly a credit card trail? I know a lot of LE have been saying on tv that the clothes are important and have helped find perps before, which I know is true, but it seems like it could so easily be impossible to trace. Maybe the perp bought them on eBay or Poshmark, or online in general and had them mailed to a friend or family member (who didn't open the package). Maybe they've had them unopened for years in bottom of their closet (been there). Maybe they were purchased at a thrift store in another country. I just am... doubtful the clothing speculation is super helpful
The clothing could have been bought in a niche store which is only within a certain town this narrows down the area a perp frequents or lives . So clothing speculation is highly important imo

It's really amazing. I'm an avid walker and the things you see can boggle the mind. One time, a bra. And of course, the mind goes to all kinds of dark places with an item like that.

If, as many have speculated, the person on camera was wearing multiple gloves, unsure how helpful this glove will be. Any thoughts? Also seems odd to dispose of it so relatively close to the scene. Wonder how they knew to look at roadsides. Is that typical?
If they tossed it, there could be trace DNA on it even if they double gloved - say if they handled the outer gloves directly. Could be a tiny hair transferred from the inner glove to the outer, maybe they sucked their fingers, maybe they wrote their address inside...

Who could say one random glove is different from another - it's all litter until it isn't.

Me thinks if you're sending out teams to comb gutters for gloves after 11 days, this ain't looking too good as per leads.

Don't know the circumstances here, but I'd personally opt some rando trash can vs. just tossing it in the open.

I sure hope this is the real deal (!!!); however, one time my husband and I walked along the parkway near our house and in the space of a mile I counted 15 gloves on the side of the road, among other things. I was amazed that there were many gloves in such a short distance.
Was it during Covid lockdowns by chance? Good grief it was masks and gloves just all over the place in the area I worked at that time.

Where things stand

• Day 11 of the search: Arizona law enforcement officials say they’ve received more than 4,000 calls in the past 24 hours regarding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. The calls came after the FBI released doorbell camera footage yesterday from Guthrie’s front door taken the morning she disappeared.

• Detained person speaks out: A man who said he was detained yesterday for questioning and later released says he wants to clear his name. A search warrant connected to man’s property is sealed.

• New letter: TMZ reported it received a “bizarre letter” via email this morning from someone purporting to know who Guthrie’s kidnapper is and demanding a single Bitcoin in exchange for the information. The email was handed over to the FBI, the media outlet said.

And wasn't the back door open when family got there? I need to look that up --- but I am pretty sure I saw that. With the blood on the front porch, I assume they for sure went out that the front.

I agree that could be true! But I also think, per my original post, it's JUST as likely not from a local store or even recently purchased. I just wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket. I do hope LE is looking into it as part of the investigation for sure though

Brian did ask the MIL her SIL's name and she blurted out her SIL's full name. She kind of said the last name quickly and (from the clips I saw), Brian did not actually ask how do you spell that. I think if she had just said the first name, he may not have asked for a last name. In the interview with the guy himself, Brian said he just wants to go by his first name. MIL was flustered and rambling. I thought he was actually pretty respectful toward her. I think he's pretty earnest and does a nice job of coverage.

I felt bad for the family. The adrenaline and shock and fear. I think they spoke freely because they had nothing to hide. They looked like people feeling like is this for real?? Seriously?? Rather than smooth or coy. What a mess.

And I get why someone called in a tip. The guy's basic eye spacing, lips, mustache fall into the ok, hmmm. Then add in what I think was a white vehicle and he does deliveries in Tucson, and yeah, someone likely called in exactly the kind of tip LE wants to hear. It was just a mess from there. Also, the guy clearly having no idea, immediately offers up something like, "I don't know her but I may have delivered something to her." Which on its face sounds like wait what, whoa. But sounds more like him trying to figure out how who the hell this lady was and why they were asking him.

I think he was in stunned shock, adrenaline, and that it was all surreal. One minute you're doing a door dash delivery, the next you have the FBI pulling you over for one of the biggest kidnapping cases in decades and reporters putting microphones in your faces.

I hope they pay for the freaking door to be fixed. But if he was the bad guy, we would have all been glad they barged on in. Tough night.
It was all so distressing wasn't it. The MIL was clearly in a state of shock - I think going back a step, BE should have made the decision at that point to avoid the temptation of getting the interview and just backing away. Or if she really was wanting to just talk to someone, they should have turned the camera off.

There's times when there's a story and this just wasn't one of them IMO

People throw evidence out of their vehicles all the time. If the perpetrator is leaving the scene they may no longer feel the need to wear the glove and want to get rid of evidence so out the window it goes. Generally speaking people throw trash out the windows of vehicles without ever giving it a second thought, imo this is no different. Likely nothing in this case but you never know.

You are correct

Nancy Guthrie was expected at friend’s home, not church on day she vanished

Sure, but someone who just kidnapped a lady isnt going to be throwing evidence out their window...

Kidnapping though? That seems personal.

At the risk of sounding cold, why would you bother moving an 84-year old lady when it's easier to NOT move her? It just adds risk and work.
Agreed. And now no more ransom messages? If he ransom was not legit, maybe they are getting cold feet. If the ransom was legit, no idea where this is going.
