I also think that, but they did not look professional for sure. Criminals make mistake most of the time or they would never get caught. Some spray paint or tape to put over the camera would have been an easy fix.
As prepared as "Lantana Man" appeared to be (mask(s), gloves...), I too wondered why they wouldn't have been prepared for camera by having a piece of tape - but then it dawned on me how tape can be traced and could easily have fingerprints on them, so maybe that's why no tape was used??? JMO

A grip for what? Because of the gloves? That could be an option. It just seems like if it was family they already knew what they needed to do so more than likely would have come prepared for the removal of the camera. I just find the pulling up of the lantana to be a strange move in any theory.
Think he needed something light in color to get camera to react..he might have thought his glove was too dark? Hard to really know what he was thinking but that's one theory

If the person in the Nest footage is someone close to NG, I would think they would have come better prepared to deal with the front door camera than pulling flowers out of the ground. But who knows. Such bizarre behavior.
Perhaps the guy had been told the cameras had been disabled and he then realised they weren't.
Maybe they knew Nancy had not renewed her subscription and thought that meant the cameras would be switched off.

And his mouth would be open all the time so saliva could just drool out. I wonder if they have looked on the floors for that? Would be hard to find once dried.
If this is an actual flashlight that is held inside the mouth - I guess knowing what jobs a person would typically use this is in more frequently would be a good place to start and were those workers recently at or near the house? Anyone can buy it, but someone who uses this type of light regularly in say their job would be comfortable using it and likely have it on hand..as this person seemed.

Maybe someone who knows the perp and wants him found but does not want their ID known threw those gloves out to be found. Far fetched I know. Just a thought. Everything about this case is strange.

Good point. Defense attorneys would have a field day though. IMO
It all depends on what evidence is ultimately recovered. Finding a burner phone that was around the location and clothes with her blood on it in someone’s trash that also knows her and has motive to do this would be less problematic than, say, relying solely on DNA from a random glove.

In a shocking turn of events, the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has taken a dramatic shift following the emergence of new surveillance footage from her home.

This evidence has transformed what was once a cold case into an active manhunt, revealing a suspect who approached her residence with alarming calmness and precision.

The footage, captured by a residential security system, shows the individual moving deliberately while evading detection from cameras, suggesting a familiarity with the neighborhood.
As forensic analysts dissect the video, they uncover critical details about the suspect's physical characteristics and behavior, leading investigators to believe that this abduction may not have been a premeditated crime but rather an opportunistic act.

The FBI has launched an extensive search for the suspect, focusing on the unique features of their clothing, footwear, and even a metallic glint seen in the video.
With a $50,000 reward now offered for information, the community is on high alert as authorities work tirelessly to piece together the suspect's identity and whereabouts.

As the investigation intensifies, the psychological profile of the perpetrator is being refined, revealing a potentially dangerous individual who blends into the background of everyday life.
The clock is ticking, and the urgency to locate Nancy Guthrie alive grows with each passing moment.

Hesitating to post as I’m so far behind (I went to sleep and am now approximately 3,000 posts behind!) so apologies in advance if I should know this: Do we know the reason for the request for nearby camera footage from a date of a couple of weeks ago?
TIA!

Why would the “clean up guy” try to enter by breaking in through the front door instead of going in through the same door as the kidnapper? I swear some of yall need to think your theories through before posting… up next we’ll hear someone’s epiphany about how they’re certain that NG was a drug kingpin, killed by a rival cartel so that they could take over her routes.

Because the inaccessible camera on the back yard roof would record them taking NG out of her home?

Because the front door was closer to the drive where they planned to take her out to a vehicle?

Because, IF that’s a second guy, he was, as suggested on this thread by a poster, trying to ring the doorbell to alert first guy he was out there and the door not opened for him as expected and now he is having to wrestle with a camera still functioning.

Of course I have no idea and neither does anyone else.

Everyone, posting within WS TOS, is welcome to spitball, talk out loud, express themselves with those not interested or with no conversational contribution on the expressed thoughts to scroll and roll by that post.

Making fun of others posters isn’t necessary and not very Websleuths-y, imo.

All imo

I am leaning towards 'whoever' didn't actually go in the front door. I think they might have tried, and then moved to the back door to gain access to the home.
I think that's quite possible. The video released is very short, probably to keep from releasing much actual information. The camera and bluetooth activity goes on for around 40 minutes. And we have no idea yet how many people were there that night. We only know what has been shown to us. The back lights were not out for nothing and nothing has been released that would tell us how LE believes they entered the house. MOO

What truly baffles me is that in all the footage I've watched and all the articles I've read, I see almost no mention of detection or cadaver dogs. They are so close to the border and have access to the best dogs available. Have I missed something?

I'm interested to know if any of Nancy's debit/credit cards were missing from her home. It is possible that someone decided to kidnap her to take her to withdraw money from any of her accounts but she was injured possibly killed in the process.
Then when the case went national this individual decided to write the ransom letter to get money that way.

I'm assuming you are speaking about this:

Authorities are asking residents near Nancy Guthrie’s home to check their security camera footage from two days in January as they piece together “a new timeline” in the case, according an alert posted on the Neighbor App by Ring.

Investigators are looking for footage from:

January 11 between 9 p.m. and midnight, more than two weeks before the 84-year-old went missing, and January 31 between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., flagging a suspicious vehicle in the area around 10 a.m., according to the alert.

He clearly tried to use the plant to block the view of the camera, stupidly so. He first tried with the side of his curled hand to no avail (can't work with one hand) then pulled the plant. We are not shown all of the video. Backpack already full with the outdoor cameras within his reach on the eaves of the house, and his cleaning supplies, tools. He was a "fixer", his job was to clean up the mess and signs of struggle. IMO NG was already harmed inside (punched maybe) and bleeding. She was carried out the door, bled on the porch and walkway, and loaded into a vehicle. They did not take her out of the garage because of the bright motion light inside on the garage opener and motion lights mounted outside the garage. They are not brilliant, but if he was a "fixer" they were there for a kidnapping. He is calm, but also somewhat awkward and nervy. MOO

Ah, hold up!! So, the first walk up was a test to see if motion sensors light came on. His nonlinear concern was the data being livestreamed, or saved to a cloud server. He knew he was going to take off the device and take it with him as a just in case measure. He had no idea of that tidbit that even with wifi down, his video was still uploaded and even without service. Now, maybe this makes more sense. He was going the technology route of thinking the wifi was all that mattered! Thoughts??
I like your analysis. So this could imply that the person has some telecoms/I.T. expertise possibly, or can one glean this off the internet?

This. I posted earlier that the gloves resembled ones that Tattoo artists use, they look like black nitrile gloves being worn over thicker gloves, IMO. Mechanics also use them frequently. Just doing a little research, they are not found in that color in many places outside of Home Depot, Menards, or ordering them online. It just seems to me that unless they were seeking those specific gloves out, it maybe something that they had a personal supply of already due to a line of work they are in.

Has anyone considered NG may have been unconscious when taken, perhaps from a fall, stsruggle, run, or hit with the perps inside her home? That she has been unconscious or in a coma since? Maybe she's in unconventional care somewhere in Mexico?

The slouchy lazy demeanor of the perp on cam reminds me of a teenager being told to do something and he is doing the bare minimum. Probably too lazy to remove backpack to put tape over the camera. when he grabs the plant he looks to his left to see if anyone is watching. Maybe he realized how dumb that was and didn’t want the accomplices noticing. He also touched his gun to make sure it didn’t fall out after he bent over. I bet he dropped it multiple times in the past and wears it in the front so he does not lose it.

Looks to be a date range up to the actual day of the incident. I mean I would be surprised that they haven't already requested footage for the period before if someone broke into the home and then the morning after until the scene was secured. If someone broke in footage from before will show any unusual activity in the neighborhood, people around the home in the preceding weeks that may not have been considered etc. It is good information to have and I would think this has bene or is already being reviewed. ETA: they should also be looking for workers in the neighborhood/at her house using bitegrip flashlights or who would be comfortable using this..The guy in the video seemed comfortable with his and certain professionals I believe use these more often (e.g. technicians, HVAC etc)
