I definitely don't think you're off base. I don't believe this was a stalker, mentally unstable Savannah fan or random crime. Whoever did this had some peripheral connection to Nancy.

For context, I live in a pretty well off area. Everyone in my cul-de-sac uses the same landscaper. Any suspicious cars are reported immediately. We all know who our 'regulars' are in terms of service workers. Circling back to Nancy, I find it hard to believe some random would be able to lurk on her street, unnoticed, enough times to get a feel for her living situation. Million dollar neighborhoods simply don't work like that.

She was put on the radar by someone who had been to that house, or someone in her orbit who may have unwittingly revealed information to some nefarious people. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my words, but that's the feeling I'm getting.
Same. Someone in her orbit either on a regular basis or even for a home service related issue who got a feel for the. layout of the home. Saw pictures of SG. Made the connection mentally. Someone detail oriented or even predatory asking her I hope you have camera's living out here alone in the dark. She may have innocently pointed out - oh yes, camera's inside and out. Then a plan was hatched.

A new theory surrounding Nancy Guthrie's abduction points to an inside job, according to reports.

RadarOnline.com can reveal insiders close to the case believe the 84-year-old's captors would be familiar with the inside of the 84-year-old's $1million home, given interior cameras were allegedly smashed during her kidnapping.

The cameras were installed by Nancy's family, including her Today anchor daughter Savannah, for their elderly mom's safety, especially if she suffered a fall.

But the abductor knew where they were situated, prompting a belief they may have been familiar with the security setup – first reported by journalist Ashleigh Banfield – inside the home.

A source said, "The signs point to an inside job. Cameras that were smashed inside the home were there to protect their mother.

"Only a very few people have access to them — they were installed to make sure nothing happened to their mom, like if she fell when home alone.
These cameras were likely VISIBLE—not hidden in toy dolls or bric-a-brac so yes—they could be seen and smashed—
Once again “Ashleigh Banfield’s” strikes…
So many of these articles aren’t offering anything new or really important. They are just feeding off the need to chum the news cycle IMO.

Article written by a US reporter. "WILKO MARTÍNEZ-CACHERO, US REPORTER"

I would venture to say that many/most Aussies don't know who Savannah Guthrie is, let alone her mother Nancy.

imo
I think with the internet as it is this case is worldwide, I am in England and our news both online and off is full of the NG story,

I think it depends on the fate of her mother. If her mother is found alive, the sunny Savannah morning show TV host works just fine, provided her closest family are cleared.

If her mother doesn't make it and/or family members are found to be involved, regardless of Savannah being able to show up and act the part, I think the audience would actually struggle with this.

Don't underestimate SG. If she has to take a more serious posture, she could easily re-focus on a less sunny role. I think she continues to succeed regardless, if she wants to work.

I think the notion of someone having her mother harmed to try to get her spot is special.
I could see Savannah doing programs like Tamron Hall starting doing after the murder of her sister.

Savannah is a warm and bubbly tv personality and I hope she returns to the Today Show.

Prayers for Nancy's return.

Of course, most of the media just repeats worldwide media. We have this case being published in our conglomerate media. I don't know how much it is being read, because US news media personalities are not well known here.

My point was, that DM article was not told by an Aussie. Just a correction to an assumption.

Nancy Guthrie disappearance: Sheriff says no arrests, none remain in custody after major operation

FBI and local authorities conducted a major operation in connection to the Nancy Guthrie case, as at least three people were detained and a vehicle was hauled off. The 84-year-old mother of NBC "Today" host Savannah Guthrie has been missing for two weeks.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • A Pima County SWAT team and the FBI executed a search warrant at a Tucson-area residence late Friday approximately two miles from Nancy Guthrie's home. At least three people were reportedly detained in connection to the operation, but none have been confirmed as suspects in Guthrie's disappearance.
  • Local authorities and FBI detained a man following a traffic stop in a Culver's restaurant parking lot in Tucson in connection to the warrant served on the nearby home, sources told Fox News Digital. A gray Range Rover was searched and towed from the parking lot.
  • The FBI released a description of the suspect seen in a mask and gloves tampering with the doorbell camera in front of Nancy Guthrie's home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1 around the time she went missing. The suspect is described as a male between 5'9” - 5'10” tall, with an average build and was seen carrying a 25-liter "Ozark Trail Hiker Pack" backpack

  • The FBI increased its reward to $100,000 for information leading to the location of Nancy Guthrie or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. The search entered the two-week mark on Saturday, and authorities have yet to publicly name any suspects or persons of interest.

Agree and there's been no confirmation of the condition of any interior cameras.

Besides the house a few days ago & last night, have other search warrants been issued? For example, was Annie’s home searched with a warrant or just searched with permission? (Not implying, I just don’t know the answer to this) I’ve decided to go back to my original thoughts.(and most likely MANY peoples’s original thoughts).
IMO, She was taken by someone whom she knows or by someone hired by someone she knows. She isn’t far. Her medicine is with her & this blew up bigger than expected & now they are stuck. I’m sticking with this. They say the majority of crime happens because of money, sex, or drugs. I’ve eliminated 2 of those in this case. This was intended to be easy peasy, get the $ and run, not kill her etc. and now they don’t know what to do. I wish the media & circus of people would just go home. It might give the captors the breathing room to let her go.

I think it was a stranger and a targeted abduction. I think this guy as he walks towards the entrance turns his head in case there was a motion sensing light. When he realized there wasnt a motion sensing light he proceeds to disable the camera. He probably didn’t understand the different kinds of home surveillance cameras and felt the pitch black darkness would mask his identity even with a camera in his face. If a light came on he would have been out of there.

I think this guy lives nearby by himself. Perhaps in an apartment building. He probably has a seasonal job like construction or is a contractor that allows him to go a good while without being missed by an employer.

What the motive was for the abduction is anybody’s guess. Could be retribution. Maybe political.

The time spent on the property after the camera was disabled is probably the perpetrator creeping to his break in point. Then breaking in depending on the method used, then he has to clear rooms and navigate through a house he’s unfamiliar with. Then he restrains NG, takes her out to his vehicle. Goes back inside and retraces his steps to make sure he didn’t leave anything behind not realizing he left some dna.

For all we know he’s already dead and nobody knows because again, he’s a loner and currently not working.

there has been little to no confirmation of many of the facts of the case, and when facts do get released the Sheriff or other LE muddy the waters, such as who drove NG home, it moved from her son in law to "family" by the next press conference, we still do not know exactly how he got into her home, we do not know anything about the condition inside her home, we do not know how ambulatory she was and how far she could have walked, we do not know if there were cameras in her home,

considering how long she has been missing the lack of actual factual information is minute

I do not know all her health complications. Still, from my husband’s health I can say, you CAN survive at least a month without meds (maybe longer) with a pacemaker. Keeping hope alive.
Agree. I can’t tell you how many of my pharmacy customers are not compliant with their medication. They can go weeks without realizing they’re out of refills. Going without is risky but not the end. Don’t give up hope.

The positioning of holster is odd, but maybe not. I have heard talking heads on CNN and Fox stating it shows someone unfamiliar with gun holstering. That could be, but it is unique. Certainly displaying it in that way is bold and anyone watching their camera would immediately call 911. I think that is important.
Sometimes when a thing is odd…it is dilberate.

A source said, "The signs point to an inside job. Cameras that were smashed inside the home were there to protect their mother.

"Only a very few people have access to them — they were installed to make sure nothing happened to their mom, like if she fell when home alone.

I find this interesting because it gives confirmation of
1) inside cameras
2) the family specifically monitoring NG (or at least that was the intent)
3) access to people (which is more that most in a home where only the homeowner has access).

Now, if these were set up by the family surely they were recording. Were they a separate system from the Nest? All home wifi systems and more elaborate CCTV now use cloud based recording. Why in this context would that not be available (it would not make sense otherwise to monitor their mom in case of falls, they need to access the footage, they are not watching 24/7).

Now the huge advantage of cloud based recordings (as opposed to back in the day when a skell would smash and grab a local dvr during the crime) is that you will record the person disabling the system and have it on your cloud/push alert even if the camera is disabled (just like the doorbell cam). So what happened here? And with the approach angles to inside cameras you'd probably have some better footage as the cameras were being disabled (and again why smashed, just spray and disconnect them, again amateur approach).

edit: conjecture based on veracity of the article which we can't confirm I suppose

Hi I'm new but have been lurking for over a week.

First, thank you to Tricia for pausing the thread, cleaning it out and restating the importance of the rules which differentiate Websleuths from Reddit and fb IMO (which is why I'm here and not there).

My question: I know the people detained have been released but what about the car LE had towed? Has it been released to it's owner or does LE still have it for testing?

Also I'll be forever grateful to whoever can tell me what "db" or "dbm" means at this site! I think I've figured out the other abbr. Thanks!
For you and all the many new members and guests following this case: here is a list of shorthand and abbreviations frequently used on this site. Hope it helps!

I don't even want to imagine that 🫣
New Ring video's are popping up so much now from that neighbourhood that i'm actually don't want to keep checking them as it just creeps me out too much, even being from the other side of the world!

The guy in the first two sections of this Ring video looks like the guy who is seen in another Ring video crouching in an arched white entryway. To me, he (or they if they are different in the two Ring videos) look(s) taller and skinnier than the masked guy in NG's entryway. (He's also not wearing a mask.)

The last section of this Ring video appears to show a different guy trying to see if he can open the driver's side of someone's car. At least, he is dressed very differently.

Is it 100% confirmed that there was a white van connection to those who were detained last night?

If so, that would mean two operations now and two white vans related to the homes they targeted. Don't want to make any assumptions completely, but it feels like right now they are heavily weighing any tips involving white vans in the area.
