I can think of a reason which though horrible and far fetched is, with what we know at present, still within the realms of possibility. Jmo

Stressing it is just a theory and relies on many assumptions. It is statistically unlikely. I really don't want to upset or offend anyone and for that reason I've hesitated for a long time to express these thoughts.

Premises/Assumptions to this theory:

*Ransom notes unrelated

* Evidence of crime scene inside the house. By that I mean signs of a possible struggle ( disturbed bedding, maybe some things knocked over). Afaik there is no public info regarding the state of the interior including NG's room.

* Perp came prepared and with intent to harm NG.

*Perp is dressed in such a way (per the door cam) for two reasons
a) to minimise shedding his DNA anywhere inside or outside the premises
b) to avoid being identified by cameras or night owl eye witnesses.

* NG's connection to SG is probably unrelated. Perp is motivated by his own inner drives.

This theory is that perp is one sick sob. Sick but calculated. The intent was SA. He carried that out, easily overpowering his victim. Weopen could have been used for compliance and as a show of power.

He took NG with him afterwards because he knows about dna. Leaving her would ultimately mean his eventual capture and with IGG being what it is, that would not be very long.

I don't believe this is true and I don't want to believe it. It's statistically very unlikely. Plus it requires the assumptions listed. But it offers an explanation for why a very sick but calculating and cautious perp would take NG from the house dead or alive.

I don’t believe that if an SA took place it would have been in the home. He would have needed to remove at least his gloves and perhaps other clothing to do so, plus, possibly body fluids leading to his dna being found. FWIW, I don’t believe (at the moment) that the stranger dna is related to this crime. Simply because I don’t think this is his first foray into breaking into other people’s property.

You are more charitable than me. I saw the comments as a mirror into the soul of the person who made them. The only thoughts he has is about himself. How dare he say he is exhausted,what about all the officers working for hours in the heat What about Nancy's family. I bet they haven't slept much .He did not look exhausted at the game he had time to attend.
How very unaware can someone be to say a missing 84 year old woman might not be found for months or years. Even if that could be the case, how absolutely callous to say that in public. Where is the hope and strength and message that he and his officers are doing everything they can do to bring Nancy back to her family as soon as they can.

I too found his comments frankly shocking. I am left wondering what the Guthrie family thinks when they hear him say those things.

My thoughts. someone wanted the will changed. May have initially tried in an amicable way earlier. Something went wrong. Lots of staging afterwards. Ransom not related, just opportunistic.

From earlier posts it was established that there is a trust in place. I would take that to mean that any will being changed would also mean that the Trust needs to be changed. IMO, the longer this goes on, the less likely it is to do with money, especially if Nancy has not been found.

Besides them having a reason why he hasn’t been cleared, would there be another reason why they wouldn’t share it? If so, what would the reason(s) be? TIA

Maybe it started as a home invasion and then once they saw who Nancy was related to (SG) by family pictures, etc they thought they could kidnap her and hold her for a bigger $$$ bitcoin ransom. This seems so unorganized to me, yet we have no arrests yet. Soon I think and hope.

Preplanned home invasion, yes, my opinion. I believe they are very familiar with Nancy and her home. I’m not a criminal and have no clue what their thought process is, but am curious to know how they would be acting right now? Glued to the TV watching the news etc.? Taking time off unexpectedly to get out of town? I sure hope someone who can recognize the Lantana man contacts LE soon and if they know of anyone else is/might be involved.

I keep asking myself why was Nancy removed from her home? Why not just leave her there? Was it because she could identify the suspect(s)? This is what I think, but trying to understand what would be other reasons.

Possibly -

- Perp(s) was trying to target empty homes for burglary,
- no response to doorbell alert (maybe Nancy didn't hear it in her sleep),
- thought removing doorbell camera would stop the phone alerts/recording,
- removed Nancy because she would call for help by phone or by going to a neighbor, before they could get far enough away from the house, and they had no idea how many phones were in the home.
- wore disguise because the perp probably has a criminal record, and knew the pre-camera removal video would be accessible, and in case homeowner remotely called the police before successful entry was made.
- waved the flowers to try to cover the camera tampering and make it appear as if foliage moving in wind caused the alert
- didn't kill her in the home to delay/hamper investigation, ballistics, DNA on cartridge casings etc

When the sheriff said it might take years, it makes me wonder if he said it to throw off someone to think they’re not close to finding them, but instead they’re very close.

I don’t think that makes the family feel better with what they are left to “assume”. I hope you are correct though. That would be awesome to bring her home today.

This is exactly what Tricia has warned posters about. By you saying "your understanding ..." without providing a valid source is you spreading false rumors here and trying to justify your post with "your understanding". Also, you referencing "your understanding" back to others who have not provided sources is also jamming up this thread with wrong information and unnecessary reading/writing for those of us trying to get accurate information. You’re correct about the blood, but maybe she arrived home at another time than what has been shared regarding the garage door opening and closing. I have nothing to prove that, but it’s something to think about. MOO

Forgive me if this has been mentioned: when NG’s pacemaker stops reporting it may be due to the internet being disconnected. Often in neighborhoods like this, in well-built older homes there is no reliable cell service without WiFi. Older folks often have landlines for this reason. No WiFi no Bluetooth etc. — I don’t know the timing but Porch Guy may have thought doorbell should have been disconnected because WiFi was but it was hardwired. (Old-school) Hence his lack of preparedness. Just my speculation.

She likely had WiFi. It was reported on this thread that she was on facebook.

It's interesting how the Sheriff described Nancy's pacemaker app disconnects from her phone at 2:28 a.m. He said "app" disconnects correct?

To disconnect a pacemaker app (such as Medtronic MyCareLink Heart, Abbott, or similar) from your phone, you should follow the specific unpairing procedures within the app to ensure data syncing stops properly. Because these apps are used for monitoring medical data, they often require deliberate steps to disconnect.

If someone deliberately disconnected her pacemaker app from her phone then someone had to have been accessing her phone to do that. No?

Discussed many, many times on this thread. @Fargo has provided personal experience.

Likely to be an alert from the attempt by the app to connect to the phone and download data. Usually happens daily. Usually in the early hours. Implication: the perp wasn’t necessarily in the house for all that time. Nancy could have been taken a bit earlier. The phone app failed to connect to the pacemaker, so she was gone by then.

I don’t understand the fascination 120 seconds for the garage.

Do you have a garage? Time it. It takes ~15 seconds for a standard residential garage door to open. That gives NG a minute and 45 seconds to walk into the garage and hit the button to close it.

A minute and 45 seconds to walk a couple car lengths into the garage is an eternity. It would take a fully able person 5 seconds. There’s no reason to think NG couldn’t shuffle into the garage within the reported time. There’s nothing “cold” or suspicious about it. MOO

I’m bothered by it. When LE released the short duration of her garage door going up/down my stomach dropped. We know hours later she’s abducted from her home. So, yeah, this stands out to me.

NG is described as having mobility issues and "couldn't walk 50 yards by herself" being dropped off and making sure she’s safely in the house seems like it would take longer. I imagine she would require some stabilization to get out of the vehicle, let alone inside. The short window might suggest she got minimal assistance. Maybe she didn't need it. But, did she really make it from the car, through the garage, and into her home that quickly, garage door up and down, drive away, and it was Good Night Nancy? To *me* it appears like a hasty departure of the driver.

Maybe the garage door didn’t open until she was already out of the car and walking. This is assuming the driver didn’t pull into her garage for her to get out. Don’t know…

You are correct he didn't state someone deliberately disconnected it I am just interested in how he described it as the "app" disconnected.
It may be how you state that Nancy just traveled a certain amount of distance away from her phone.

When I looked into it, it said to disconnect a pacemaker app often requires deliberate steps to disconnect because it is a medical app.

There might be a comma that he’s intending but that doesn’t get interpreted by media when writing it down. EG if the app throws up a notification saying “Pacemaker disconnected” when the pacemaker goes out of range, he might be meaning “The app disconnected, from her phone”/“The app from her phone disconnected”/The app disconnected from the pacemaker, from what we can see on her phone”

The investigators who swarmed an affluent desert subdivision near Tucson, Ariz., in connection with Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance on Friday night spent hours searching the home next door to David Curl, a retired lawyer who has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years.

Mr. Curl said he and his wife had been unwinding after returning home from a three-week vacation when a sheriff’s deputy knocked on their door with their next-door neighbor, an older woman who Mr. Curl says lives with her adult son.

The woman was home by herself when investigators showed up at about 6 p.m. Friday with a search warrant, Mr. Curl said in an interview on his back patio on Saturday morning. She was not allowed to be inside her home as investigators searched, Mr. Curl said, so the woman instead spent the night at Mr. Curl’s house.

Once the investigators left the neighborhood in the early hours of Saturday, Mr. Curl said he went next door with his neighbor to help her lock up her house. There, he said, he saw a copy of a federal search warrant in the living room. He said the warrant mentioned the Guthrie case.

"She had no idea what they were asking about,” Mr. Curl said of his neighbor. “She had no information about the disappearance or any idea why they were focusing on their house.”

The woman whose house was searched declined to speak on Saturday, and it remains unclear how the search is connected with Ms. Guthrie’s disappearance two weeks ago.

“She’s really distraught,” Mr. Curl said of his neighbor. She told him on Saturday afternoon that her son had been questioned and released and was now with friends.

No arrests have been made in Ms. Guthrie’s disappearance, and investigators said the flurry of activity late Friday into early Saturday at two sites not far from Ms. Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills was related to tracking down leads.

Chris Nanos, the sheriff leading the investigation, has said that law enforcement officials have gotten more than 32,000 leads since Ms. Guthrie, the mother of the “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, was taken from her home on Feb. 1.
