For the Sheriff to be able to clear the family, the Sheriff may believe that they have identified their suspects through DNA that places them at the crime scene, vehicles, cell phones etc.

All just my opinion but it seems that the only way he can clear the family is to be sure, based on DNA at the crime scene and other evidence, that they know who the suspects are.

JMHO
Maybe the DNA is pointing to one of the people they detained the other day?

When this was earlier discussed on this thread, members speculated that the perpetrator may have manually opened the garage door (bypassing the app). Alternatively, LE may know about a later open/close but chose to omit from the timeline they publicly released.
Manually....could be, makes sense. TY

Prayers for NG's family. I can't imagine the insufferable h&ll they've been living through. All day and night long, wondering.
I hope that LE's silence means they are working through leads that they can't share with the public yet. I hope they have a lot of fruitful leads.
I hope NG is found alive and well, though my faith is fading day by day.
If this is the worst case scenario and NG has passed away, please let them find her body, so the family can have closure and a proper burial.

ETA - I am so grateful they have officially cleared NG's family!

Why do you think there is a female accomplice? I have thought of this as well.
I agree, at least two people.

I think a neighbor reported a young couple (male and female) in a car his driveway, strangers in the past couple of months?

NG might come to the door if a young female was crying and pretending to be in distress?
I wondered whether a woman could be involved to care for NG, maybe some kind of. Nurse or carer?

I don’t disagree with you but it does seem like a coordinated effort with FBI, so maybe that’s how they want to roll. It seems unique. JMO.
Yes, the TMZ guy said himself that the FBI knows what he will be saying to the public and approves it. If they didn't, I don't think he would say anything.

This by far is the best theory I've heard of.
That is the most unlikely theory. This was a planned crime. Not a spur of the moment road rage type of thing. That person they raided the other day is still my top suspect though given that they have cleared the family but not those 4.

Not sure about all garage doors, but mine records opening and closings no matter how initiated including manual.

But according to TMZ, the newest message appears to come from the same individual who has repeatedly contacted the outlet in recent days.

The sender claims to know what happened to Nancy but refuses to disclose the information without financial protection, citing fear of arrest before collecting the FBI's $100,000 reward.

TMZ founder Harvey Levin addressed the sender directly in a public post Monday, urging them to come forward in a verifiable way.

"If you're worried about getting this money, and you really do have this information, send it to us," Levin wrote.

"We will forward it to the FBI, and that way there's a record that we have that you supplied this information."

For whatever reason, I hate videos, I hate watching videos, so here's a transcript:
"It is Monday morning, we have received a fourth letter from the same person who says that he knows where Nancy Guthrie is, and he wants money, uh, in return for the information. Essentially, he wants the reward. So, I have something to say to you, um, and I've already talked to the FBI about this, that, if you are not real, um, you're committing a crime, and you should know that, and this is a serious federal crime.

If you are real, this is the fourth letter you've sent--and I should tell everybody that in this letter it says, um, "I know what I saw five days ago south of the border and I was told to shut up, so I know who he is, and that was definitely Nancy with them." Uh this is the second time he has referred to more than one person involved in this. He said there is a main person and there are others, and he said it here. Um, he is saying that, um, Nancy was taken to Mexico. Now this is what he's saying.

I'm not going to vouch for him, but this is the fourth letter, we have sent them all on to the FBI. And, um, he also says one of the reasons he's worried about coming forward is he has a record, he has, uh, a burglary on his record from ten years ago, so.

I don't know if you're real or not, if you're watching this, but if you are, um, and I have told the FBI that we're going to do this, they know this, um, that, um, if you're worried about getting this money, um, and you really do have this information, send it to us--you're sending us these letters, send it to us, we will forward it to the FBI, and that way there is a record that we have that you supplied this information. If they find her and they find the kidnapper, then, at least there is evidence because we have it that you're the one who provided the information. So, this is a way for you to get that money, if this really is legitimate. Send us the information, we will pass it on to the FBI."

LE has twice questioned men who lived with an older woman (MIL, mother). I am guessing LE might also think a woman is involved - not necessarily with the abduction but in taking care of NG afterwards, wherever they took her. (If she actually survived the ordeal on 2/1.) MOO.

Maybe NG’s does also but the perpetrators did not know (so release of the timeline was when they learned). Or maybe they didn’t care. Either way, I hope it is another piece of evidence that results in their capture and conviction.

Yes but that doesn't preclude that an accident could have been the trigger for planning the crime.

There have been other cases with delayed road rage. Or maybe, if there was an accident where names and contacts are exchanged, the perp recognized the surname, and got her address.

Its as good of theory as any at this point.

Purple trailing lantana
Thanks for the information. I'll retract my comment. I wasn't familiar with the difference in varieties across different countries.

Purple trailing variety is probably Lantana montevidensis that has no thorns.

The variety I'm familiar with is Lantana Camara which has tiny thorns and spreads so wildly here that it's a real problem.

I hope she throws her "source" under the bus and they are revealed.
I do not think her source has any legal culpability. Internal sanctions or firing if they are LE/ govt yes, but court of law problems no.
The source is not out blabbing on a podcast that the BIL is the prime suspect in basically all caps and then later saying, like it’s an afterthought, but of course nothing definitive yet….
Ashley Banfield seemingly got played or embellished or out right lied.
🤥
If I am the Guthrie fam suing her would be my pleasure.

Nobody who wants to continue in journalism would ever do this. Regardless of the validity of the information given by a source, the only reason people become sources for journalists is because they're assured of anonymity. If she burns her source, she'll never get another.
