Ummmm, this was so preventable if the perp had never done it in the first place! Your logic as stated above is just another way of saying it's an individual's responsibility to protect oneself instead of society putting the blame where it belongs -- on the perpetrator of crime! That is a very callous comment and blames the victim unfortunately.
MOO
Same with the “she should have had a gun” comments. How can anyone be so sure that an 84yo with limited mobility (and possibly hearing aids- I’ve read that but don’t know if that’s true) could have prevented this if only she had a gun on her nightstand and woke up with enough time to even know what was happening? No disrespect to anyone her age and their capabilities but I keep a gun nearby and know how to use it but can’t be totally confident I’d be unharmed in this situation.

I’m okay with the lab. They sound more than capable. It appears that LE is in recovery mode and solving this is the end goal. Kidnapping/ransom/releasing Nancy no longer seems to be on the table, I think. Would drones be helpful if she was outdoors? So far we have not heard what was found inside the house. That may be key to the investigation and where it stands today.

Are there any updates about the white van in the neighborhood? I’d thought it was identified but I googled it and don’t see that it was. So much stuff to wade through. Thanks!

None that I've heard.

All fair points but let's not kid ourselves with the realistic assessment here. She was an easy mark in very favorable environment.

Tell a bad guy there is an 84 year-old medically compromised woman w/ hearing aides living alone in a large house, set back, secluded, no neighbors sight-lines, minimal security, no dog, in a spaced out neighborhood with a low light ordinance that's pitch dark at night and no traffic cams. Oh, and her daughter is a multi millionaire. Well, that's an opportunity.

Agreed. I definitely don't feel there is a lot a typical elderly person can do to prevent a determined assailant. I have done all I can to avoid being helpless in such a situation but that doesn't mean I would win.

I agree this no longer feels like a rescue. I has just been too long and nothing really actionable has come out of the investigation. That must be a ghastly thing for her family to come to grips with.

If this was the case wouldn't he be reaching out to SG? Capturing her mom is one thing but his desire and obsession with SG is so strong. SG being quiet and private in this matter. She hasn't been on the today show in weeks. So he can't invite SG into is daily life. Maybe he rewatches her instagram videos. This would only fuel his obsession for so long- he'd need more. So maybe he sends letters. But going silent after kidnapping her mom wouldn't match this MO.

JMO
THIS IS PRECISELY WHY MY STALKER ACTED. SG WAS OUT OF WORK FOR SOME TIME DUE TO THROAT SURGERY. He WAS DEPRIVED OF HIS DAILY CONTACT. His safe, intimate space for 2 hours daily was gone. Then she was scheduled to go to Milan for the Olympics for a couple of weeks. Very disruptive to my delusional, OCD stalker. He probably never sent letters. WAYYYY too timid and insecure for that. Perhaps an occasional "you looked great today" or "loved your broadcast about the Easter bunny". BRIEF, COMMENTS ON INSTAGRAM, FOR EXAMPLE. He didn't HAVE to send letters. He was convinced they were communicating with each other on a higher plane.

Who said he went silent after the kidnapping? We simply don't know if he was the ransom writer or not. We don't know if he left a ransom note at the scene that hasnt been revealed to us. We don't know if he has contacted SG in some manner or other all during the last 3+ weeks. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU HAVENT HEARD FROM LE. All of this IMO and MOO.

Wondering:
Is it an Ozark Trail?
Where exactly it was found?
And if it is close to NG's home--how did LE miss it?
Right on!

the idea that a gun would have helped NG or others to fight an intruder is an erroneous assumption, I have followed so many cases where the people murdered had a gun and sometimes many many guns which didn't save them, Chris Rhoden had a gun safe full, the Anderson family murders the father of the family had a gun by his bedside, when an intruder breaks in the reality is often very different from how you imagine it would happen

Well..id like to think there is actually something to go on other than it's a backpack , but it just seems a circus right now, so unless they say it's actually of interest, I'm not even wasting my time. Like the twenty million gloves, or the blue shirt.

Is Manhunter your favorite movie?

I think it's one of Michael Mann's best. Hated the Red Dragon remake, though it had an impressive cast it did not have the soul and atmosphere of the 1986 original even though many say RD follows Thomas Harris' novel stricter.

Probably not related to this case, but how does one "lose" a full backpack,or why would one ditch it?jmo

Bags get stolen, riffled through for valuables, and then discarded.
