At the same time, they seem to think the perp was there on Jan 11th, I wonder how they would know that if not from that 'backpackless' image?

I think the public assumes that because LE was asking neighbors for video from that date but there was also a forced burglary reported just 5 minutes South from Nancy on that same date.

I swear Walmart needs a dedicated aisle and a dedicated camera, live fed to LE.

There are many adjacent products that would work, from plastic mattress and furniture covers of all sizes, to plastic sheathing, drop cloths, and bags, etc. I've bought mattress bags that look eerily like body bags.

It may have not been a literal body bag, but the backpack "kit" may have included items of that nature (think the ol' TV trope; zip ties, duct tape, chloroform, tarp etc.)

I've used everything from tarps and old plastic shower curtains to drag and bag game during hunting and transporting it home.

For the neighbors reporting their dog barking and a camera outage around the time as the intruder was at Nancy Guthrie’s house:

it appears they may have a camera that uses hardwiring (Ethernet cable), in which case a wifi jammer wouldn’t work.

I apologize if I missed something, but why are we thinking he kept the light in his mouth while talking to NG? It seems it would be simple enough to stick it in his pocket, as well as dangerous to talk with that thing in his mouth.

Media is driven by public interest and that hasn't really waned. <modsnip> Media never left OJ, and they wouldn't have left this one either had they not essentially been intimidated by new ordinances and similar innuendo. Media outlets were outwardly encouraged to leave by law enforcement, and it's really no secret how and when it occurred. And that is just after the second raid.

I'm also deeply interested in the NG case and spend as much time as I can following it. But I'm also trying to follow global current events which impact not only our family but also millions of people. I only have so much time in the day to follow the news. That being said, I really hope the media doesn't give up on the NG story; I don't think they have. I agree that the ordinances for the media to leave weren't helpful, but I also think that the lack of clear progress (at the surface level view) probably has something to do the slowdown in reporting.

I believe once there's a break in the case that the widespread media will be all over it again.

All this security talk makes me think fondly of the last time I had a security system. ADT. It let off the most blood curdling alarm and was connected to the police department. We had several false alarms and one break-in the middle of the day while we were home. She was caught by my 5 year old son’s description and went on trial for murdering an old lady nearby. When I see all the Nest and Ring posts on Nextdoor of robbed homes and thief photos I wonder if they ever deter crime. These days I just have a dog and husband.
