Has there been any mention to the Jury the reason before or during the trial to explain the absence of the victim's family? Has anyone been there for him, any friends, etc?

Apparently, they are in India and cannot come over here at this time. Don't know why -- finances, perhaps. I hope they can catch this on live stream, if they want to do that...

After having watched all of Friday's testimony and lack of testimony from the defense. I know the defense doesn't have to provide any. I know the defense tried to prove that Shanita lied on the stand or in her prior statements. I think they failed big time. imo

So what kind of believable closing will the defense put on? Any idea's?

I think you just listed the gist of their closing, Jewels! The DT is gonna say Shanita lied up on the stand -- highlighting how she said she didn't throw out one of the .25 cal parts in the Carson murder -- so you can't believe what she says, etc., etc., but like you, I think they failed.

They might try to throw Phillip Maybrey under the bus with his possibly being in on the robbery/killing of Mahato, saying that now we don't know who really did the shooting -- but it shouldn't matter, IMO, because each would be just as guilty as the other -- IDK, that might not be so smart, considering PM's veracity on the stand during this trial. Shanita's testimony is crucial, IMO, but they still have to deal with LAL's having some of Mahato's possessions. But the DT know that they only have to convince one juror... B.u.t., they know they don't really have diddly, but maybe they can sit down when they're done, knowing they gave it their best shot.

And I'll say it again, LAL has been more engaged in this trial, I think, than he was during the Carson trial, but I don't think he gives a flip -- and why should he? He's already in there for the rest of his life... thankfully... He still needs to do the time for this crime too, to give Abijit Mahato and his family their share of justice, however lacking it will be. Grrrr.

This has been quite a trip down a tuff road in a tuff neighborhood. How lucky we all are.

Yes Borndem the Defense gave it their best with what they had to work with. They will close with Shanita lieing as their main focus.

I look at it this way no matter if LAL is already serving a life sentence, I feel like he is being tried for the first time.

This is such a waste of resources. Why didn't he just plead guilty since there is no defense? Did he just want some time out of prison? Does he like the attention? He doesn't appear to give a flip.

I wonder who the guy is sitting next to (I presume) Mrs. L.

I think you are on the right track Boodles. He probably likes the attention. And the crowd he hung out with can watch and perhaps be impressed with his callous indifference to killing a human being. I imagine prison is very monotonous so why not break it up with a trail.
