Oh my, this is heartbreaking. Link to letter dated June 30, 2014 to Dornfried from Mahato's parents, asking for the jurors to deliver punishment. Our justice system failed completely. My heart aches for this family.

This letter, from Sitaram Mahato and Arati Mahato, was sent to the Durham County Assistant District Attorney's Office prior to Laurence Lovette's acquittal on July 30, 2014, and provided to WRAL-TV and WRAL.com by the family's liaison to prosecutors. Below is the unedited letter in its entirety.

Pep Talk......
No matter how it looks, this is not a victory......So, the defense managed to confuse the Jury and cast doubt on their client's involvement, so what? Yes, it would have been great to add on another life sentence, and, yes, it would have been even greater to get justice for Abhijit and his family, but this doesn't mean LL is any less guilty or any less a cold blooded killer.

They can go after him any time they wish, of course, but judging by the verdict we saw today, it would be a tuff road, especially since PM was around 16 years old at the time and apparently did not fire the killing shot. The ADA's would know better how to handle it, but if the defense were allowed to offer that the killer was found NG, that could also be an influence, IMO. I'm betting they won't charge him.

IMO, we may not have seen the last of him, however.
